1 Upcoming Events at Trinity July 23 Dinner and a Movie at 5:30pm with Hawg-N-Sauce for dinner and Facing the Giants will be our powerful, family movie starting at 6:15pm. Invite your friends, neighbors and co-workers to come out and be blessed. The month of August is Children & Youth month at Trinity, we are starting with the Blessing of the Backpacks Service on August 6 th at 5:00pm in the fellowship hall which is for all students from pre-school through grad school. We will be having a special blessing service at 5:00pm followed by hot dog supper with chips, brownies and homemade ice cream to enjoy. Every week during our morning worship service we ll have our children quoting scripture they have memorized in Sunday school and will be getting awards for their hard work. If you d like to donate food for the dinner or prizes for our youth please see Pastor Jamie. Coming soon.. The End of Me Bible study will be starting in September and if you d like a journal for the study please see Pastor Jamie to order yours by August 13. The Crop Walk in Evansville will be on October 28 th and I d love to have a big team from Trinity to support this awesome ministry which touches lives all around the world. A big THANK YOU to all who donated and worked at Vacation Bible School this year. It was a big hit with all the kids and adults too. We could not have done it without all your support. 3 Shrimp Boil Advisory Christ called us to be Fishers of Men. We re going to be Shrimpers of People. Enjoy a relaxing, fun evening with a traditional Low Country Shrimp Boil, and help raise money for Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS. Shrimp, corn on the cob, potatoes, sausage, corn muffins and dessert will be served, along with tossed salad and garlic bread. Hot dogs will be available for those who don t eat shrimp. Chris Marlin-Warfield, Church Relations Associate for Back Bay, will be our special guest. With Cajun music on the radio and Cajun food on the table, this will be a dinner to remember. Sunday, August 20, :00PM Christ Church UCC, 3601 Washington Avenue, Evansville. No cost, a freewill offering for Back Bay will be requested. Habitat for Humanity ReStore The Habitat for Humanity of Evansville s ReStore is to help provide funding for our organization s mission of bring people together to build homes, communities...and hope. The store does this by selling donated new and used appliances, furniture, cabinets, building products and household items to the general public. By providing a free pick-up service, the store is also an outlet for our donors to be able to recycle and repurpose items that may have otherwise gone to the local landfills. Since these items are donated to us, we are able to provide our donors with a charitable gift receipt. Starting at 11:00 on Saturday there will be a $3.00 bag sale. St. Lucas is located at 33 W. Virginia Street,, Evansville. A Memorial and Celebration of Life for Lee Moye will be held in the fellowship hall on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 2:00-5:00p.m.. Stacey and Barb invite you to drop by to share some memories. 4 Life as an Oxymoron The dictionary defines oxymoron as a rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are joined. The English word is formed from two Greek terms oxus, sharp, and moros, dull. It therefore identifies expressions that appear to link opposite and incompatible ideas. Common examples might be computer reliability or temporary tax increase. Got the picture? Someone recently shared with me a list of the Top 50 Oxymorons with me. Here are the ones I selected as my favorites: Act Naturally Almost Exactly Alone Together New Classic Childproof Clearly Misunderstood Plastic Glasses Terribly Pleased Definite Maybe Pretty Ugly Now, then The fun intended by pointing to these common terms with questionable propriety set me to thinking about more serious issues. For example, you probably have some skepticism about unemployed workers. If they re really willing to work, there s little excuse right now for people to be unemployed. On the other hand, I d hope nobody points to your company or to you and offers business ethics as an oxymoron. And what about your family? Are you an unloving mate? Ever take a working vacation with the people who want, need, and deserve your attention and find it strangely unrewarding? The ultimate inconsistency in the life profile of any mother or father would be for someone to appropriately tag her or him with the label absentee parent. You may be one or the other, but you re not both! Just ask your children. Then comes your relationship with Jesus. Ever hear what surely amounts to the ultimate oxymoron spiritual indifference? According to Jesus, the two words cancel out one another. The New International Version have Him saying this in Matthew 10:30: He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. The Message makes the sense of His words emphatic with this rendering: This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you re not on my side, you re the enemy; if you re not helping, you re making things worse. OUCH!! Maybe there are some less-than-funny aspects to this business of inconsistency in words, behaviors, and relationships. I don t really want to be laughed at in the things that matter matter eternally.
