Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church! It is good to have you join our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the First Sunday of Lent. May our time together and our prayerful participation in the Church s Liturgy lift our spirit and strengthen our faith. I hope these beginning days of Lent have been fruitful!! Traditionally, I give up something for Lent. Sometimes I avoid candy or ice cream or watch less TV. This year I am working on giving up Coca-Cola, a daily habit of mine. The problem with avoiding a favorite treat is the increased temptation that automatically kicks in as you attempt to do without. So, please don t offer me any Coca-Colas this Lent!! Temptations in all areas of life are part of the human experience. We are tempted to sleep in on these cold mornings, eat a little too much, take that extra alcoholic beverage and explore inappropriate websites. None of us escape the experience of temptation. Sin is not in the temptation. Sin is in our failure to resist sinful temptation. In today s Gospel, Jesus is tempted by the devil. Being deceptive, the devil s temptations seem attractive. Bread for someone who has fasted seems like something good. Power and Glory are intriguing! The devil is trying to divert Jesus from his Mission! The devil tempts Jesus to misuse his power! Jesus resists the temptation! He remains faithful to his mission! We are to see Jesus as a model for resisting temptation in our lives. Name your temptations! Be ever conscious where temptations challenge your discipleship and call to faithfulness. Pray in this gathering for the grace to avoid what leads us away from God. Pray for the grace to resist life s sinful temptations. Be well! God bless, Fr. McKee L E N T Prayer ~ Fasting Almsgiving

ROLL AWAY THE STONES... At the end of Lent we celebrate Jesus rolling away the stone of death; but what about the stones we carry around: stones of sorrow, resentment, fear, confusion, loss, anxiety, etc. how can Jesus roll those stones away? Take time this Lent to allow God to touch you so that on Easter, not only Jesus stone, but your stones will be rolled away as well.
