1 June 21, 2015 Camp Sunday WELCOME TO WORSHIP AT CHAPEL LANE! Growing a Faith That Must Be Shared WE GATHER TO WORSHIP * indicates when those who are able may stand 10:00 AM Welcome! We are glad you are here. As we gather for worship let us keep our conversations to a minimum and then use the time of the Prelude to prepare our hearts and minds for worship. After worship there will be time for conversation and fellowship. Prelude Welcome and Announcements Pastor Rhonda A warm welcome is extended to all, especially those who are worshipping at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church for the first time or who have returned after an absence. Your presence both enriches us and this time of celebration together. (Please sign the Fellowship Pad and use the prayer request cards for your joys or concerns.) Interlude Music and Lighting of the Christ Candle Call to Worship (Based on Psalm 33) Elizabeth Stuart Rejoice in the Lord, children of God. Rejoice, and sing to God a new song. For the word of the Lord is good and all God s work is done in faithfulness. The earth is full of God s love. By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made. God gathered the waters of the sea; then God spoke and all came to be, as God commanded. The Lord looks down from heaven; God sees all humankind. Let your love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Gathering Prayer Elizabeth Stuart Precious Lord, you are a good and gracious God who gives life, breath, joy and peace to all your children. As we gather this morning to worship you, we set aside other competing thoughts listen for your mighty voice thundering forth from the heavens with the good news of your loving presence. Be with us now as we praise your name and share your Word. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. * Gathering Song Let All Things Now Living #37 WE RENEW OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD Call to Confession Elizabeth Petrimoulx We strive to be strong and self-sufficient, but in truth we are in constant need of grace. In penitence and faith, let us confess our weakness to God and to one another. Prayer of Confession Most merciful God, forgive us. We imagine that we can live without you, when you give us our very breath. We seek control over others rather than strive to live in unity. We allow fear to overtake us, even though our lives are in your hands. Draw us back into your steadfast love and shape us into the likeness of your Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen. (Silent Prayer of Confession) Prayer Response Surely, It Is God Who Saves Me #71 Surely, it is God who saves me; I will trust and not be afraid. For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, and God will be my Savior. Assurance of Pardon Elizabeth Petrimoulx Sisters and brothers, the good news is this: grace is poured out like water; mercy flows like a never-ending stream, bathing us in goodness and love. Live, then, as those who have received new life, rejoicing in your baptism. Amen! * Response of Praise Jesus, Light of Joy #673 (vs. 1) Jesus, light of joy surround us, let your splendid glory shine; Source of every earthly blessing, heaven s everlasting sign. Alleluia! Alleluia! We adore you, light divine. WE OPEN OUR HEARTS TO GOD S WORD Prayer for Illumination Chris Chung God of eternity, by the power of your Spirit, speak your Word to us this day, that hearing, we may know your truth and live ever more faithfully for you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. First Lesson Genesis 9:6-22 Erica Clark Response: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Responsive Reading (Based on Psalm 136) Travis Irving Girls/Women: O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good; for God s steadfast love endures forever;
2 Boys/Men: Who alone does great wonders, for God s steadfast love endures forever; Girls/Women: Who, just by thinking, made the heavens and spread out the earth on the waters. Boys/Men: Who made the great lights, the sun to rule over the day, and the moon and the stars to rule over the night. Girls/Women: O give thanks to the God of heaven, Boys/Men: For his steadfast love endures forever. Second Lesson Genesis 7:1-10 Pastor Rhonda Response: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Children s Sermon Bucket Brigade Camp Musical A Technicolor Promise see insert WE RESPOND TO GOD WITH JOY * Song of Response God of the Sparrow #22 *A Prayer for Father s Day and the Lord s Prayer Pastor Rhonda On this day, when we remember fathers, let us offer our prayers to God, who has adopted us as sons and daughters through the waters of baptism. O God, you formed your son Adam from the dust of the ground, and breathed your holy breath into his lungs, giving us all the gift of life; breathe again your Life into, us, your children and your Church, that we might be one with you. Lord of all, you formed great nations out of great families, and blessed the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that they might be a blessing to all. Bless our nation, and all the nations of the world, with your Paternal Presence, wisdom, and peace. As the children of Israel found themselves slaves, making bricks for Pharaoh, before you heard their cry and brought them to freedom, we pray for all in this world who are in trouble of any kind. We pray for the poor, the hungry, the imprisoned, the victims of war and all who live in terror s wake. Your Son, Jesus, was raised by Joseph the carpenter, who saw him grow year by year in strength and wisdom. We pray for all in our family of faith, and especially those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this week. Your Son, Jesus, neither married nor raised children of his own, but he helped countless people mature to fullness of life and to Life Everlasting; And so, we pray for all who nurture others with love, peace and patience, as spiritual parents. Jacob s son, Joseph, to whom he gave the radiant coat, was beaten, betrayed, and sold into a life of hardship before rising to greatness; And so, we pray for all who are injured, hurt, sick, lonely, or live in fear. Gracious God, as our blessed Creator, you gave us the gift of your own Son, and out of our human blindness the crowds called for him to die on a cross; And so we pray for the dying and the dead. Bring all your children home, precious Savior. Our Father, who dwells in Heaven, we pray for all fathers. Strengthen and bless fathers to be faithful, loving and present; and for those fathers who you have brought into your Kingdom ahead of their children, and children ahead of their fathers, enfold them with your Holy Light and enfold us with your comfort. Now and forever, Abba, we pray. (Intercessions) And now, let us offer up the prayer Jesus has taught us all, when praying, to say: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Offering of our Gifts Offertory *Offertory Response I Love You, Lord #627 I love you, Lord and I lift my voice to worship you; O my soul, rejoice. Take joy, my King, in what you hear, may it be a sweet, sweet sound to your ear.
3 *Prayer of Dedication of Our Offerings Pastor Rhonda We return to you, O God, the gifts you have given, that this offering, and the offering of our lives, might bear witness to the good news of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen. WE GO OUT AS GOD S PEOPLE *Sending Song Arky, Arky The Lord said to Noah, There s gonna be a floody floody The Lord said to Noah, There s gonna be a floody floody Get those children out of the muddy muddy, Children of the Lord. So, Noah he built him, He built him an Arky, Arky Noah he built him, He built him an Arky, Arky Built it out of gopher barky barky, Children of the Lord. He called for the animals, They came on by twosie twosies He called for the animals, They came on by twosie twosies Elephants and kangaroosie roosies, Children of the Lord. It rained and poured, For forty daysie daysies It rained and poured, For forty daysie daysies Nearly drove those animals crazy crazy, Children of the Lord. *Sharing the Peace of Christ Elizabeth Stuart In the storm, during the fire, despite the strong winds, The Spirit is steadfastly present. God brings a word of peace, gentle as a kiss, Therefore we will not fear. Responding to God s goodness and love, Let us go forth to share Jesus with the world. May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you, And also with you. *Postlude Music OUR WORSHIP IS ENDED, OUR SERVICE BEGINS! Questions for Reflection What do you make of the story of Noah? Is there something we can learn from this story? What do you make of God s technicolor promise never again to destroy the world by flood? How would you invite a friend to hear and learn the story of God s technicolor promise? The sun came out, And dried up the landy landy The sun came out, And dried up the landy landy Everything was fine and dandy dandy, Children of the Lord. The animals they came off, They came off by threesie threesies Animals they came off, They came off by threesie threesies Elephants and chimpanzeesies zeesies, Children of the Lord. So rise and shine, And give God the glory glory Rise and shine, And give God the glory glory Rise and shine and give God the glory glory, Children of the Lord. *Charge and Benediction Pastor Rhonda *Benediction Response Christ Is Alive #246 (vs. 4) Women and men, in age and youth, Can feel the Spirit, hear the call, And find the way, the life, the truth, Revealed in Jesus, freed for all.
