4 Stewardship Thoughts 15 7th graders and 10 8th graders who gathered for dinner and talked about the sacraments with Pastor Tim. High School Youth are preparing Lenten Dinner Feb. 24 and Confirmation classes on March 2! LENTEN DEVOTIONAL BOOKLETS Lenten Devotional Booklets are now available. This 2016 booklet is a collection of Psalms and prayers compiled and written by members of Christ Lutheran's Spiritual Life study group. A real blessing awaits you as you immerse yourself in the 41 Psalms selected for inclusion in this Lenten Devotional. And you won't want to miss the prayers from the heart of your sisters and brothers in response to these Psalms. Be sure to pick up your copy, available now in the Gathering Area. Being Available for Service In every church, there are people who continually rise to the occasion to get the work done. Although God calls each of us to follow and serve him, many of us are much more concerned about our own lives and goals than assisting in the Lord s work. If we focus on I, me, mine, and myself, we take care of number one to the exclusion of helping and serving. In our prayers, we should be asking God to grant us hearts that want to serve, and we should be asking him, What do you want to achieve through me today? Prayer: Lord, I acknowledge you as the source of all that I am and have. Grant me a serving and generous heart so that I am willing to use my time in ways that extends your kingdom. Help me to be a channel of your love to others. In Christ s name I pray. Amen. Blessings on your stewardship journey! Generous Reflections- Feb. 21 In Paul s letter to the Corinthians, he asked them to give to the distressed Christians in Jerusalem. Paul told them their participation in the offering to Jerusalem was a way to test the sincerity of [their] love (2 Corinthians 8:8). True charity and generosity can t be commanded. Paul wanted the Corinthians to prove their sincerity by giving selfishly and spontaneously. In the same way, we show our sincerity through our giving and by doing God s will. Share with God s people who are in need. Practice hospitality (Romans 12:13). By God s grace, we are empowered to give generously to those in need. In our giving, we demonstrate the love of Christ in our hearts. CLC Social Ministry and Mission February 2016 Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless. (Proverbs 31:8) The monthly emphases for February is Hilltop Neighborhood House. Hilltop Neighborhood House. February s emphasis is to provide monetary and volunteer support for Hilltop house. Hilltop House is located on a hill in a neighborhood west of Valparaiso University where social service needs are real for the families and children living there. Hilltop is able to provide, as a health care provider, Medicare and Hoosier Healthwise benefits to those in Porter County living below the poverty level (estimated to be 9000 children and 4000 women). A gift of $50 permits Hilltop to provide child care, health care, and community improvement activities within a child s own family setting (also, your contributions may qualify for Indiana s Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit). Our congregational financial goal for February is $2000 (a combination of this month s giving, a budgeted amount, and any Thrivent matching funds). Use your weekly worship service envelope and indicate Hilltop on the line marked Social Ministry with the amount you wish to give in addition to your regular giving. Thank you for your support of monthly social ministry needs CLC Social Ministry and Mission Committee. Social Ministry Committee members are Irene Adams, Claire Bartusch, Diana & Bill Iltzsche, Kathy Lundstrom, Faith Noe, Lisa Owen, Barbara Peat, Ed and Karen Seykowski, and Tim Sutherland.

Be sure these sheets are gently used with little pillage on the fabric surface. FITTED SHEETS ARE NOT AS SUITABLE FOR CUTTING INTO BLANKETS. NEEDED: Many eyes that can be looking for bargain prices for the Baby Care Kits items. Call me with tips to places and prices! I will check out the information given. NEEDED: Sleepers and onesies can be given or purchased for this project. We will cut off the feet of the sleepers so they can be worn longer; we will trim off the bottom of the onesies to turn them into shirts before these two clothing items are ready to be packed. Resale shops can be a great source for obtaining sleepers and onesies at reasonable prices. NEEDED: A note attached with any clothing items given indicating if they have been laundered. All gently used clothing is washed before we pack it so it is clean and good smelling. No stained items can be sent. NEEDED FOR FEBRUARY: Jackets, sweaters, and sweat shirts are urgently requested. So far this current LWR year we have packed 120 of these. Watch for any sale, discontinued, or reduced outer wear from three months to age two that could be used. We are identifying these afternoons as Workshops because we would like them to be hands-on. Questions are encouraged. We have asked the speakers to provide appropriate planning instruments so that participants can begin to take whatever steps necessary to prepare for their own passing. We are allowing approximately one hour for the workshop, and there will be a time of fellowship afterwards. If you have any questions, please contact Sue McPherson, , or suemcpherson626@hotmail.com VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! PLEASE SIGN UP IN THE EAST LINK!
