11 Adult Education Sundays at 9:30 am, Room 206: January 10 - February 4 Amazing Grace with Bill Moyers This unique program presents adaptations of an enduring hymn, from country music to gospel to folk, in one of PBS' highest-rated programs ever. Judy Collins sings in Columbia's St. Paul's Chapel, then recalls how "Amazing Grace" carried her past alcoholism. Jessye Norman sends "Amazing Grace" soaring across Manhattan Center footlights. Hear Johnny Cash, Jean Ritchie, and the Boys Choir of Harlem, all recorded on location across America. Amazing Grace, the Film - excerpts This movie is based on the life of antislavery pioneer William Wilberforce, who, as a Member of Parliament, navigated the world of 18th Century backroom politics to end the slave trade in the British Empire. 12 January Pot-Luck Fellowship With Musical Guests, the Pencader Titan Chorale Join us for an evening full of fun this evening as we welcome the Pencader Titan Chorale for a performance at 4:00 pm and a pot-luck dinner following. Be sure to bring enough for our guests! And don t forget to invite a friend or neighbor! The Pencader Titan Chorale is the top vocal ensemble at Pencader Charter School. The 13 member ensemble has been singing since 2006 and was formed during the school's 2nd academic year. The group consists of sophomores, juniors and seniors with some of the students planning to major in music once they begin college. Musical performances consist of St. John the Divine cathedral in New York City, various state level ACDA festivals, Festivals of Music competitions and various other performances in the community. The group performs music from the renaissance to contemporary styles with an emphasis on a cappella music. Paul Gray has been directing the Titan Chorale since the Pencader Charter School first opened in Prior to that, he was a music educator in the Christina School District for 13 years. In addition to conducting the Titan Chorale, he teaches various levels of guitar class, Advance Placement Music Theory, Concert Choir and American History of Popular Music. He also teaches guitar privately in his home studio in North Wilmington.

13 Valentine's Day Brunch---Sunday, February 14, 2010 The Mission and Outreach Committee will sponsor our annual Valentine's Day brunch on Sunday, February 14th following the church service. Our guest speakers will be Linda Neel and Kathy Graham (both former members) who will provide with information about various volunteer opportunities for both individuals and small groups at Friendship House. Deacons and Elders will provide protein dishes and members are encouraged to bring anything they would like to add to the spread. We will also need volunteers on the day of the brunch to help in the kitchen as food will be arriving and may need to cook or be kept warm and to help at clean up time. Please check for sign up sheets in the CE building. Deacons and elders should call their lists and let Kris know your numbers. Snow date, if necessary, will be February 21st "Souper Bowl" Sunday Collection Super Bowl Sunday, February 7th, will be the last day for canned soup donations. According to Girl Scout Leader Nan Ciuffitelli, our church was responsible for donating the most cans of soup last year and we are hoping to repeat this generosity. All soup collected will be delivered by the scouts to the Food Bank of Delaware. So, be a "Saint", and let's make this the best "Souper Bowl" ever!

14 Friendship House Breakfast Sunday, February 7th We will be serving breakfast at Friendship House on Sunday, February 7th. Sign up sheets are posted in the CE Building for any individuals who can help with the prep work on Saturday, February 6th at 3:00 p.m. or on Sunday morning February 7th at 7:00 a.m. If you cannot serve, but would like to contribute food items there is also a sign up sheet for this as well. Thank you again for your continued support of this worthwhile ministry. If you haven't received your 2009 statement or your box of contribution envelopes, please see Shirley Knox for a replacement.

15 Mark Your Calendar Spirit of Christmas Followup Meeting There will be a Spirit of Christmas followup meeting after worship on Sunday, February 7 th in the Adult Study Room 206. Mission and Outreach Committee Needs You! Please consider becoming a member of our Mission and Outreach Committee. We are responsible for coordinating various mission and outreach opportunities throughout the year. Even though we are a small church, we are a very active force in our local and global communities and we are always looking for new ways to serve. Our next meeting is Sunday, March 14th right after the church service. If you have any questions, please contact Janet Spring at or rasjem@gmail.com. We have many experienced members who will help you get up and running.

16 Haiti Relief Your help is still needed! Please consider a gift to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance today by using the envelope in your bulletin. $200,000 from funds designated for Haiti has been provided to the Hôpital Sainte Croix (Holy Cross Hospital) and the Faculte des Sciences Infirmiere l Universite Episcopale d Haiti (FSIL) nursing school in Leogane. FSIL nursing students have established 10 emergency care units throughout Leogane. The grounds of the nursing school have become a triage area, with thousands of patients and other people living outdoors on the grounds. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and a team from Japan are now working at the nursing school, but it is anticipated that they will remain in Leogane for a limited period of time. Funds from PDA will be used to purchase and provide the following for the hospital: electrical power and distribution systems, water pump, storage and distribution system, sanitary sewage lines and sewage containment and disposal system, diesel generator and fuel for diesel generators and vehicles. On March 10, at our hosting of the Ecumenical Lenten Supper, our congregation s Mission and Outreach Committee will be sponsoring a project to construct hygiene kits to send to Haiti through Church World Service. When the earthquake struck Haiti, a 40-foot container was immediately prepared with hygiene and baby kits and sent to the Dominican Republic for transport into Haiti. Over 12,000 kits and blankets have already been distributed, and over 27,000 other kits and blankets are on the way. God acts through you!!
