When the green leaves become ablaze with the color of autumn, I will recall Octobers past when I fell in love. It was on an October day long ago when I fell in love with the Lord Jesus and gave my heart to Him. My life has not been the same since He came into my life. On another October day that seems not so long ago, I fell in love with Ann, a woman that I am proud to call my wife. I am so blessed to have her to be a part of my life. As we continue reading through the Bible here at New Covenant Church this year, one of the books of the Bible we will read during October is Song of Songs. This short book of the Bible is attributed to King Solomon and speaks of the love that one has for their significant other. Song of Songs reads like a love letter at times, and it is. It is a part of the Bible because it is believed to be written by Solomon to speak about the deep, abiding love God has for us. I do not understand it, this love God has for me. As I share the bread and cup on World Communion Sunday on October 6, I will again ponder the truth that God loved me (and you) so much that His Son gave His life. This holy and wholegiving love of God for me is a mystery to me. All I know to do is to say thanks and show my thanks in the life I live. One of the ways we say thanks is to tell others about His love like I am telling you right now. I invite you to do the same. -- Pastor Randy Wall

2 Greetings family of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Youth Ministry is once again beginning to pick up. After the summer months, August sort of slows down, but in September it picks back up again. I hope all that came out to the Youth Talent Show had a great time, I know the youth love doing it and preparing for it. We are all so proud of them for they work really hard. Thank you for your support. I wish to take my space in the newsletter to make everyone aware of what will be happening in Youth Ministry until the end of the year. On October 20th an old friend of mine, Jamie Wollin, and his family, who are missionaries in Cambodia will be coming to speak to the youth about being a missionary and what is taking place in Cambodia. We are also working out where they will come and speak to any youth or adults who have ever thought about becoming a missionary. They will explain where to start and what you must do to follow this path. We are planning this meeting at 4pm. Oct. 26th the youth will attend the Fall Festival, and then those willing will leave afterwards and go over to the Hickory Grove Haunted Trail. Oct. 27th we have planned our outing to the Amazing Maize Maze, we will leave right after church, go out to lunch and then to the maze. On Nov. 10th we are inviting a Veteran to come and speak to the youth group in Honor of Veterans Day. Nov. 17th will be our Shopping and Boxing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will plan on going after service to lunch, then to the Dollar Store and back to the Church to pack so we can drop off the following week. National Drop off Week will be the week of the 17th. 5 Isn t It Exciting Being A Christian? By Marvin Hinson Every world religion has their own god, or in many cases they have multiple gods that their followers believe are the true gods. We, as Christians, believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and that God is the only real God. We believe that Hindus, Buddhists, Shammans, Muslims, etc. have been deceived into worshipping false gods. But how do we know-for sure- that our way is correct and that the God we worship is the only God? In this month s newsletter and in later newsletters, we will be exploring evidences God has given us to demonstrate his uniqueness as deity. In the book of Isaiah (Is. 46:9-10), Gods states this exact claim: Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand and I will do all that I please. One way we know that the Bible is reliable and that God is completely trustworthy is because of the hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled in astonishing detail. We know from the Bible that Jesus birthplace was to be Bethlehem; that He would be born of a virgin; we know the time that He was to be born and we have prophecies that foretell the end of His life as well. We are told, hundreds of years before the events, that Jesus would be betrayed by a friend; that His clothes would be gambled for; that when He stood accused, He would not open His mouth; that He would be buried in a rich man s tomb; and that He would be sold for exactly 30 pieces of silver. In addition to these prophecies, we have an entire Psalm, (Ps 22) which gives a detailed description of Jesus death by crucifixion. What makes this truly astonishing is that when Psalm 22 was written, crucifixion as a form of capital punishment had not even been invented. Choir News Change in DOC Rehearsal DOC will have rehearsal on Tuesday nights at 7:00 to accommodate the needs of the members of the group. Now would be the PER- FECT time for you to come join us. All women grades 6 through adult are welcome. Y all come now, ya hear? Join us for this year s Charge Conference on Sunday, October 27th at 4:30 p.m. This will be a Cluster Charge Conference at Salem UMC. Everyone is invited to attend. Meanwhile, there is no other religion in the world that can claim foreknowledge of future events. There are no fulfilled prophecies that Islam, Buddhism, Shintoism, Hinduism or any other religion can point to as proof that their beliefs are real. God gave us the evidence of fulfilled prophecies so that we could know, with absolute certainly that the God of the Bible is the only God who ever was or ever will be. Isn t it exciting to be a Christian?
