Farragut Presbyterian Church June 17, 2018 ~ 8:30 and 11:00 Through the power and brilliance of the music of the organ, may you feel the majesty and glory of God; in its quietness, God s peace. Young worshipers are encouraged to pick up a children s worship bag available in the narthex prior to the service. Nursery care is available in the Education Wing during the 11:00 service. Greeting ~The Gathering~ Rev. Matt Nieman Prelude Partita on Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty Freudenburg Linda Stutzenberger, organ Call to Worship Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good. God s steadfast love endures forever. The kingdom of God is like a tiny mustard seed; it grows into a great plant with many branches. Let us worship God. *Hymn #145 Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart! Marion

*Prayer of Confession Holy, triune God, we confess that we have not lived for your glory. We judge by outward appearances, but you see what is in our hearts. We look down on small things, but you know how they will grow. Forgive us, God of grace. Teach us to live by faith, trusting in the vision of your word and the promise of a new creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Please continue in silent prayer *Kyrie *Declaration of Forgiveness *The Response #579 Gloria Patri Greatorex *The Peace The Peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. ~The Word~ Prayer for Illumination We are waiting, O God, to hear your Word, for in your Word is our hope. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may we hear your voice and be attentive to what you will say to us today. In the name of Christ, we ask this and all things. Amen.

First Scripture Reading 1 Samuel 15:34-16:13 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 20 (unison; Tune: Llangloffan) Morgan Lord, hear our supplication, For trouble is at hand; And be to us a strong defense When foes against us stand. Remember then our tributes, Each sacrifice we bring; Accept them as Your honor due, Our Shepherd and our King. The Lord shall with a victor s crown Adorn the servant s head; God s foes proclaim their own conceit, I praise my Lord instead. Their pride falls to destruction, Yet I am ever brave, Assured God s purpose is to judge, God s mercy is to save. Moment with the Children (11:00) Rev. Matt Nieman Second Scripture Reading Mark 4:26-34 The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon What God Is Doing Rev. Matt Nieman

~The Response~ *Affirmation of Faith (from the PCUSA Brief Statement of Faith) In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God s new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! The Anthem *8:30 Hymn #399 We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight Dunlap s Creek 11:00 All Things Bright and Beautiful John Rutter Women s Ensemble The anthem text may be found in The Hymnal, #267. The Offering Offertory O Christ, the Great Foundation Peeters *Response #592 Doxology Old Hundredth *Prayer of Dedication Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession The Lord s Prayer (...forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors...) ~The Sending~ *Hymn #443 O Christ, the Great Foundation Aurelia *Benediction

*Congregational Response #419 In What You Give Us, Lord Repton In what You give us, Lord, to do, Together or alone, In old routines or ventures new, May we not cease to look to You- The cross You hung upon All You endeavored done. *Postlude Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart! Peeters *We invite you to stand as able. Welcome to Farragut Presbyterian Church! We are glad you have joined us for worship today. Please register your presence in the friendship folders located at the end of each pew. You are invited to join us for coffee and fellowship in the narthex after worship today. Our Women s Ensemble sings today in honor of Father s Day! Our guest organist today is Dr. Linda Stutzenberger. Linda holds a doctoral degree in piano performance and retired in 2008 as Head of the Department of Music at Pellissippi State Community College. She has numerous years of experience as a teacher and church musician. We thank this FPC member for sharing her talents with us today.
