Contact: Drew Hilbinger: ( ) I Grand Knight's Corner Brothers, t was awesome to see so many of you come out an support our new membership drive at St. Francis Xavier. Your enthusiasm for the Knights carried over to parishioners who filled out seven interest cards. With a little luck and perserverance our efforts should translate into more the a few new members. council, and of course would eventually move onto to a higher calling in the priesthood. Next, I hope that we can duplicate our effort at Christ The King Church in Towson on March 17th, and then at Immaculate Conception, Nativity and St. Josephs (dates not yet established). Please join me in inviting out Catholic brothers to become one of us, but don t wait for our parish membership drives, if you meet someone that you think will make a good knight, please get his name, number and e mail address, and we ll follow up with him. Both Fr. Frank Brauer and Msgr. Thomas J. Donellan and the St. Francis Xavier parishioners were very welcoming to us, and it was great to hear Msgr. Donellan story Glenn Thuman about his involvement in the Grand Knight Knights of Columbus. Being called to service, Msgr. Donellan searched for avenues to fulfill his calling but there was only one option on his college campus, and it was the Knights of Columbus. Eventually, Msgr. 4 The 4011 News Pag e 4 By Msgr. John J. Fitzgerald T Dear Fellow Knights: he Supreme Knight, in response to Pope Benedict XVI s call for the Catholic Church to observe A Year of Faith, has produced a series of booklets (about 40 pages each) on The New Evangelization. You might think that is a strange term since spreading the Good News is a mandate for all followers of Jesus Christ from the very lips of Jesus Himself. So what is the New in New Evangelization all about? Guess what? I am not going to tell you in this column! However, I am making available to Fr. O Neill Council Knights a copy of What Is the New Evangelization?, the first booklet of T Ask eligible men to join oday, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works in the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard working members. We also recognize that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to increase their numbers. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights are more visible than normal, during and after Masses and at Chaplain's Counsel the series. It is published by the Supreme Council s Catholic Information Service in New Haven, Connecticut. Check out Supreme s Website: for other booklets in this series as well as the many other series of booklets and books published by CIS. Reading The New Evangelization would be a wonderful and life changing spiritual practice for Lent. Msgr. John L. FitzGerald, Ph.D. Fr. O Neill Council Chaplain, Deputy State Chaplain P.S. Here is a hint about the topics in the booklet. Contents Fraternal Benefits special events. We must remember to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order. During the rest of the year, we often forget to ask men to join our ranks and bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. Chances are that the only reason he hasn t joined already is because no one asked him. When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often an interesting selling point to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members come into the Knighthood simply to be able to buy coverage for their family. Soon after, they realize the good We have come to believe in God s love... 1 A World Longing for Love and Joy 2 Discovering God s Love Amid Suffering 3 A message of Hope for the Modern World Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel 11 Why Do We Need a New Evangelization? 12 Why New? 13 The Source of Evangelization Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies...? 23 Who Evangelizes? 26 The Content of the New Evangelization 30 The Method of Evangelization 32 Conclusion: The Grain of Wheat our charitable works do for their community and they are proud to be members. As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can. 7 March 2013 C Family ongratulations to new family man, Charles Kenny. Charles married Alicia Baraniewicz in October. While adjusting to married life and attending graduate school at night, Charles still manages to edit and produce our monthly newsletter. May God bless Charles and Alicia with a fruitful and loving marriage! W ell how bout them Ravens! Could you feel people all around in deep prayer in the final seconds of that game? Along with the collective sigh of relief when we won, have you sensed that our community became one? Did you notice how we now cheered for and celebrated the same thing? We were all part of One thing. One Achievement. One Goal. We rallied together and look at what we accomplished. How many people apply that same excitement and fervor..into their faith? Do you? Pag e 7 C Knight of the Month ongratulations to the Brent McDonald, our Knight of the Month, who once again has delivered an awesome Lenten dinner, and Stations of the Cross service.
