The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone. BEFORE WORSHIP As you prepare to worship your Lord today, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer before the service. Grant them the wisdom to know the things that please You and the grace and power always to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Cursed is anyone who trusts in mankind, who seeks his strength from human flesh, and who turns his heart away from the LORD. 6 He will be like a juniper bush in the wasteland. He will not see good things when they come. He lives in a dry place in the wilderness, in a salty land where no one lives. 7 But blessed is anyone who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by water. It sends out its roots to the stream. It does not fear the heat when it comes. Its leaves will remain green. It is not concerned about a time of drought. It does not stop producing fruit. These people came to listen to him and to be healed of their diseases. 18 Those who were troubled by unclean spirits were also cured. 19 The whole crowd kept trying to touch him, because power was going out from him and healing them all. 20 He lifted up his eyes to his disciples and said: Blessed are you who are poor, because yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, because you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, because you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you whenever people hate you, and whenever they exclude and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy because of this: Your reward is great in heaven! The fact is, their fathers constantly did the same things to the prophets. 24 But woe to you who are rich, because you are receiving your comfort now. 25 Woe to you who are well fed now, because you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, because you will be mourning and weeping. 26 Woe to you when all people speak well of you, because that is how their fathers constantly treated the false prophets. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. 13 THE PRAYER OF THE CHURCH P: Everlasting and merciful God, we beseech You in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: C: To have mercy upon us and to hear our prayer. P: Look in mercy upon Your Church. Protect it and sanctify it by Your truth. May Your Word be taught in its purity and Your Sacraments be rightly administered. Grant unto Your Church faithful pastors who shall declare Your truth with power and shall live according to Your will. Send forth laborers into Your harvest and open the door of faith unto all unbelievers and unto the people of Israel. In mercy remember the enemies of Your Church and grant to them repentance unto life. C: O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, hear us in the truth of Your salvation. P: Let Your protecting hand be over our country and over all who travel. Prosper what is good among us and bring to naught every evil counsel and purpose. Protect and bless Your servants, the President of the United States, the Governor of this state, our judges and magistrates and all in authority. Relieve and comfort the sick and the sorrowful (especially our brother/sister who is ill/grieving). Graciously help those who are assaulted by the devil and who are in peril of death. Be the strength of those who are suffering for the sake of Christ s holy name. Grant that we may live together in peace and prosperity. Bestow upon us good and seasonable weather; and bless us with upright Christian counsel in all that we undertake. C: O Lord, be with all in trouble. Hear their prayers to the honor of Your Name. P: We especially commend to Your care and keeping this Your congregation which You have bought with a great price. Keep from us all offenses and bind us together in the unity of Your holy love. Grant that the little ones who are baptized in Your name may be brought up in Your fear. At Your table give to those who there commune with You peace and life everlasting. C: Let all rejoice who trust in You; let them shout for joy because You defend them. P: Be merciful, O God, to all, according to Your great love in Christ Jesus, our Lord. We will have a 10 a.m. performance and a 2 p.m. performance. There are a few items we are in need of. We need a bench, 3 newspaper bags, a small wagon, two small teddy bears, and a small child s thermos. We could use 3 old shirts (size small) and six child s sized baseball caps. If you could help us with any of these, please label them and leave in the preschool room or office. If you have questions, call and thanks for your help. (We will return everything.) Hoppe: Her Life and Hymnody. Ms. Urtel has written a book about the life of the little-known but most prolific hymnwriter of the WELS. She will be assisted by Prof. Dennis Marzolf on piano. Come prepared to sing and learn about a side of Lutheran hymnody you've never seen before! In Silber Hall (YFAC 101). - part of the In Depth series. Wed., Feb. 27 at 7 pm in Trinity Chapel - The Bethany Lutheran College Concert Band performs on tour in both February and March. Their program features a variety of selections that will entertain and educate audiences of all ages. Included are several beautiful, lyrical tunes: Be Thou My Vision, Salvation Is Created, and Nostalgia, while other selections will be both powerful and exciting: John Philip Sousa s The Thunderer, Hans Zimmer s Pirates of The Caribbean: At World s End, and John Powell s How to Train Your Dragon. The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill donation will be received to help offset tour expenses. 18

19 Moms supporting Moms in raising godly children Moms On a Mission Spring Schedule: The Peace/Mt. Olive Moms On a Mission (M.O.M.s) bible study will resume in February and will meet through the month of April. Morning and evening groups will be studying different curriculums this session. Please see the table below for specifics. New and returning mothers, please register by ing the appropriate contact so we can have materials prepared for you! New mothers welcome to join any study at any time. Morning M.O.M.s Study: When: Thursdays, 8:30-10am (can drop children off in childcare at 8:15), beginning Feb. 7 Where: Peace Lutheran Church, North Mankato Study: Morning study will resume its study of the book, Boundaries, by Cloud and Townsend. Pastor Hartwig will join at the end of the study each week to provide biblical principles, answer questions, and give encouragement. Amanda Madson, and members of her family, wish to thank the members of Peace congregation for all the kindnesses shown our family during Amanda s illness: The food that has been brought in, the hours that have been spent to watch over her, the little visits, the greeting cards and written messages, the pastoral care provided by our two faithful pastors. And all of these kindnesses were topped off when about a dozen of our church choir members gathered around Amanda s bed on Wednesday evening and sang hymns for nearly an hour. What a treat that was! In 1 Peter 2 it says: Dear Friends...live such good lives... that they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us. To all of you, Amanda and members of her family say: THANK YOU!
