ANNUAL MEMORIAL MASS for St. James and St. Michael's Churches, will be held May 9th at 7 pm at St. James Church, Okotoks.We will be remembering deceased members of our parish whose death occurred between April 2016 and April During adoration, immediately following mass, we invite all parishioners who wish to remember their deceased loved ones, regardless of when the loss occurred, to light a memorial tea light and bring it to the altar. All are welcome to participate. Stewardship Reflection: May 7, th Sunday of Easter Mother s Day Pancake Breakfast The Knights of Columbus in Okotoks will be serving a Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast on Sunday May 14th after the 11 am mass. The offering has been expanded to include, pancakes, eggs, sausages, fruit and coffee/juice. All for the low price of $5.00 each or $20.00 per family of 4 or more. Please come out and treat your mothers & wives to this breakfast. No mess, no fuss and no dishes to wash! And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ ACTS 2:38 The word repent means to turn from sin, to change our actions. When it comes to change, do we take responsibility for change or do we think that others have to change instead? Change that is permanent comes from within, we must take control and be disciplined. 4 Page 4 Sacramental Preparation St. James Parish If your Child has not received the Sacraments at St. James Church or St. Michael s Church, a copy of their certificate of Baptism must be given at time of registration. FIRST RECONCILIATION 2017 For Grades 3 and up. Sessions for 2016 have now ended. Registration will begin again in September CONFIRMATION 2017 For Grades 8 and up. ALL CLASSES WILL BE 7-9pm, Parents and Students are expected to attend the 11am or 7pm Mass on Sundays. Cost is $ Sunday, May 7 th, 11am Celebration of Confirmation with Bishop William McGrattan FIRST COMMUNION 2017 ALL CLASSES WILL BE SUNDAYS FROM 2-3:30pm, Parents and Students are expected to attend Mass at 11am or 7pm. Parent and student are to attend each session. Cost is $ Saturday, May 6 th, 9am-12:30pm Mass, Retreat & Rehearsal - Saturday, May 13 th, or Sunday, May 14th, 2017 First Communion Sacramental Mass BAPTISM PREPARATION Registration takes place at the Parish Office before the session. A Baptism Preparation session is required for the baptism of your first child. Baptisms take place the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of each month after the 11am mass in Okotoks, and at the 9am mass in Black Diamond. Cost is $ Session Seven: Wednesday, June 14 th, 7pm If your child is older than seven years and in need of baptism, please contact the parish office at SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION Rite of Christian Initiation of Teens (RCIT) This program is designed for all youth from grades 7-12 who desire to receive the Catholic Sacraments they have missed and for any youth who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Sessions will take place bi-weekly on Mondays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. MARRIAGE PREPARATION Phone the Parish Office at least 6 months before marriage and make an appointment. Marriage preparation sessions are mandatory for those preparing for marriage. Sessions run 7-9pm and continue 9am-4pm on the following dates: Session Four: October 20 th & October 21, 2017 Includes follow up meetings with Sponsor couples. Cost is $ per couple. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Registration is ongoing for all those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. Inquirers are instructed in the Catholic Faith and introduced to the life of the Church. The sessions are Wednesdays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. 5 St. James Council, Catholic Women's League (CWL) Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9th beginning with Mass at 7:00 pm followed by our meeting in the St. Raphael Room. All members are encouraged to attend. The annual sale of the Hanging Flower Baskets will be held on Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st after all Masses. The cost is: $35.00 for the Flower Baskets, $8.00 for Geraniums, and $8.00 for Super Bells (new addition). Be sure to add this event to your calendar. Please Note: We invite all female students graduating from Holy Trinity Academy or other high school within the parish community to apply for our scholarship. JAMES FATHERS & SON GROUP Will be hosting a Safety and Career Presentation on virtue and work given by members of the Okotoks Fire department. Friday May 12th, 7pm at St. James Church INDULGENCES FOR THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPARITIONS OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA By decree of the Bishop of Calgary and in honour of the Centennial Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima, the faithful who visit Our Lady of Fatima Church in Calgary and who devotedly pray before the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, invoking (her) intercession... from May 13th 2017 to Dec. 31st, 2017 will receive a partial indulgence provided that they are baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least at the end of the prescribed works (CIC 996 1). Our Lady of Fatima Church is open to the public from May 13th on every Tuesday 3:00 to 8pm, Wed. 1:00-8:00pm, Friday 3pm to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm, and Sunday 8am to 2pm for those desiring to obtain the above partial indulgence or simply to pray. By decree of Pope Francis a plenary indulgence is also available to the faithful who meet the ordinary conditions (go to Confession and Communion, be interiorly detached from sin and in a state of grace, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father) and who visit with devotion an image of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly displayed for public veneration in any temple, oratory or adequate place, during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions (the 13th of each month from May to October 2017), and devotedly participate there in any celebration or prayer in honour of the Virgin Mary, pray the Our Father recite the symbol of faith (Creed) and invoke Our Lady of Fatima, (Jubilee Year of Fatima, Concession of Plenary Indulgence). The Church of Our Lady of Fatima will hold a Mass and rosary every 13th day of each month at 6:30pm. After the Mass and rosary, the chapel will be open for those desiring to further fulfill the conditions of the plenary indulgence.
