F arragut Presbyterian Church J esus July 15, 2018 ~ 10:00 Through the power and brilliance of the music of the organ, may you feel the majesty and glory of God; in its quietness, God s peace. Young worshipers are encouraged to pick up a children s worship bag available in the narthex prior to the service. Nursery care is available in the Education Wing. Greeting ~The Gathering~ Rev. Matt Nieman Prelude It Is Well With My Soul Purifoy Linda Stutzenberger, piano Call to Worship Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good. God s steadfast love endures forever. Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will unite. Let us worship God. *Hymn #258 Praise Ye the Lord J. Jefferson Cleveland
*Prayer of Confession Holy, triune God, we confess that we have not lived for your glory. You show us what is good, but we choose the ways of evil. You show us what is right, but we fail to do your will. Forgive us, God of grace. Redeem us from our sin and restore us to your image so that our lives may honor you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Please continue in silent prayer *Kyrie *Declaration of Forgiveness *The Response #579 Gloria Patri Greatorex *The Peace The Peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. ~The Word~ Prayer for Illumination Spirit of the living God, seal in us your Word of truth, the gospel of salvation, so we can faithfully follow and joyfully serve our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is in his name that we pray. Amen.
First Scripture Reading 2 Samuel 6:16-19 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 24 (unison; Tune: Toulon) Morgan Lord, all creation with Your name resounds, And all who dwell within earth s ample bounds; Ever above the seas have mountains stood, Planted by Your design upon the flood. Who shall to Zion s sacred heights ascend? Within God s house, whom shall the Lord defend? The true, the meek, the righteous and the pure Shall in God s courts of blessing long endure. Lift high your heads, O gates, before the Lord! Unfold to greet our God with one accord! Break free the bonds that bind you to your walls! Welcome the mighty God, the Lord of all! Lift up your heads, O ancient doors, and give Passage unbarred to God, in whom we live; Who is this God, who merits such delight? The Lord Almighty, crowned in glory bright! Moment with the Congregation Rev. Matt Nieman Second Scripture Reading Ephesians 1:3-14 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon Jesus the Redeemer Rev. Matt Nieman
~The Response~ *Affirmation of Faith (PCUSA General Assembly, 1981) We believe that God came to redeem this world of lost children, and to open the way to eternal life, through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. This Jesus who is one with us in our common humanity, is one with God as the incarnation of the second person of the Trinity. Therefore, we confess that Jesus is one person, truly God and truly human. This mystery of God s grace in Jesus Christ, which can be experienced and proclaimed, but never fully explained, is what ties Christians together in a common faith and life across the centuries. The Anthem Dona Nobis Pacem Camilla Thurman and Karenna Thurman, violinists The Offering Offertory Fairest Lord Jesus Hayes *Response #592 Doxology Old Hundredth *Prayer of Dedication Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession By your Spirit, O God, transform our lives. The Lord s Prayer (...forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors...) ~The Sending~ *Hymn (see insert) It Is Well with My Soul Ville Du Harve *Benediction
*Response Walk With Me Rice *Postlude Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Gerig Linda Stutzenberger, piano *We invite you to stand as able. Welcome to Farragut Presbyterian Church!
