3 From the Vicar s Desk Dear Immanuel Family, Greetings in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have entered the month of February Arrival of the month February, for a Marthomite coming from India, arises the nostalgic memories of the great Maramon Convention conducted by the Mar Thoma Church(MTEA) on the sand bed of the bank of river Pampa. This is the serene riverbank of revival, renewal and rededication. This riverbank has to say a great history of Revival which contributed a lot in the growth of the Mar Thoma Community. Wherever we are placed, we share the spirit of that revival. Being an Eastern Reformed Church, revival is, and has to be a constant process in our faith journey. The Mar Thoma church grew in its own identity and unique nature as a blend of Tradition and Modernity, Liturgical Worship and Evangelical Outlook, Biblical emphasis in teachings, etc. The revival movement in Kerala led by great leaders like Sadhu Kochukunju Upadeshi and others. This revival movement in addition to the reformation made us a Missionary Church rather than a close ended community limited to a small geographic area. Now God has placed us in a distinct settings and surroundings to be His witnesses. In our faith journey we may be now seeing stagnant waters of institutionalization, ritualism and traditionalism. Let us not forget that we are called to be a reformed church being constantly revived and renewed. We live amidst the forces of worldliness, relative affluence, consumerism, greed, dissatisfaction so many realities. Let not our spirit of revival go down. Revival is not just loud prayers and singing, it is an experience of pouring the spirit new life in all our activities. Let us light up the light again and let it shine upon the nations. Let that spirit be seen in our corporate worship, in our outreach programs, in our organizations, prayer groups and all that we do as a church. May God Bless us all. Yours in Christ Unnithanachen 3

14 14 LENT Church is observing fifty day lent starting February 26th. During the lenten season, we engage in earnest effort to find out and own promises for future life through faith oriented meditations. The lent confronts each of us with a Heart- Searching dilemma. The lenten dilemma is a forced choice between embarrassingly difficult alternatives. Nevertheless we cannot evade, the centrality of the Cross and it s message of altruistic love during the Lenten season. The Cross gives us a new orientation to our perspective, to see the word and its realities in the divine wisdom. St. Paul, those he has so much to boast on material things surrender to the Cross and powerfully says, I will boast only on the Cross of Jesus Christ. This boasting demands a new life style, the way of the Crosswhere service, suffering and sacrifice are the hallmark.
