1 Volume XXIII Issue 3 March 2017 LEAVE YOUR MARK Let s face it most of us will leave a mark on this world. Sadly, for many the only mark will be found on a gravestone in a city, family or church cemetery. What will be remembered will all be contained on that small etching. However, for some an indelible and lasting mark will remain. People like Abraham Lincoln, James Kilroy and Billy Graham have left such lasting marks. Okay, so you may not recognize that second name, but chances are you recognize his enduring script. James Kilroy was a 46-year-old shipyard inspector at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. His job was to check on the number of rivets completed. Riveters got paid by the rivet and he would count a block of rivets and mark them in waxed chalk so they would only be counted once. Once off shift, the riveters would often erase the marks and a second inspector would count the rivets again, resulting in double pay for the riveters. As costs escalated, Kilroy s boss called him in to investigate. It was then he realized what was happening. He continued to put a check mark on the blocks he counted, but then added the words, Kilroy was here. He eventually added the sketch of the chap with the long nose peering over the fence. Once he did that the riveters stopped trying to wipe away his marks. With the war in full swing, ships were leaving Quincy so fast that there wasn t time to paint them and the trademark stamp of Kilroy was seen by thousands of servicemen who boarded the troopships. They then picked up the message and spread it across the south Pacific and all over Europe. Although they didn t know who or what Kilroy was, they immortalized him from Berlin to Tokyo. Often when troops would land, someone would add the graffiti to some obscure place and then claim that the mark was already there before they arrived. He became the U.S. Super G.I. who was always already there. The logo has since made its way beneath the Arc de Triomphe, the Statue of Liberty, the top of Mt Everest and even into the dust on the moon. But maybe the best story came from the Potsdam Conference in As Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill gathered, a special outhouse was built for their use. The first occupant was Stalin, who emerged and asked his aide (in Russian), Who is Kilroy? Day by day we make marks. Few will last. Most will fade. Lincoln s American will one day be past. Kilroy s graffiti will cease to exist, but the things we do for our Lord will persist throughout eternity. There will multitudes marked in heaven due to the sharing of God s love that Pastor Graham has preached. What marks are we making? Temporal or eternal? Pastor Joey 1 March 2017
2 JESUS LOVES ME! I would like to thank everyone that participated in Women s Sunday. Whether you cooked breakfast, taught Sunday School, sang or spoke, you made it a wonderful worship service. Carla s message reminded us all that no matter what happens Jesus Loves Me! When I learned that song as a child, I didn t know how much Jesus loved me. This took on a deeper meaning for me this week as I did my devotion. He loves me enough to be spit on, punched and slapped (Matthew 26:67). Jesus loves enough to be flogged, mocked, and crucified (Mark 15:15-20). He took Wanda s infirmities and carried Wanda s sorrows He was wounded for Wanda s transgressions He was bruised for Wanda s iniquities The punishment that brought Wanda peace was on Him By His stripes Wanda was healed Like sheep, Wanda has gone astray and Wanda has turned to her own way How humbling is that? Jesus did not have to endure any of this. He did it for me. It was my sin that he suffered the flogging for and my sin that put Him on the cross. As a Christian you accept that Christ died for your sins but substituting your name in the verse makes it more personal. It s a good reminder that Jesus died for us (because of OUR sins) because He Loves us. It s a wonderful reminder that Jesus will Always Love Me and will be there for me even when I sin or when I need His help through anything. Lebanon Baptist Church in Eastover is hosting a Women s Conference on March 18, 2017 from 8:30 am 1:30 pm. The guest speaker is Dawn Smith Jordan. More information about her and the conference can be found on the flyer near the sign-up shet on the glass window. Admission is free, but they are accepting donations for the Agape Pregnancy Center. Deadline to sign up is 3/13. Contact me for more information. SAVE THE DATE! The Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held on April 1st, 7:00 am 10:00 am. Keep an eye out for the volunteer sign-up sheets to appear on the glass window. Proceeds will go towards funding the Mexico mission team. Help spread the word! In Christ s Love, Wanda March

5 GOD IS THE ANSWER We read the headlines daily and we listen to the news, We are anxious and bewildered with the world s conflicting views, We are restless and dissatisfied and sadly insecure, And we voice our discontentment over things we must endure, For this violent age we live in is filled with nameless fears That grow as we discuss the things that come daily to our ears... So, instead of reading headlines that disturb the heart and mind, Let us open up the Bible and in doing so we ll find That this age is no different from the millions gone before, But in every hour of crisis God has opened up a door For all who sought His guidance and trusted in His plan, For God provides the Answer that cannot be found by man... And though there s hate and violence and dissension all around, We can always find a refuge that is built on solid ground If we go to God believing that He hears our smallest prayer And that nothing can befall us when we are in His care... For only by believing in the things We Cannot See Can All Nations Be United in the Peace that makes Men Free... For the skill of man can conquer new worlds in outer space, But only our Creator can endow mankind with grace, And only grace that is divine can unite us with each other And make our enemies our friends and Every Man A Brother. By Helen Steiner Rice 5 March 2017
6 Sunday School at Baptist Chapel Baptist Church Baptist Chapel Church conducts Sunday School each Sunday where all ages meet in specific classrooms to focus on God, study the Bible, gain a better understanding of God s Word, and learn how to apply God s truth to one s life. Our Sunday School provides opportunities to share God s love, fellowship with Christian believers, develops an important sense of belonging (family of God), cultivates personal connections and confidence, recognizes the needs of others, our community and world, directs prayer to those needs, and builds a biblical foundation that enhances Christian growth. Our Sunday School also supports missions and many forms of Christian ministry, provides an outreach to peers, friends, and others, sets a positive example for all (especially our children), and fosters spiritual life changes. Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it. *A special THANK YOU is extended to all Sunday School teachers, assistants, and personnel who devote their time and talents in sharing the Word of God each Sunday. Thank you as well to all who attend and participate in this journey of faith and spiritual growth.
