PENITENCE People: People: People: People: 3 Jesus, like a loving parent you gather your people to you; you are gentle with us as a mother or father is with their children. Gather your little ones to you, O God, as a hen gathers her chicks to protect them. Often we do not treat others as you would like. We are sometimes mean to those we love. Gather your little ones to you, O God, as a hen gathers her chicks to protect them. But like a loving parent you comfort us when we are not feeling well. You do this by sending people to help us. Gather your little ones to you, O God, as a hen gathers her chicks to protect them. Thank you for loving us and forgiving us when we do bad things. Gather your little ones to you, O God, as a hen gathers her chicks to protect them. PWM (Silent prayers of Confession) All(singing): Jesus loves me! This I know, As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, Let them come to Me.

6 Refrain: The Bible tells me so. 4 PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION 5 WORD SERMON TEXT Luke 18:15-17 (Congregation Stands) All: CHOIR ANTHEM Let us say again what it is that we believe. We believe in God. We believe that God created all that is around us even though we don t always understand how God did it.we believe that God has a son named Jesus who lived 2000 years ago with his family and friends. We believe that Jesus was a teacher and taught people how to be nice to each, to love each other and to pray to God in heaven. We believe Jesus went into heaven to be with his father. But Jesus is still around us. All we have to do is pray to Jesus and he will hear us. We believe that the church is made up of all kinds of people and God loves each and every one of us and wants us to love each other. As a church family we help others who may need help because that is what Jesus did. And that s what Jesus wants us to do. PWM (The congregation may be seated.) Yes, My Jesus Loves Me Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so Little ones to him belong; they are weak, but he is strong. Yes, my Jesus loves me! Jesus loves me! He who dies heaven s gates to open wide. Wash away my sin, let His little child come in. Yes my Jesus loves me! Jesus loves me, loves me still, tho I m very weak and ill; From His shining throne on high, comes to wash me where I lie. Yes, Jesus loves me, yes Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible, the Bible, the Bible tells me so. Jesus loves me, He will stay, close beside me all the way; If I love Him when I die He will take me home on high. Yes, my Jesus, yes, my Jesus, yes, my Jesus loves me! Yes, my Jesus loves me! Choral Response: Father, we love You, we worship and adore You; Glorify Thy name in all the earth. Glorify Thy name, glorify Thy name, Glorify Thy name in all the earth. (Congregation May Be Seated) SERMON (Congregation Stands) RESPONSIVE HYMN All(singing) I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, because I know 'tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do. I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seems than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams. I love to tell the story, it did so much for me; and that is just the reason I tell it now to thee. I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, for those who know it best seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest. And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song, 'twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long. I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love. 9 3 God s Family: Shalom One of the things that we will be talking about this year in Sunday School is GOD S FAMILY. During our summer VBS, the first day was dedicated to the importance of family in Jesus life and in our own lives. The concept of family then wove its way throughout the rest of our time together as we talked about family names, family homes, how families worship together, and how families serve others. At St. Paul s UCC, we understand the importance of families worshiping together. This year we will encourage family worship by holding Family Worship Services one Sunday each month starting on September 13th (Rally Day). These services will include an intergenerational sermon (promotes bonding with our pastors), simplified language, and music/readings/sharing by our children/families. In order to prepare for the worship service, the Sunday Schoolstudents will learn about a different part of the traditional worship service each month. For the September Family Worship service, the Sunday Schoolstudents learned about how we begin and end our time together as God s Family. Please encourage your child to practice the following discussed concepts: The importance of the Hebrew concept of Shalom, which means hello, good-bye, wholeness, and peace. The importance of greeting and bidding farewell to each other with eye contact, a kind word, and human touch(hand shake, high five, hug, hand on the shoulder) The concept of passing the peace The importance of shaking the pastor s hand when exiting the sanctuary in order to encourage student/pastor interaction.
