2 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 17, 2018 Caring for our Common Home Although rainy, God provided us with a wonderful day to celebrate our earthly and common home. Some 75 parishioners and friends gathered under pavilion 3 (near the lake) at Frances Slocum State Park to pray for and bless the earth and everyone inhabiting it. Heartfelt thanks to the members of our Parish Pastoral Council who prepared for and executed this meaningful annual event. Thanks, too, to all who joined us in song and prayer. Sack Hunger St. Therese s will join with other local communities participating in the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) Program, SACK HUNGER. This weekend you will find grocery sacks hanging on the pews. If you would like to participate, take a sack home and fill it with your non-perishable contributions. One way to do this would be to take advantage of grocers BOGO offers as you shop for yourself. The sacks are rather large so it s alright if you are unable to fill one completely. Return the sack to the collection area in the church vestibule on June or The food will then be delivered to the Back Mountain Food Bank. All food stays local. For additional information, please contact Michelle Pilch at Monetary donations are accepted and checks should be made out to the Back Mountain Food Pantry. The overwhelming success of this Stewardship endeavor is due largely in part to the tireless efforts of Terri Besecker and the Stewardship Committee. 3 Sisters from the Daughters of St. Paul, whose mission in the Church is to evangelize through media, will visit St. Therese Parish the weekend of June 23 & 24 with a Pauline book and media display, including a quality selection of Catholic Bibles, lives of the saints, spirituality titles, music CDs, and DVD movies, etc. for all age levels. Plan ahead to take advantage of this faith-enrichment opportunity! THE DIOCESE OF SCRANTON A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP BAMBERA As you may already know from media reports, the Diocese of Scranton has been the subject of a statewide Grand Jury investigating child abuse in six of the eight dioceses of Pennsylvania. Public release of the report is expected in the coming weeks. I want to take this opportunity to offer my deepest apologies to the victims of such abuse, to their families, to the faithful of our Church and to everyone impacted by the behaviors described in this report. While difficult to face, this is the only way for us to move forward in a more positive way as we learn from the past. You will be kept apprised of new developments through various channels of communication as more information is released. Once again, I am deeply sorry for these past actions and the pain caused by the behaviors described in the report, and I will continue to do all that I can to ensure the safety and well-being of our children. 4 Our Summer Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 30 August 3, The number of children participating continues to grow and any monetary donations for snacks and supplies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! Outdoor Pavement Repairs Beginning on Saturday, June 30, and concluding on Saturday, July 7, (weather permitting), the pavements at the bottom of the plaza steps, (near the flagpole), and at the top of the hall steps, will be blocked off for repairs. Please use alternate entrances and exits until the work is completed. The ramp to the hall will be passable. 10 Great Dates to ENERGIZE your Marriage (A program to help spark romance with memory making evenings) Dates are held the fourth Saturday of each month. Topics do not build on each other. Therefore, you do not need to attend every month to benefit and you do not need to commit to all 10 dates. Next session: Saturday, June 23. Dates start at 6:00 pm in Father Sammons Hall. The night begins with a 15 minute DVD, before you leave for your personal date. Date ideas include dinner, taking a walk, taking a drive, etc. Anything that will allow discussion time with each other. We have always volunteered during lent, but it seems they have plenty of help for that time frame. The need for volunteers is greater during the summer months. We will be going for 6 weeks on Tuesdays during July and into August. If you would like to volunteer to help from 4 to approximately 6:30, please call Gary Williams to schedule your date: July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7. Only 5 volunteers each week are needed to help. A committee member will call you to remind you of your day.
