*Hymn: #420 God of Grace and God of Glory *Prayer of Adoration *The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession God of grace and God of glory, We live in difficult times. We confess that we do not ask for the help of others-to pray for us. We do not seek the wisdom of older peopleto advise us. Worst of all, we do not seek your powerto uphold us. In your great mercy, forgive us. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days.

Congregational Meeting The Session has called a congregational meeting for this Sunday, at 12:00 noon for the purpose of receiving the Nominating Committee's report to elect Monty Gerhart as elder in the Class of Monty and Elliej oined New Castle Presbyterian in They feel blessed to have two daughters who were both baptized and married in the church. Monty has been a Deacon and has served 3 full terms and one partial term on Session. In addition, he taught Sunday school and has been active with numerous church proj ects and activities. He retired from public education in 2006 with over 39 years service as a teacher and school administrator. After being retired for over two years, I felt that I still had something to contribute to my profession. In February, 2009, I was blessed to be named to the fulltime position of Program Coordinator for the Master s Degree in School Leadership at Wilmington University where I have also served as an adj unct assistant professor for over ten years. In this position, I have constant contact with teachers and I am able to share my experiences, vision and belief system regarding the future of public education. I love starting a new career and finding a renewed professional purpose. I rej oice at all that life has given me... a loving wife, two wonderful daughters, two sons in-law and four prize winning grandchildren. New Castle Presbyterian Church has given so much to our family and I am excited to once again contribute what I can to the life of this church.
Adult Education Sundays: Join us on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Room 206 to revisit the popular video series What s So Amazing About Grace by Philip Yancey. We enjoyed this some years ago, and it s back by popular demand! Wednesdays: Join us at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall for a new study of Old Testament Wisdom Literature! Song of Solomon will knock your socks off, and Ecclesiastes will sound the cynical voice of our age. See how contemporary the Hebrew Bible can be! Worship Leaders Invited Anyone interested in participating in our worship service by reading Bible passages and prayers is invited to sign up in the CE building vestibule. Our Pastor chooses the readings and prepares them for the lay worship leader. Any questions, call Marcia Quillen There will be a training session on October 4 th in the Meeting House.
Spread the Good News!! Volunteer to distribute door hangers in a nearby neighborhood in the next two weeks, and spread the good news about New Castle Presbyterian Church. The Congregational Life and Membership Committee has developed attractive new literature giving nearby residents the basic story about our congregation and its ministries, with an invitation to try us out! Now all we need are willing walkers to hang them on door knobs! Get some good exercise and get the word out at the same time! Door hangers are available in a box in the outer office. Give to the Peacemaking Offering The Peacemaking Offering was created in 1980 to support the efforts of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to live out a deeper commitment to peacemaking as part of our faithfulness to God. It is one of four special offerings designated by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) s General Assembly. The offering will be received on World Communion Sunday, October 4. Our congregation retains 25 percent of the Offering we receive to use for local ministries of peacemaking within our church and community. Twenty-five percent is used by presbyteries and synods, and 50 percent is used by the General Assembly ministries through the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.
Register today to walk in the CROP Walk Sunday, October 18 th 1:00pm Beginning today, we ll begin registering walkers and handing out sponsor envelopes. Ask your friends and family to walk with you. Dogs are welcome! The shorter route of 1.5 miles is ideal for families with small children as the parents can push them in strollers or pull them in wagons. If you re not used to walking or are pressed for time, 1.5 miles is ideal. The longer route is 3 miles. Stroll along the Delaware River in Battery Park and admire the historic building in Old New Castle. This is a joyous event for us and a Godsend to those who need our help. If you can t walk, please consider sponsoring someone who is. Children are dying from lack of food and water every day. As the food crisis grows, so does our power to help. The poorest people in developing countries like Haiti spend up to 75 percent of their income on food. Church World Service helps to assist some 250,000 people in Darfur, providing assistance with clean water and sanitation, health and nutrition, education, agriculture and support for the building of schools and clinics. We can and will make a difference when we walk together! The CROP Hunger Walk is administered by Church World Service. Please make your checks payable to CWS/CROP.
September Clothing Drive The Mission and Outreach Committee announces our annual clothing drive to be held during the entire month of September. We will collect items for Friendship House s Clothing Bank of Delaware (CBD) which is celebrating its 11 th year of community service. Children s back to school items are in critical demand. Items such as school uniforms (all colors), backpacks, school supplies as well as clothing for school age children are needed immediately. Hopefully you, your extended families and your neighbors will be able to respond either by item or financial donation. While all clothing items and bed linens are welcomed, children s, men s, and larger-sized, work appropriate women s clothing are especially needed. It is important that donations be clean and in wearable condition. All donations should be bagged (large garbage bags work well) and left in the Christian Education building in Room 201 during office hours (Mon Fri 8:30 am 12:30 pm) or after church on Sundays. If climbing stairs is a problem, simply leave your donations on the first floor making sure that the bags do not interfere with normal traffic. Tax donation slips will be available along with a guide to help determine the value of donated items.
Spirit of Christmas Craft Table We are getting under way for the Spirit of Christmas. If you will be providing craft items for sale at the craft table, please put your name on the CRAFT TABLE sign-up sheet on the easel in the CE Building. Please let us know what you will be making and the approximate cost of the item so we will know how to price them on set up day, December 11th. We are always interested in a nice variety of crafts and this congregation has a wealth of talent! We know some of you are already busily making handbags, but there will be other ways you can help. Barbara Whisman suggested a great Christmas ornament using clip-on earrings. If you have any in your jewelry box that are just laying around collecting dust, or if you love to go to flea markets, garage sales, or the Farmer's Market, please collect some earrings for us and bring them to church at your earliest convenience. There will be a collection basket for the earrings. We will set up a Sunday "after church" day for making the ornaments for anyone who would like to participate. If anyone has other suggestions for crafts that would involve the congregation, please see Janet Spring or Dot Campbell. Thank you in advance for all your help.
Family Fall Fun Night Friday, October 16 th 6:00 PM At the home of Connie & Don Reese All families are invited for a night of fun in the Reese s backyard complete with a bonfire! The CE Committee will supply the hot dogs and all the ingredients for S Mores! Bring a snack to share and a 2-liter bottle of soda. Sign up in the CE Building!
