Children, the elderly, refugees, the sick and orphans through the service of Religious Sisters and Brothers. A Baptism Preparation session is required for the baptism of your first child. Baptisms take place the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of each month after the 11am mass in Okotoks, and at the 9am mass in Black Diamond. Marriage preparation sessions are mandatory for those preparing for marriage. Sessions run 7-9pm and continue 9am-4pm on the following dates: Session Two: February 10 th & February 11 th, 2017 Session Three: April 28 th & April 29 th, 2017 Session Four: October 20 th & October 21, 2017 Includes follow up meetings with Sponsor couples. Cost is $ per couple. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Registration is ongoing for all those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. Inquirers are instructed in the Catholic Faith and introduced to the life of the Church. The sessions are Wednesdays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. For more information please call the Parish Office at Rite of Christian Initiation of Teens (RCIT) This program is designed for all youth from grades 7-12 who desire to receive the Catholic Sacraments they have missed and for any youth who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Sessions will take place bi-weekly on Mondays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. Luke 18:14 Pride and ego is the root cause of most of our sins. Thinking your time is so valuable, your talent is better than anyone else and your money gives you status is another way of making those things gods before God. Remember all those gifts were Godgiven. Instead we should be humbled by God s abundant generosity and our hearts should be filled with gratitude.

5 Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary Announcements from the Catholic Pastoral Centre For October 23rd, th Sunday of Ordinary Time 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation The Pope and Lutheran leaders will meet on Oct. 31st to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The Catholic Diocese and the local Lutheran Synod will commemorate this historical event with a re-presentation of the video created on that occasion with the prayer service, as well as commentary by Lutheran and Catholic leaders on Nov. 8th from 7:00-8:30pm at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, th Ave SW, Calgary. The joint event will highlight the 50 years of continuous ecumenical dialogue between Catholics and Lutherans and their joint collaboration. The focus will also be to express the gifts of the Christian communities of the Reformation and ask forgiveness for division perpetuated by Christians from the two traditions. RED MASS In honour of judges, the legal profession, and the administration of justice, the Red Mass will be held on Oct. 26, 2016 at 5:00 pm, at St. Mary s Cathedral. Bishop Henry will preside. The Catholic Women s League will be hosting the film screening of this documentary by Jared and Michelle Brock. THE BASIC ARTS OF PASTORAL CARE Christian Pastoral Care Association is offering this course in which visitors learn and practice the basics of pastoral visiting. Four home visits were done, serving 3 adults and 8 children, with a total of 7.5 volunteer hours. Sale of Safeway and Sobeys Gift Cards Safeway and Sobeys gift cards are sold at face value every second Sunday after the 11 am and 7 pm Mass, as well as at the Parish office. Cash, cheque, debit and credit cards can be used for payment. Our goal for 2016 is to sell $9000 per month or $108,000 annually which will contribute $8100 towards the Parish. TIA donations are accepted as well! Actual Sept 1 to Sept 30, 2016 $ 2, Year to date $51, Proceeds to the Parish $ 3, Moose Steak Each Friday night after work, sun, snow, or rain, Jack, being from Newfoundland, would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a moose steak. But, all of Jack s neighbors were Catholic. And since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled moose steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The priest came to visit Jack, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Jack attended Mass, and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said: You were born a Protestant and raised a Protestant, but now you are a Catholic. Jack s neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled moose filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Jack s yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Jack, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: You wuz born a moose, you wuz raised a moose, but now you is a codfish.
