1 THE JOYFUL NOISE August 2012 Gut Punches By Jim Roynon In this world, we encounter a lot of gut punches..... financial woes, health problems, foreclosures, death of loved ones....that leaves us staggering, gasping for breath. I have most recently had one of those times. The cancer that I had overcome seven years ago, is back...and this time in more places in my body. It is a real gut punch....even though I knew something had to be wrong for several months. Yes, there were and are tears at times.... yet, there is also the very real and vivid presence of Christ... in the words and actions of His hands and feet...the community of Jesus Christ. What a joy to be part of the Northwest Ohio Emmaus Community, to be the recipient of Christ s peace and grace through the many who have dedicated themselves to serve Christ by serving others. As we encourage one another, as we build one another up, as we pray for one another, we become more like the One we serve. 2 Page 2 Joyful Noise August 2012 Election time is nearing For the NWO Emmaus Board of Directors It is time to be thinking ahead to the board of director elections that will be coming up this fall. There will be five openings on the board with the ending of the three year terms of those elected in If you have an interest in serving on the board, please contact any one of the current board members (listing located on page 3 of this newsletter). The board meets once per month for about an hour and a half and the commitment beyond that depends on the chair position you are assigned to. We attempt to place people in one of their top three choices, if at all possible. If you have any questions, please contact me, John Kaylor at kman@metalink.net or any one of the current board members. 4 Page 4 Joyful Noise August 2012 My Experience on the Emmaus Board God reminded me He doesn t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. By Rusty Coey School is almost ready to start, and Emmaus Board elections are just around the corner. I would like to take an opportunity to tell you about my experience over the years serving as part of the Board of Directors. My name is Rusty Coey, and for the last three years I have been serving as a member of the Emmaus Board. Some years prior to that, I also served as a member of the Chrysalis Board. I have held positions of Secretary/ Treasurer, Leadership, Chairperson, and Sponsorship. Though each of these positions is different, each and every position on the Board is important and necessary, and all have one thing in common, they allow us a chance to serve Christ and the community. When first asked to serve, I didn't think I was qualified to help lead a community of over 4,000 people. But God reminded me he doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called. Wow, how can you say no to that? By saying no, I felt I would basically be saying my God isn't big enough to help me through this situation. In addition to God's strength, upon election there were experienced people already in place to help me learn my responsibility. Yes the board is a three year term, and yes there are five walks annually, and yes there are board meetings once per month, but I consider that a small price to pay, considering what Christ gave up for me. So, in conclusion, if someone asks you be nominated for the Board, pray about it, pray about it, pray about it, and if you feel a calling to step out and say yes, don't pass up the opportunity.
