2 HOLY CHILD CHURCH EXTRA CONFESSION SESSION By archdiocesan decree, Monday 14 December is designated Reconciliation Monday. 4 THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT Advent Giving Tree Our Giving Tree has been on display in the church vestibule since Thursday, November 26th. The tree, as in past years, is decorated with gift tags. Each tag lists an item for a needy child or adult. Please select a tag, purchase the item listed and return it gift-wrapped and the tag attached, to the school basement this weekend only so that gifts can be delivered in time for Christmas. No gifts can be left in the school before, or after that weekend because there is no room to store them. Thank you for your cooperation and for making Christmas brighter for others. As the season of giving begins, Boy Scout Troop 132 would like to send out a HUGE Thank you to the entire Parish for your help in making our Food/Frozen Turkey Drive a success. Thank you for all the gift certificates and beautiful made up baskets that were left in the school for us. This year we collected 108 Frozen Turkeys and were able to make 89 baskets of food to send to our local pantry. God Bless you all and have a very Merry Christmas and a very Blessed New Year. PATRICK ADVENT RETREAT 53 St. Patrick s Place, Staten Island, NY The retreat will be held on Advent Mondays, December 14 th & 21 st in the Church after the 9am Mass. This program will be comprised of prayer, music, and reflections on scripture for the Advent season, sharing, and presentations on topics in Ignatian Spirituality. Each meeting will be an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. The program will be presented by Bob Giugliano, Ph.D. and Rick D Aversa. HOLY CHILD BASKETBALL COUNCIL PRESENTS SUPERHERO VS. 5 DECEMBER 13, 2015 Our Family Life / Respect Life chair endorses the Cross Road Foundation. Holy Child supports it with the baby bottle campaign. We make it a practice to publish the happy news they send us by way of Birth Announcements. Here are excerpts from their letter of November 1, Cross Road Foundation 1152 Victory Boulevard Staten Island, NY As an alternative to Planned Parenthood, pregnancy care centers provide the encouragement and support that helps women to be hopeful about their unexpected pregnancies. At our own center last year, six out of ten women who were considering abortion chose instead to have their babies. The main challenge we face is letting women know about our services. In a recent survey, only 26% of young women said they knew someone who had been to a pregnancy care center whereas 50% knew someone who had been to Planned Parenthood.. We recently sent out client brochures to OB/GYNs across the Island. We are currently upgrading our client website: Pregnancy Resource Services so as to be more accessible on smartphones. Our advisors are also brainstorming how to reach more students in our Island high schools and colleges. Yet, the most effective way to reach young women, according to the survey mentioned above, is by word of mouth. For this reason, should the opportunity present itself, I would be grateful if you would spread the word about our services..
