1 Trinity Peace Lutheran Parish November 2014 Throughout the year, I like to write little stories about some of the things that having been going on in the parish to put up on our parish website. (By the way, again, we do have a parish website now. Go to and take a look around. You'll find pictures, stories, copies of The Messenger, and a list of upcoming events.) In these stories, life in our parish is lifted up through stories and pictures of how we work together, worship together, and share fellowship together. This month I share with you one of those stories. While it may speak directly to an experience of Upper Beaver Creek Congregation, the points made can speak to how we all as Christians are called to live out our life of faith. Inside this issue Page 1 Pastor s Message 2 November Calendar 3 Worship Assistants Taylor Finance Report Council meetings 4 Parish 5 Taylor & Upper Beaver 6 TLC Special meeting Women of the ELCA 7 TLC & TV & UBC TLC WELCA Bake Sale 8 Kids Page 9 Pizza order forms 10 Mall of America Bus trip 11 Gifts and Memorials Parish office hours: Tuesday afternoon Friday all day Secretary home phone: Dawn Pastor office hours: Tuesday 1:00-3:00 Wednesday 9:30-12 Thursday 9:30-12 Friday 9:30-12 Early on a Thursday morning, the wonderful people of Upper Beaver Creek began rolling out the lefse like they do every year for their congregation's annual Fall Auction. They do this each year so that their doors can open up to the outside community to come in and support the mission and ministry of the church through the auctioning off of baked goods, crafts, canned goods, nice little gifts for the upcoming holiday season, and of course the lefse. The money raised from this auction goes directly to the mission and ministry of this church. Yes it does fund heating for this little country church, but by taking care of our heating costs, it frees us to engage in the ministry that goes on in and around our community. It helps this congregation be a place where the grieving are comforted. It helps this congregation be a place where children are welcomed with warm, open arms into the grace bestowed upon us by God in our baptisms. It helps this congregation be a place where all our children, young AND old, are educated in their faith. It helps this congregation be a place where others are cared for in all of their needs. The flour that ends up covering our hands, clothes, counters and tables during the process of rolling lefse becomes itself a symbol of the hope that floats in the air blessing what we do together. The teamwork it takes to make this lefse is a testament to the community that God has drawn together over the many years in this part of Wisconsin and all over the whole world. For the Holy Spirit works in us not to give us reward for pleasing God, but so that we can come together to be a witness to the Good News of God's grace that calls us to care for one another. Peace, Pastor Ben 1

It also reminds us of how the church year (not unlike the secular calendar) flows from season to season and moves smoothly from Christ the King Sunday (the culmination of the liturgical calendar) to the First Sunday of Advent (a new beginning). Indeed, the One who rules all is the same One whose first and final comings we anticipate anew during Advent. 3
