The Greek word glory is doxa which was also translated honor, praise, worship. Using these words in place of glory can give us a deeper understanding of how we can do everything to the glory of God.

I Corinthians 10: 31 Something that has helped me understand whether my behavior is being done to the glory of God is by asking myself a few questions. Would this activity dishonor God?

Would what I am about to do, help or hinder the cause of Christ?

2 Pastor s Page Page 2 From the Pastor s Desk.. July 2017 Mine eyes have seen the glory, of the coming of the Lord, He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. He has loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword, His truth is marching on. The glory of God is a subject that is hard to put into a few words. The Greek word glory is doxa which was also translated honor, praise, worship. Using these words in place of glory can give us a deeper understanding of how we can do everything to the glory of God. So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10: 31 Something that has helped me understand whether my behavior is being done to the glory of God is by asking myself a few questions. Would this activity dishonor God? Would those who see me go in this place believe me to be a faithful disciple of Christ? Do my actions and conversations reflect positively toward God? Would what I am about to do, help or hinder the cause of Christ? We are building a new church building if we are disciples for Jesus, do our actions reflect in such a way that those who saw us in the community would want to go to our church? Our goal should always be Christians that show Christ in us, and the longer we live to be more like Him. Whether we eat or drink, work or play, swim or play basketball, watch TV or talk to our neighbors, read our Bible or the newspaper, or whatever we do ---- do it in such a way that it will reflect positively on our Lord. Through Christ, we can do everything to the glory of God.

Page 3 Tommy & A Faithful Friend Tommy is in Pekin Indiana visiting his brother Timothy. Tommy will be back in August. This month I am going to do something different.

We are getting close to moving our congregation to the new church and I would like to honor those families who were raised in this building on Main and Lawrence St.

It is, and will always be a historical building with its stain glass windows, steeple, and carillons playing on the hour. You just don t find that anymore.

3 Page 3 Tommy & A Faithful Friend Tommy is in Pekin Indiana visiting his brother Timothy. Tommy will be back in August. This month I am going to do something different. So you will have to ponder who June s Faithful Friends were for another month. We are getting close to moving our congregation to the new church and I would like to honor those families who were raised in this building on Main and Lawrence St. This church has a rich history in Middlebury. We have celebrated our 160 th anniversary in this church building. It is, and will always be a historical building with its stain glass windows, steeple, and carillons playing on the hour. You just don t find that anymore. This church is a part of what makes Middlebury so special. We are a community of rich spiritual history. There are many churches tucked away on other streets here, but we are right here one block from downtown. This church is a constant reminder to those passing through, what part faith plays in this community. It is one of the things people know right away when you say we are the little white church, downtown Middlebury. So it will continue to be a monument to this congregation s history, even though we are embarking on a new chapter in our new home south of town. On Sundays in the month of July you will be seeing a few of the families that were raised in this church. They will be representing their whole family by being our acolytes. This is their way of honoring the heritage of this church and their families that helped build this congregation. Obviously there are more than 5 families who were raised in this church but these families are some of those who have a long history in this church. July 2 nd, Rosealene and Charles Long are the acolytes. When I asked Rosealene what she remembers about Charlie growing up in this church. She said Charlie always wanted to be one of the acolytes. Well his wish has come true. July 9 th, Shirley and Sam Hoover. Shirley said, Sam would volunteer as much as he could to be an acolyte so that he didn t have to sing in the choir. July 16 th, Dian Wilkey and Rex Krider are the acolytes. They honoring the Krider family. Dian said Rex was the mischievous, talkative brother. Since she was older she had to deal with him a lot. July 23 rd, Gerry and Bonnie Warstler are the acolytes. Bonnie said she remembers the ringing of the church bell just before every service and the marching in two by two of the choir. She loved to listen to the beautiful sopranos, Beverly Miller and Opal Krider sing. Today would have been Dean s birthday. July 30 th, Amy Miller and Julie Blair. They are honoring the Frederick family. As sisters they remember they always had to sit in the third row from the front and if they ever tried to turn around their mother would pull on their ear. Boy did that hurt! God has blessed this church with so many special families. Stop and talk with them about their experiences in this building.

4 Page 4 Missions, 3 F s, S.O.S., and Correspondence Thank you to Dave and Linda Harms for organizing the Father s Day hot dog picnic/ carry-in at the pavilion on June 18. Thanks to all that helped with the set up and clean-up, the June committee for drinks, and to Duane Stickel for helping with the audio. It was an enjoyable day. ELDERBERRIES will not meet in July so we can enjoy the 4h Fair. We will begin again August 25th. Please be sure to sign up if you are coming so we know how to plan. Johns Island Mission Trip is scheduled for the first full week in October. Anyone is welcome to go. We are looking for more than just the mission committee to go. S.O.S. Let s get to the fair and show our support for the youth of FUMC July 9-14 Epworth Forest, high school youth. Camp Adventure, middle school youth Keep our Youth in your prayers as they seek to get closer to Jesus. Saturday, August 5th End of Summer trip to Silver Beach Lake Michigan! VOLLEYBALL, SUPER SPLASH PAD, CONCESSIONS and of course THE LAKE! FRIDAY, AUGUST 25th OVERNIGHT CAMPOUT at the Pavilion 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m. Hot Dogs & S mores.
