As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another Peter 4:10 Some of the small cardboard boxes marked MY LENTEN GIFT that were distributed to the children by Fr. Travers during the Family Mass at the beginning of Lent were returned with their offerings. Father told the children that the money offered up would go to help young mothers who are alone with their child. Accordingly, the total amount of $92.44 has been taken from their boxes and put into one of the fund raising baby bottles from CrossRoad Foundation, a local Catholic organization that helps mothers with their babies. Annabelle Bertuccio, Owen Bertuccio, Andrew Curty, Roseangel Sadallah, Skyler Silva and Shenaya experienced the exercise of charity by giving what they could to help others in need. May the gift of their Lenten sacrifice be crowned with Easter benediction!

4 PENTECOST SUNDAY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM 2018 CARDINAL S APPEAL New Family Registration for children who will be entering the first grade in September 2018 will take place in the school building on: Friday, June 8 th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and Monday, June 18 th from 7:00-8:00 p.m. At the time of registration, new families must: 1. Be registered in the parish, proof of parish registration is required (envelope #). 2. Bring a copy of your child s Baptismal Certificate. (even if your child was baptized here). 3. Bring a transcript of prior Religious Education if the child is not entering the first grade. Fees for new families are: 1 child $230, 2 children $370, 3 or more children $475. 5 MAY 20, 2018 I m Dane Torcivia, a native of Annadale, Staten Island. I grew up in Staten Island and have a lot of memories of the masses led by Father Travers, Father Ed, and Father Willy. Some time ago I found out about an organization called the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults (UCF). UCF strives to ensure that no cancer patient has to go through their struggle alone. UCF also provides scholarships and grants for cancer patients. This summer, I am lucky to have the opportunity to go on a 4,000-mile bike ride with the Ulman Cancer Fund. I, along with 29 other dedicated young adults, will be biking from Baltimore, MD to Seattle, WA. I found out about the Ulman Cancer Fund and this bike ride with them online and thought it would be a great opportunity to help others and do some really great work with an organization that really cares about people. When signing up we are asked what our relation to the cancer community is. I recounted of my mother and her experience with melanoma, skin cancer. My mother Adrienne Crosby, is the strongest woman I know and we all (my family and I) are so grateful that my mom and the doctors caught the cancer early before it spread, and she was able to overcome this incredible hurdle in her life. When telling my mother s story to the UCF, I mentioned that I couldn t remember many times at which she spoke about her cancer, and I think this was in part because she didn t want anyone else to worry too much, especially me, my brother and my sister. She has always given 100% when raising us, she has overcome cancer, and she got her undergraduate and her master s degree while working as a waitress and I don t know anyone stronger than her. During our 4,000-mile, 70 day bike ride to the West Coast, my team and I will be visiting cancer patients and hospitals as well as giving out chemo care packages and doing other work in the cancer community along the way. In order to go on the bike ride, I must raise a minimum of $4,500. When UCF does this annual 4,000-mile ride, a number of establishments, usually schools and churches, are gracious enough to host the team members. to stay the night to have a place to sleep, and UCF also looks for other establishments to donate things such as food. All this is to keep the cost as low as possible and allows UCF to utilize the donations. Therefore, anyone who finds it in their heart to donate to such a caring organization can be assured that their money is going to a good cause and is being used effectively.
