1 Volume 65 / Week Number 4 / January 23, 2014 The Messenger first baptist huntsville FIrST THOUGHTS David Hull, Pastor I hope that you will take a close look at the Stewardship Update which is included in this issue of The Messenger. You will see some very good news about our financial situation as a church at the end of the first quarter of our budget year. I love sharing good news, so let me call your attention to three important parts of the stewardship information: First quarter giving was $1,433,267, which was over $110,000 more than our budget for the same period. In addition, this amount represented a 7.7% increase over giving for the first quarter of last year. Giving to our Faith Steps Capital Campaign remains strong. We will receive funds for this special campaign through all of 2014 and then begin our longterm loan in January of next year. Our receipts so far lead us to project that our long-term loan balance next January should be below our goal of $3.5 million. With all of this emphasis on the church budget and paying for the buildings, we certainly did not want the World Missions Offering to suffer. A goal of $85,000 had been set for this year but we actually gave $104,058 for World Missions! As you can see, every one of these points is good news. It calls forth our Doxology! I am so grateful for your generous and faithful stewardship. Let s keep it going so that the ministry of the church can flourish, the expenses of the building program can be met and the interest cost minimized, and missions around the world can receive the very best of our support. Keep up the great work! We looked to the past with a Stewardship Update, now let me look ahead for a moment to something new that begins this Sunday. You may have seen notices about Opus 48, An Artist Series at First Baptist Church. Our church is blessed to have many folks with wonderful gifts and talents in the arts, especially in music. Opus 48 is based on Philippians 4:8 and is an opportunity for our musical artists to share their gifts in a recital and concert setting. The first edition of Opus 48 will be this Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. I invite you to come for a very special presentation of music by a variety of folks in our church. Last Sunday morning we talked about Movement as an important part of our health. This week we explore the Medical dimension of our health. Jesus was the Great Physician what can we learn from the Bible about the role of medicine in the full life of wholly living? Let s talk about that on Sunday. this sunday January 26, 2014 Sermon Living Wholly: Medical First Fellowship Worship - 8:15 a.m. Music from First Fellowship Band Morning Bible Study - 9:15 a.m. Bible Study for all ages Sanctuary Worship - 10:30 a.m. Call To Worship by the LCT Chamber Singers Praise to the Lord, the Almighty - Distler Anthem by the Sanctuary Choir There Is A Balm In Gilead - arr. 5 MeetFBC! New to FBC? Been here a while and want to know more about FBC? We have a place for you! Meet FBC! meets for 5 weeks in a small group setting where we learn more about our staff and get to ask questions about our church. Our first gathering session is Sunday, February 2 at 9:15 in the Community Room. During these five weeks, we meet our ministers and they share more about our faith family in an informal dialogue time. Our pastor, Dr. David Hull, will be the first minister to visit MeetFBC! Because we are small in size, we get face time with our ministers. We learn more about the ministries that FBC offers and ways that you can participate. One Sunday we will also tour the building, which is really helpful for many people, especially since we are now in our new space! Your Stephen Ministry at FBC sends you good wishes for the New Year. If you have discovered that you are not feeling the best about things in your life right now, a Stephen Minister would love the chance to spend some time with you. We have over twenty trained ministers who will listen, pray with you, offer some spiritual encouragement, or just be a loving presence to you. Our assignments can be confidential if you wish. Call today at We would love the opportunity to help to brighten your New Year. If you have questions or want to register, contact 2345 Ministry Office at or 2345adults@fbchsv.org.
