2 Upcoming Events and Activities RENEWAL OF VOWS AND CELEBRATION OF MILESTONE ANNIVERSARIES When: Saturday, May 27 th, 2017 Where: St. James Church What: 5:30pm Includes renewal of vows and special blessing Buffet 7:30pm 9:00pm Cost: $25 each for the anniversary couple $35 each for guests and Parishioners $15 each for children under age 10 Tickets can be purchased at all masses over the next two weekends, as well as at the Parish Office. Stewardship Reflection: May 14, th Sunday of Easter The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 1 PETER 2:7 Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. This may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills. No gift is too small or insignificant. This celebration is for all those who are celebrating a milestone anniversary (5, 10, 15 etc) in 2017, their families, their guests, and Parishioners of St. James and St. Michael s. Bereavement Ministry Our Bereavement team are caregivers trained in bereavement, pastoral and/or palliative care; who have experienced the journey of grief and loss. We understand that grief is an ongoing process and we are willing to walk with you in your journey to meaning. 4 Page 4 Sacramental Preparation St. James Parish If your Child has not received the Sacraments at St. James Church or St. Michael s Church, a copy of their certificate of Baptism must be given at time of registration. If you are interested in learning more about Sacrament Preparation please contact Leanne by at: religiousedu@stjamesparishrc.com or call FIRST RECONCILIATION 2017 For Grades 3 and up. Sessions for 2016 have now ended. Registration will begin again in September CONFIRMATION 2017 For Grades 8 and up. Registration will begin again in September BAPTISM PREPARATION Registration takes place at the Parish Office before the session. A Baptism Preparation session is required for the baptism of your first child. Baptisms take place the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of each month after the 11am mass in Okotoks, and at the 9am mass in Black Diamond. Cost is $ Session Seven: Wednesday, June 14 th, 7pm If your child is older than seven years and in need of baptism, please contact the parish office at MARRIAGE PREPARATION Phone the Parish Office at least 6 months before marriage and make an appointment. Marriage preparation sessions are mandatory for those preparing for marriage. Sessions run 7-9pm and continue 9am-4pm on the following dates: Session Four: October 20 th & October 21, 2017 Includes follow up meetings with Sponsor couples. Cost is $ per couple. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION No Weekday Mass May 15th- 19th. Prayer for First Communicants: Dear Lord, bless your children as they prepare to receive the most holy Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. May they always have a deep love and respect for this most holy sacrament and stay close to Jesus all their life. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Registration is ongoing for all those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. Inquirers are instructed in the Catholic Faith and introduced to the life of the Church. The sessions are Wednesdays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. For more information please call the Parish Office at Rite of Christian Initiation of Teens (RCIT) This program is designed for all youth from grades 7-12 who desire to receive the Catholic Sacraments they have missed and for any youth who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Sessions will take place bi-weekly on Mondays from 7-9pm at St. James Church. Please contact the Parish Office for more information at LOVE & LIFE GALA NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING (NFP) MINISTRY The Love & Life Gala is a celebration of NFP ministry that will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 541 Silvergrove Drive NW, Calgary. Mass begins at 5:00 pm, June 10. Guests will be treated to a dinner, testimonials, and live music provided by The Spokeshaves. There will be a toonie bar and silent auction. All proceeds raised will support NFP ministry. Event is hosted by NFP Alberta, Marquette Model, Billings Method with support from FertilityCare. Tickets are available at

6 Page 6 St. James Council, Catholic Women's League (CWL) REMINDER - our annual hanging basket sale is to be held in the Narthex after masses on Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st after all Masses. The cost is: $35.00 for the Flower Baskets, $8.00 for Geraniums, and $8.00 for Super Bells (new addition). Please Note: We invite all female students graduating from Holy Trinity Academy or other high school within the parish community to apply for our scholarship. 8 D uring the wedding rehearsal, the groom approached the priest with an unusual offer. Look, I ll give you $100 if you ll change the wedding vows. When you get to the part where I m to promise to love, honor and obey and forsaking all others, be faithful to her forever, I d appreciate it if you d just leave that part out. He slipped the priest the cash and walked away. The wedding day arrived.
