Breakfast Jan 13 after worship Annual Meeting Jan 27th after worship with potluck to follow I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 1:4 Glenn and I give thanks on this day for your warm and tender expression of care and love for us. We received too many offers to count for a place to stay, meals, use of cars, and whatever came to mind that would make our remaining days homey. The parsonage is a great home and provided exactly what we needed to be warm, take showers and dine. Thank you for your generous offers and big hearts! While we reflected over the many blessings, we counted too many to list at this time. Please know you were in each of them in one way or another. You taught us so much about Montana life from Chinooks to bear spray, huckleberries and stepping into the Rocky Mountains and Teton Passes. Now we, that is Glenn and I and also you, step out to embrace something new and challenging...a new year and a new beginning. God s work for Trinity, the ELCA, Choteau and beyond is to share the love and light of Christmas. And, there is something waiting for us to step out and into. Wherever each of us is, may our hearts continue to be opened and willing to continue the Lord s work of changing the world with love. You are a blessing! Pastor Betty Lou and Glenn

4 PAGE 4 Upcoming Events First of all- Thank you to Myrna for the wonderful musicians that she lined up for the Advent Recitals. Thank you to all that brought soup and bread. The kitchen crew was amazing as usual. The soup and bread is a big part of the success but it goes beyond that as there is always those who get things ready prior to serving and who also do the cleanup work. There is one individual who has always arrived early to help set up, I would like to acknowledge Pastor Betty Lou. This happens not only at Advent time, but also at Lent. This past Friday was a good example of that when she arrived and said that she had 40 minutes. It isn t as if she had anything to do that day. No, they were only loading out their things and she was giving a ride to the recital as well as singing during the recital. Several weeks ago I mentioned that a special lady was leaving town and taking her recipes with her-thanks for all of the wonderful soups, Pastor! And then there was last weekend-in most instances I won t mention names simply for the reason that I might miss someone. Preface it by saying that I don t believe that it takes a village. I believe that it takes Trinity Lutheran Church. Saturday several ladies came to help set up the basement for our pot luck. On Sunday, there was again lots of help-in many cases, the same people. I would like to acknowledge a few people-barb Arensmeyer for the decorations and the special table, Caroline Roeder for the wonderful banner, the Roeders for the lamb, the Campbells and Lees for the meat which was cooked by Brad Asselstine and to Betty Hill for the wonderful rolls! The food was WONDERFUL! Incidentally, some time that morning I met Pastor who wanted to know if there was anything that she could do to help. A big shout out to all of those of you that helped in any manner-we couldn t have done it without you. Sincerely, On Behalf of All Peoples of Trinity Lutheran, Donna Dyrdahl...to all who donated items for the Teton Food Bank....to all who made the Advent Recitals a success. Special thanks to: Sandie Hodgskiss and her many friends, the Asselstines, and Darla Armstrong Haller with her family for sharing your wonderful talents with us....to the Property Committee for all your hard work at keeping the church and property maintained and running great....to our wonderful Musicians; Darlene Depner, Joan Scott & Myrna Paulus for all your hard work and wonderful talent you share with us....to Tracie Roeder for all of her time and talent directing the kids and adults to present a wonderful Christmas Program.

7 Page 7 Bacteria vs. Viruses Bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that thrive in many environments. Many bacteria are harmless, and aid the human body by digesting food, regulating GI function, destroy disease causing microbes, fight cancer cells and provide essential nutrients. Harmful bacteria cause bacterial infections. Viruses are smaller than bacteria and require living hosts, people, plants or animals, to multiply. A virus enters the body, invades specific cells and takes over the cell machinery, redirects it produce the virus and causes illness. Viral diseases: Chickenpox, common colds, AIDS. Some illnesses may be either viral or bacterial including pneumonia, meningitis, diarrhea. Bacterial and viral infections are essentially spread in the same ways. Airborne transmission (indirect contact): Coughing, sneezing, laughing and close personal contact with another person are part of the airborne transmission route. The discharged virus or bacteria remain suspended in the air on dust particles, respiratory droplets or water droplets. To illustrate: a single human sneeze creates a large potentially infectious mist of viruses or bacteria that exits the body at 10 miles per hour. Direct contact: Direct contact transmission occurs when there is physical contact between an infected person and a susceptible person. Direct contact may be via direct physical contact with blood or body fluids (touching, kissing, sexual contact, contact with oral secretions, contact with body lesions). Vector-borne diseases: These human illnesses are caused by parasites, viruses and bacteria that are transmitted by mosquitoes, sandflies, ticks, mites, lice, snails, etc. Lyme disease, West Nile virus and malaria are vector borne diseases. Handwashing is the most effective first line of defense. Regular soap used with warm running water, a vigorous 20 second scrub, a thorough rinse and drying hands thoroughly with a clean towel or air dryer. A good handwashing is voided if you touch the faucet handles with your clean hands. Use a clean dry barrier - i.e. a paper towel. Antibacterial soap is no more effective than a regular soap. Beyond the common cold, an antibiotic may be required to cure a bacterial infection. It is important for your healthcare provider to determine if an illness is bacterial or viral and if an antibiotic required or is symptom relief enough. Bacteria are very adaptable, overuse of antibiotics has created many antibiotic-resistant strains. Viral diseases are not helped by antibiotics. Vaccines have significantly reduced viral diseases: polio, measles and chickenpox. Recently advances in preventive medicine include vaccines for influenza, some hepatitis strains and HPV. Antiviral medications have been found effective for herpes simplex (cold sores), HIV and influenza. However, drug-resistant viruses are being identified. To your good health, Ardene Zion
