1 Volume XXII Issue 2 February 2016 MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JOEY! WHY BC 2? I suppose, by now, many of you have noticed the logo on many of my shirts and business cards. After you extended the call to Cyndi and myself, I wanted to arrive fully emerged in belonging to you. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful, energetic church who loves the Lord and His Word and who wants to be focused on His will. There are several things behind the logo. First, my hope is to attract attention when I am out. I have had a number of people ask me what does BC 2 mean? I am always thrilled to tell them that this is Baptist Chapel Baptist Church. It s where I belong. Then I ask them if they are following Jesus and invite them to come visit. A second reason for the logo is that it serves as a reminder that everywhere I go and before everyone I see, I am a representative of you. Nothing hurts my heart more than seeing the sign of the fish on the back of a car and then watching the driver of the car act rudely towards other drivers. I want my faith to be seen positively before others; so BC 2 reminds me that I am first of all God s ambassador and your representative. Last of all the logo carries an exponent. For mathematicians, you recognize the number 2 as an exponent. It is there to multiply. That is one of the responsibilities that God has given to us; to multiply. He took aside twelve men and poured Himself into their lives. He taught them, fed them, loved them, and eventually sacrificed Himself for them. But before he left them, he told them to do the same. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you (Matt. 28:19-20). There it is! His intent is simple. We are to multiply. Many Christians in our world today have accepted God s free gift of salvation selfishly. We can be more like people lined up at give away. We came to get what was due us and we take it home. Many accept His free gift and then can act like there is nothing else to do, because, after all, we have gotten that for which we came. NEWS FLASH! Christ did not live and die for us in order for us to be selfish. He did it for the sake of the world. We are called to multiply. I encourage you to invite and encourage others at every opportunity to come and visit us at Baptist Chapel. More importantly, tell them about a Savior who loves them to life. The 2 is the most important part of the logo, because that is where obedience to His purpose is found. Pastor Joey 1 February January 2016

5 NEWS FROM OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR Here we are, one month into Have you managed to keep your New Year s resolutions? If so, statistics will show that you are among the minority. As I prepare this, Men s Sunday has just wrapped up. We missed most of the winter storm that created record amounts of snow to the north. It could have been a much different story had the storm shifted slightly towards the south. Aren t you glad that God is in control? A God that can create this world and breathe life into man can no doubt direct a storm where to go. I want to thank the men who participated in Men s Day, especially those who took on the roles of Sunday school teachers. I have heard nothing but positive reports from those in attendance today. We have a great group of men at Baptist Chapel. I consider it an honor to be among the brotherhood at Baptist Chapel. We have a great group of women and youth as well. I am just as excited for Women s Day that will be coming up later this month. I encourage you all to attend and invite someone who doesn t usually attend church. Invite those who haven t attended in a while. It will provide you with an opportunity to contact them and encourage them to come back to God s house. God is doing great things in our congregation. God is certainly at work in Baptist Chapel. We are seeing new faces in the congregation. We are even getting some of those same new faces in attendance for Sunday school. Encourage those and others to come to church. We want them to do more than just come. We want them to get involved in the church. God has provided all believers with a gift. It is our responsibility to use that gift. Everybody doesn t have the same gift. We as individuals make up the body of the church. If we are not at church or are not using our gifts for God s glory, the body is not complete. There is opportunity for everyone in the body to get involved. If there is something you are interested in doing or a particular area where you would like to serve, don t wait to be asked. Speak to someone in the church. Let it be known that you are willing to serve. February is known for Valentine s Day. Let s show that love towards others. Let s all pray for a change not only in our community but in the world. I recently watched the movie Woodlawn. It is about a football team following desegregation in the schools. They changed the course of their lives through the love of Jesus. It all started with one man having the courage and willingness to share the gospel with a football team. The world is starving for that love more than ever. We need to be an example of that love that Jesus showed on the cross. We can change the world. It all starts through prayer and a willing heart. Sincerely, Scott Brown 5 February January 2016
6 WMU NEWS & EVENTS Lottie Moon: Baptist Chapel s goal for 2015 Lottie Moon is $10,000. As of 1/24/16, we have received $ Have you given? Are you wondering if you should? Wondering why you should? Because God deserves the worship of all people. As Christians, we are to proclaim the gospel. We may be the only hope for billions who have never heard of Jesus. Giving to Lottie Moon enable missionaries to be sent to multiply churches among those unreached people and places. ****100% of your offering supports missionaries. YOUR GIVING SENDS MISSIONARIES. Pray about what to give to help meet our goal and spread the word of Jesus. Senior Banquet ~ Sunday, February 14, 2016 will be the annual Senior Banquet to honor the seniors at Baptist Chapel Church. A meal will be served immediately following the worship service. A sign up sheet is on the glass window for the younger members of Baptist Chapel to bring foods for the lunch. Plan to stay to eat and celebrate the seniors of our church. Thank you to the senior citizens of Baptist Chapel for all you have done for your church family. January February
7 Women s Day 2016 ~ Sunday, February 21, 2016 Join us as women lead the service for Baptist Chapel Church. This is always an exciting day as we step outside our comfort zone to minister to our church family. Strength for the Battle, Women s Conference ~ Saturday, February 20, 2016 Plan to join us for an exciting day to learn more about Being a Godly Woman in an Ungodly World and Boundaries from Tara Furman of Knowing God Ministries (Cary, NC). Tickets are available from Allison Hargrove, Deborah Hall or Annette Cash. Cost is $25 for adults and $20 for students (high school or college) and this includes refreshments and lunch. Registration beings at 9:00 AM with music at 9:30 AM and wrap up is at 2:30 PM. We know that not everyone can travel to attend a weekend conference, so we are bringing the conference to us. Tara spoke last year at Camp Caswell and was such an inspiration to those who attended. There will also be a lady giving her testimony of her time as a victim of human trafficking. Other churches in the area are invited and hope you will also invite your women friends and family. Focus on WMU Emphasis ~ We are called to Surrender, Sacrifice and Serve. Scripture Passage: Mark 8: Emphasis Mark 8:34: When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. (NKJV) What does it mean to give ourselves fully to Christ? Three key aspects of discipleship: ~ surrender completely by denying self ~ sacrifice willingly by taking up their cross ~ serve intentionally by following Christ into their community, state and world Are we following Christ? Are we taking Christ into your community? Do others see Christ in us? Are we making a difference? I challenge us to Surrender, Sacrifice and Serve and make a difference. In Christ s Love Annette Cash 7 February January 2016
