3 Things Above from Fr. Bilot Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Page 3 HE IS RISEN! ALLELUIA! You would not be reading this article if Jesus had not risen from the dead. You would not have picked up this bulletin and attended the holiest Mass of the year if Jesus had not risen from the dead. We probably would not even exist if Jesus had not risen from the dead. If each of us goes back into our lineage, we would realize that we would not be living if it were not for our Christian heritage. Looking at our lineage, we see how people met through the practice of their faith, attending Mass, and being part of a religious Catholic organization. I marvel at how many weddings at which I have presided of former students of our high school. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, our parish and school would not exist, and these men and women, who fell in love, would not be a reality. If Jesus had not risen from the dead, we would not be here today celebrating a profound gift of sacrifice, love and redemption. The sweetness of life that represents the awesome victory of Jesus Christ would not be our reality. There would be no chocolate bunnies or eggs. No jelly beans and those, shall we say, unbelievable marshmallow peeps! Nothing would be in our mind or on our tongue. If we believe that Jesus rose from the dead, then all life makes sense. Even more, today, here and now, Jesus is alive! He didn t rise from the dead and leave us alone. His very existence permeates every action of our lives. Attentive to him or not, Jesus rising from the dead changes the course of existence. Where is he, one may ask, with all the death, violence and destruction around us? Well, just as we see violence and death, do we look for truth, beauty and goodness in the hearts of men and women? Jesus rose from the dead to overcome the power of corruption and death. We, however, must embrace his life, his abiding love in the world, and not succumb to the power of darkness. The Resurrection assures us that, despite the presence of evil, Jesus prevailed. No one in the history of the world has risen from the dead. His life, death and resurrection are proof. If the Resurrection was not real, there is no way our Catholic Church would be in existence today. And, despite the persecution the Church endures today, Jesus tells us that nothing can prevail against it and win. Jesus is victorious! That is the truth. I pray that each of us takes time to realize the profound effect Jesus Resurrection has on our history and on our lives. See how our Catholic faith and our Christian values have shaped us. Take note and see if we are drifting from the truth of the Resurrection. It is imperative we embrace the reality that Jesus is Risen from the dead! It is a powerful and deep mystery, but a mystery that is filled with wonder, sweetness and beauty. Enter the mystery, and we will find the Resurrection powerfully at work in our lives! Jesus Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!! Grateful to the Risen Lord that we can celebrate together, Fr. Jim Bilot WELCOME DIVINE CHILD PARISHIONERS AND VISITORS! Happy Easter to everyone from the entire parish staff! We are delighted that you've joined us at Church of the Divine Child on this great feast. Feel free to call the parish office at or us at vicky@divinechild.org, if you would like to join the parish, or have questions. May the Glory and Praise of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ be with you this day, and may his Spirit shine through you this Easter Season!

4 Page 4 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Love is Strong as Death We are now forever changed by the events that we now celebrate. The Resurrection of Christ from the dead is not a mere miracle of a man returning from the dead. In the Gospels, Jesus brought back several people from the dead. However, in all of those cases, those people eventually died again. This is why the resurrection of Jesus is different. Jesus underwent the sorrowful death through His passion and remained in the tomb three days. However, when Jesus rose from the dead, He did not merely come back to life but through His resurrection He took on an incorruptible nature that cannot be touched by death. Through the incorruptible nature of the resurrection of Jesus, our very nature has changed as well. Jesus becomes the gateway to resurrection for each one of us. Death is the primary struggle of life. Fear of death is the only fear that we cannot resolve within ourselves. In the Song of Songs, the love poetry of the Old Testament, the sacred writer proclaims that Love is strong as death, (Songs 8:6). Death is not to have the last word for us. Instead, love triumphs over death. The incarnate love of God, Jesus Christ, has definitively destroyed the power of death. The Resurrection of Christ changes the course of history and our lives. We are redefined by the triumph of Love. To reflect the change that happens in each one of us through the Resurrection, there is an ancient tradition in the Church to change the way that we greet one another during this season. During the fifty days of the Easter season, instead of merely greeting each other with hey, or how are you doing, the Church invites us to greet one another with the greeting Christ is Risen! The response then is Truly, He is Risen! The tradition of the Paschal Greeting finds its origin in the Gospel when the disciples proclaim, The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon! (Luke 24:34). During this season, I encourage you to help reclaim this tradition, especially at home with your families. Fr. Matthew Hood Christ is Risen! Alleluia, alleluia! Thinking about becoming Catholic? Already Catholic, and thinking about receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? Divine Child Parish invites those considering Baptism and Confirmation to examine the Catholic faith more closely, ask questions and learn how to become baptized and/or a fully initiated Catholic. 6 Page 6 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan The Wild Goose Series for the Easter season All new sessions ~ please consider attending any or all of the sessions The Gifts of the Holy Spirit Monday, April 23, 1:30 2:45 pm or Wednesday, April 25, 7:00 8:15 pm Whatever our experiences, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for all Christians, and no one should think the gifts are not for them. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are to be experienced in our daily life. The Fruits of the Holy Spirit Monday, April 30, 1:30 2:45 pm or Wednesday, May 2, 7:00 8:15 pm By the way we live and how we treat people, our lives produce some type of fruit. The sort of fruit our lives produce has eternal consequences for us personally as well as a profound impact on those people we love. In fact, our fruit impacts all of our relationships, from the most casual to the most intimate. When we live animated by the Holy Spirit, our lives produce fruit that not only makes our own life more peaceful, patient and loving but also influences positively those we encounter each and every day. The Spirit Gives Witness Monday, May 7, 1:30 2:45 pm or Wednesday, May 9, 7:00 8:15 pm We are not able to fully understand who Jesus is on our own strength, intellect and power. The Holy Spirit aids us in moving from our limited intellectual perception of who Jesus is and what he has done for us to a life changing understanding of Jesus. It is also the Holy Spirit that inspires us to give witness to Jesus Christ by our words and actions. The Spirit Remembers Monday, May 14, 1:30 2:45 pm or Wednesday, May 16, 7:00 8:15 pm It is important for us to remember the great things that God has done for us. Often we become consumed with our daily struggles and forget all that the Lord has done. We may also only focus on God not doing what we want of him. One of the blessings of the Holy Spirit is that the Spirit reminds us what Jesus said and what Jesus has done for us. There is no limit to what God has done or what he desires to do in our lives. There is no fee --- Space is limited, so please register to reserve your spot All sessions will be in the gathering room of the church.
