Bereavement Ministry Our Bereavement team are caregivers trained in bereavement, pastoral and/or palliative care; who have experienced the journey of grief and loss. In gratitude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us to be the most generous with that one thing that means the most to us. 4 Page 4 SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION Sacramental Preparation St. James Parish If your child is older than seven years and in need of baptism, please contact the parish office at MARRIAGE PREPARATION Phone the Parish Office at least 6 months before marriage and make an appointment. Marriage preparation sessions are mandatory for those preparing for marriage. Sessions run 7-9pm and continue 9am-4pm on the following dates: Session Two: February 10th & February 11th, 2017 FIRST RECONCILIATION 2016 Session Three: April 28th & April 29th, 2017 For Grades 3 and up. Sessions for 2016 have now ended. Registration will begin again in September Session Four: October 20th & October 21, 2017 If your Child has not received the Sacraments at St. James Church or St. Michael s Church, a copy of their certificate of Baptism must be given at time of registration. Cost is $ per couple. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Registration is ongoing for all those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. Inquirers are instructed in the Catholic Faith and introduced to the life of the Church. The sessions are Wednesdays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. For more information please call the Parish Office at Rite of Christian Initiation of Teens (RCIT) This program is designed for all youth from grades 7-12 who desire to receive the Catholic Sacraments they have missed and for any youth who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Please contact the Parish Office for more information at Additional Registration Night for 1st Communion: Wed Feb 8th 5:30-7:30pm St. James Parish Office Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) For children in grade 2 and up who would like to receive the sacrament of Baptism. 5 Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary Announcements from the Catholic Pastoral For January 8th, 2017 Epiphany PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY Bishop Henry and Clergy of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Alberta will host a prayer service during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on January 19th from 7:30-8:30pm at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Elbow Dr SW, Calgary, with a reception to follow. Hear and pray with Christians of other denominations about this year s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity theme which is Reconciliation the love of Christ compels us. SCREENING OF THE FILM "OVER18: A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT PORNOGRAPHY" The statistics pertaining to our children's exposure to online pornography are alarming. St. Michael Catholic Community ( Street SW) will be hosting a film screening of this documentary by filmmakers Jared and Michelle Brock ( If you've missed the previous showings, here is another opportunity to see this very important film. Once again Feed the Hungry will be partnering with KAIROS Calgary and the Mustard Seed. Development and Peace was established

6 Page 6 in 1967 by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in response to Pope Paul VI's encyclical letter Populorum Progressio, which says that Development is the new word for Peace. Peace must be built daily, and it must strive towards a more perfect justice among human beings (Populorum Progressio, 76). That founding principle of Development and Peace is still maintained today. 8 T here was a very rich man who was just about to die and he wanted to take some of his wealth with him. So he started negotiations with God about the matter. God was not sure as it had never been done before and he did not want to set a precedence. Finally after long talks God reluctantly agreed to allow him to bring his wealth to heaven. Just a few days before he died the rich man converted all his money into gold bullion. He died and the funeral home made sure that the suitcases containing the gold bullion went with him. He arrived at the Pearly Gates with his suitcases and there was Peter. Peter told him he could not bring the suitcases into heaven. But the man said he had already spoken to God and he had said it was OK. So Peter got on the God phone and sure enough it was true. So Peter was curious as to what was so valuable that the man wanted to bring it into heaven. Peter said, "Could I look in the suitcases?"
