1 Page 1 August 2018 T r i n i t y L u t h e r a n C h u r c h THE AMBASSADOR Special points of interest: Church Picnic August 2pm Jessica Kjos Baby Shower August Council Meeting August Blessing of the Backpacks August 19 LEAD (Living Everyday As Disciples) is a brief summer devotion sent daily to my . The summer series will last for 30 days and will end in about two weeks. At the start we commit to become engaged with each day. This day is focused on PLANTS and goes as follows: I intend to spend this day with all the curiosity and imagination that God gave me. Today I will notice all the plants from moss in the sidewalk to trees and grass and flowers. I will notice differences and similarities. I will be grateful for the food sources and for the oxygen released from them. I will delight in the shapes and colors and sizes. I intend to spend this day with God. Matthew 6:28b-29 Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. I intend to share my joy. How will I share this day? Plant a flower? Plant a tree? Visit a nursery, or forest? Tell about the day to an elderly friend? Get their stories? Share on Facebook? INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Worship, Music & Spe- 2 Youth 3 Upcoming Events 4 Upcoming Events 5 Thank Yous 5 MT Synod Gathering 6 Parish Nurse 7 This has been a wonderful way to be mindful and engaged with the variety of gifts the Lord provides me. However, you do not need a special or text as a reminder to be observant. For me, the is a refreshing addition to morning and evening devotions. But the alternatives are endless You could choose a joy the night before and commit to observe and consider the value of this gift from God during the next day. God is everywhere and in everything; thus, centering on only one particular thought each day has been a simple way for my heart, body and mind to pause, remember and praise the Creator. With close to four weeks remaining in the month of August, may you be LEAD to care for your body, mind and heart; and spend daily time exploring God s creativity and colorful imagination one gift at a time. Yours in Christ, Pastor Betty Lou

5 Page 5 Upcoming Events I Believe I believe in sunshine; But I cannot clasp its ray. I cannot capture ocean tides; Just watch them day by day. I believe in thinking; Yet no brick can think a thought. I believe in loving; Though love can t be boxed or bought. I believe in gifts from God Diverse, yet clear and thus: I believe God s Love enfolds, Sustains, and blesses us! - Peggy Ferrell, Poems and Prayers WELCA Thank you - It is such a blessing to be able to call the Lutheran Church Women for help and know you are all so willing to do whatever you can. So that you know how much your service is appreciated, we wanted to share this thank you note from the Kesler Family. To all the Lutheran Woman that donated food to Betty s funeral reception, we thank you! There were so many comments on all the wonderful cookies and bars. All were so yummy it was hard to just eat a couple. Betty did have a sweet tooth so she would have appreciated all the desserts but more importantly, the love and effort put into them. We will certainly miss Betty s wit and sense of humor. Keep her in mind when you hear a good joke and pass it on. We all need a good laugh now and then. Again we all thank you for your contribution and for your friendship to our Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend. The Keslers

7 Page 7 Essential Oils Essential oils are distilled by steam or water from plants or plants parts, i.e. seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, blooms, fruit. The distilled product is highly concentrated with a characteristic fragrance from the plant and healing properties or other characterisits ascribed to the plant. The plant oils are part plant's protective infrastructure and pollination mechanism. Essential oils have a long history in medicinal practice. Modern trends leaning towards holistic wellness have revived the appeal of essential oils for health and wellness. If you are going to use essential oils, there is information you need to know. Quality essential oils will be sold in an amber brown or cobalt blue glass bottle. Essential oils will break down plastic bottles. Essential oils are light sensitive and will break down when exposed to light. Buy pure oils that are organic and responsibly sourced. Ask questions about the sourcing of the oil and the testing the company completes to verify the oil. The essential oil should be labeled with a common name of the source plant and the Latin name of the plant. Know the Latin name of the plant source of the oil for which you are shopping. There is no organization regulating the quality or purity of essential oils. Beware of oils with labels that indicate such. Do your own research prior to buying an essential oil. There is a wealth of information, both good and not so good, in print and online. Some essential oils are for aroma therapy and not for therapeutic use. To be therapeutic an essential oil must be completely free of anything but the originally distilled oil. Aromatherapy oils are not 100% pure. A variety of reputable companies sell essential oils - gift shops, small and large retailers, online, multilevel marketers. Shop around, ask trusted friends. Check the expiration dates on the oils you buy as you will want 2-3 years out from the time of purchase. If you are using an essential oil product it is important that you tell your medical practitioner what you are using and why. Drug interactions occur between essential oils and conventional medicines. Discuss with your practitioner or pharmacist if you have questions. Some essential oils are not safe to be used during pregnancy and some are not safe to be used on children. To your good health, Ardene Zion, RN
