The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone. We pray You to open our hearts by Your Holy Spirit, that through the preaching of Your Word we may be taught to repent of our sins, to believe on Jesus in life and death, and to grow day by day in grace and holiness. 4 THE CONFESSION OF SIN P: Let us confess our sins to God and pray: We poor sinners confess to You, O God, not only that we have been conceived and born in sin, but also that throughout life we have often and in many ways offended You, our Lord and Maker, in thought, word and deed, so that You could with perfect justice reject and condemn us for all eternity. Therefore we come before You with sorrow of heart, in dread and terror of Your holy justice and of everlasting death. Our sins are a grievous foe, which we should hate in every way as long as we live. O merciful God, You still grant us in this hour to be reminded of Your fatherly goodness. According to the promise of Your Word we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy and implore You, dearest Father, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Your onlybegotten Son, our Brother, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised again for our justification: Forgive us all our sins through faith, which the Holy Spirit increases in our hearts to full assurance. C: We therefore pray You, O Lord, through Your servant to declare to us the forgiveness of all our sins. We poor sinners are willing to forgive all who have offended against us. Grant that our worship on earth may always be pleasing to You, and in the life to come give us the fulfillment of what You have promised; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Instead, be filled with the Spirit 19 by speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (singing and making music with your hearts to the Lord), 20 by always giving thanks for everything to God the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. THE HOLY GOSPEL JOHN 6:51-58 P: The Holy Gospel for the 13 th Sunday after Pentecost is written in the 6 th chapter of the Gospel according to St. John, beginning at the 51 st verse. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. 52 At that, the Jews argued among themselves, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 So Jesus said to them, Amen, Amen, I tell you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves. 54 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the Last Day. 55 For my flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink. 56 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like your fathers ate and died. 17 Fall Service Schedule Next Sunday we return to our fall worship schedule of two services on Sundays, at 8:30 & 10:45am. Our Wednesday evening services at 6:30pm will continue through September 5 th. All Ages Summer Bible Study Next Sunday is the last day for the All Ages Summer Bible Study and it will be held at 10:00 AM, between the worship services. Jesus Lambs at Peace Preschool will hold its annual Back-To-School Picnic & Registration on Tuesday, August 21, 6-8 p.m. If you are able to volunteer that evening and/or bring a salad, dessert, potato chips, pickles, ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, please sign the sheet in the entry way or call Joslyn at or at joslynmoldstad@gmail.com. Members - The new church pictorial directory is ready to be picked up! Please stop by the office and get your copy. Green Thumb Needed - The Board for Maintenance is looking for individuals in the congregation who would be willing to help care for landscaping around church. This would include weeding, pruning, watering, and in general caring for the shrubbery around the church during the summer and early fall. Help Build a Bunk - To help with the needs to Mary Puol and her family we are gathering members to build a bunk bed for her two boys. We are looking for a handful of people to measure, cut, sand, and stain. If you would like to help, meet at church at 5:30pm next Thursday, August 23rd. We also are in need of sanders and a miter saw for this project. Please contact Pastor Moldstad if you are willing to help or need more information, pastormoldstad@gmail.com. Adult Choir will begin Wednesday, September 5 th, and will be directed by Eric Harstad. All singers are welcome - from new to experienced, bass to soprano, and everyone in between! We welcome all of our children, ages PreK - 8 th grade, to attend our Sunday School class. We welcome our high schoolers to attend CROSSED, our youth Bible Study. We welcome our adults to attend our Adult Bible Class in the sanctuary. This fall Pastor Hartwig will be leading the adult class through the Gospel of John. 17

18 Calling All Artists - We are looking to commission a customized art piece for Peace Lutheran Church of North Mankato. The Church Council and Furnishings Committee would like to invite any artist wanting to create a two-dimensional art piece for our new building s entry. We are looking for an image to represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We would like Jesus to be the focal point. Some ideas are possibly an artistic representation of Jesus Baptism. Also, because we are Peace, we would like the image to represent the feeling of Peace in Jesus as well. Cobalt Blue is present in our original logo, but not a necessity to have present in the image. The size we are looking for is: 8ft Wide x 6ft High The image will be low and fill a wall right before you enter our sanctuary, the image can be seen up close, but also can be seen clear across the building as a focal point. We would maintain rights to print for t-shirts/web/promotional use for outreach purposes for the congregation. We are giving a scholarship of $2000 to the winning artist. Along with $250 towards supplies. Renderings are due August 30 th, final art piece would be due October 30 th. If you are unable to submit your rendering by August 30 th, please contact Melissa. Corn Hole & Chili Dog Family Night - Your Help Requested - Our next family night event will take place on Friday Sept. 14 th, at 6 p.m. Our main activity that night will be a corn hole tournament. Here s where we need your help. We are in need of regulation size or near regulation size cornhole sets. They would just be needed the night of the event and would be returned promptly. CROSSED Youth Event - Theatre Physics on Sept. 23rd, 1 to 4pm - Three high school youth groups from our local churches are gathering at BLC to take in this year s Theatre Physics performance on Sunday, Sept. 23 rd. 19 Decorators Needed - Do you like decorating? If so we need your help! Every year we like to put up special decorations for Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. We are looking for individuals who would be willing to oversee the put up and take down of these decorations. Proclaim the Wonders God Has Done: A sermon preached at the 1918 reorganizing convention of the ELS reminded the faithful few that their purpose was to extend God s kingdom and they should not weary in this work. Since its reorganization in 1918, the ELS has participated in foreign mission work in fifteen nations. Working through the synods of the Synodical Conference, early missionaries served in China, India and Nigeria. 19

MVL Food Service Assistant Opening - Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School has a part-time position open in the food service at MVL. This position is for about 6 to 6 1/2 hours per day during the school year. Tasks include food preparation and service, washing dishes and clean up. Director of Mission Advancement Position Open at MVL - Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School is looking for a male member of a ELS/WELS church to serve as a full time Director of Mission Advancement.
