2 Today we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. Christ is no ordinary king but one who suffers and in the end dies for His people and so joins their suffering to His own. This king enables us to bear our hurts as he bore His. For this we only have to raise our eyes to the crucifix. Saint Ignatius paints a vivid picture of Christ the king in his Spiritual Exercises. [92] Therefore all those who want to come with me will have to be content with the same food as I, the same drink, the same clothing, etc, so that in this way they will afterwards share with me in the victory, as they have shared with me in the labours. We know in our heart that the leader we will follow will be the one who stands in the front and is the first to receive the blows. Such is Christ, our king. William Shakespeare jumps into the act. To be precise, we turn to Act IV of his play Henry V. On the morning of 25 October, 1415, feast of Saint Crispin, before the battle of Agincourt in France, Henry rouses his undermanned troops: He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, And say Tomorrow is Saint Crispin." Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars, And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day." And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition; And Gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here; And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day. Viva Cristo Rey! Free Childcare for Shoppers! There will be a FREE one-day daycare service held at MQP from 10AM-4:30PM on Saturday December 9, for those who need extra shopping time. We have a max capacity of 50 children, ages 2-10, MUST BE POTTY TRAINED PLEASE! The deadline to register is Monday December 1. This is first come first serve! Jessie.miller2016@gmail.com to register. Include how many children will be attending this event, their ages and names. There will be a flyer in church, please keep an eye out for it! The horizons of the Spirit God continues his mission, in our day and age, of inspiring believers to present the Gospel in creative ways that can bring people to a new understanding of faith and lead them to commit their lives to Jesus and his Church. Here is an example of how a young woman named Lexie is sharing her catholic faith with her contemporaries, using her blog thegenesisfeminist.com: Hello, welcome to my little slice of the internet. I m Lexie, a millennial, and a Catholic by choice. The Genesis Feminist is a blog devoted to embracing biblical femininity in a post-sexual revolution world. It is also my space to document my life lessons and varied interests. As a young black woman in America, I am told I should have certain political views and particular opinions on certain social issues. I tend to not fall into that should category and as a result, my blog doesn t either. I try to not let my demographics define me. I am a Catholic millennial that believes in Franciscan spirituality. That means I am working to live in greater harmony with my fellow man and with God s creation. Caring for animals, respecting the planet, and loving my body have challenged me to adopt a high protein vegan diet which compliments my spiritual journey for peace. Father Tom

What s Happening at KidsChurch November finds us saying: Thank You Lord! Our Object Lesson was entitled: Five Kernels: The Meaning Of Thanksgiving. The first winter the Pilgrims spent in America was very cold. Some days, all they had was enough for each person to have only five kernels of corn. When spring came, the Pilgrims planted their corn and it grew so they had a lot of food the next year. From then on, at Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims each kept five kernels of corn at their plates to remind them of God's Blessings. (The little ones each received five candy corns!) The First Kernel: Reminds us that God loves us. The Second Kernel : Reminds us that God provides for all our needs. The Third Kernel: Reminds us of the friends God has given us-just as the Native Americans were friends to the Pilgrims. The Fourth Kernel: Reminds us of all the people God has given us who love us. The Fifth Kernel: Reminds us that God hears our prayers and answers us. November 26th: Moses Meets God (God is always with us.) Dawn Pavlini, Director of KidsChurch Kidschurch@saintsmaryandjoseph.org Video for The Feast of Christ the King A VERY special thank you to David and Paul Carmichael, Eddie Scull, Jillian and Josh Tarara and Evan Woodard for creating the video used at all the Masses to illustrate and celebrate their understanding of the Feast of Christ the King!!! You people are AMAZING!!!! THANK YOU!!! Poverty is not an accident. It has causes that must be recognized and removed for the good of so many of our brothers and sisters. Follow POPE FRANCIS on Saint Joseph Regional Catholic School cordially invites you and your family to the following free, family, fun events in the newly renovated school auditorium. 4 Ministry Matters Eucharistic Ministers are men and women from our parish who are commissioned to take an active role in our Eucharistic celebrations by coming forward as bearers of the Body and Blood of Jesus. What a privilege it is to bring Jesus to others! Our parish is in need of additional Eucharistic Ministers. Please consider becoming a part of this important ministry. Contact Kay Barretto for more information about what the role involves and arrange for training. We are praying for one or two people to volunteer in the parish office from 9:00-12:30 or 12:30-4 PM, Monday through Thursday, answering the phone, interacting with office visitors, booking masses and helping staff with various other tasks. (You do not need to commit to all four days.) Previous office experience is appreciated, but not necessary. Computer skills are required. You can contact Kay Barretto at the parish office for both opportunities, and you will be asked to fill out a volunteer application. CHRISTMAS MUSIC FOR THE FAMILY The Interfaith Choir will present a program of Christmas music in Salem on Sunday, December 3 rd at 4pm, hosted by the United Methodist Church, 8 Pleasant St., with refreshments and fellowship to follow. Admission is free; donations accepted. The choir is composed of 50 musicians from several local churches including Sts. Mary and Joseph, and has been performing seasonal and inspirational music in the area for more than fifty years, spreading the Christmas message through song. The Kings Choir, a children s group, will be special guests this year. Come, sing and enjoy. Gina Garnier Food Pantry Requests We are unable to get the following items from the NH Food Bank. If you can share some of the following items with those less fortunate, please bring them to the office or to mass. Boxed potatoes Canned carrots Canned fruit Maple syrup Toiletries/toilet paper Jelly Pancake Mix Beef stew Jello/pudding Paper towels Jesus Matters! The yard signs have been delivered to the Parish and we're looking for families who would like to post one on their front lawn/yard. We'd like as many passersby as possible to see the signs so we would like the signs to be posted as close to the curb as possible. The signs are identical on both sides so those passing can see them from both directions. Those families who live on high traffic roads, we would love to have you post a sign first so that as many as possible can see the signs before the upcoming Christmas holiday. Call Deacon David at if you're open to posting a sign at your home. The Talk of a Lifetime The Bereavement Center will be hosting a new seminar that was developed by the National Funeral Directors Association called The Talk of a Lifetime. The purpose is to invite family members to discuss topics regarding how your loved one wants to be remembered, and their final wishes that often go unspoken. It will be open to all members of the parish. There will be take-home information available. Please watch the bulletin in the coming weeks for more information. Contact Rick Dewhirst at with questions. Christmas Caroler Coordinator(s) Needed Would you be willing to assist the parish to continue to bring Christmas caroling to the parishioners of Salem that are not able to leave their homes? We are looking for someone to coordinate this wonderful event. It could be a coordinated effort of 2 or 3 people that would team up to share this responsibility. The tasks for the coordinator(s) would include: Gathering of contact information, - requestor, i.e. phone, address, any special needs. Advertising to gather carolers that would go singing. Distributing the song books. Organizing of refreshments for post caroling. Contact Justine at the office if you are interested in helping out. Caroling to our home-bound You are invited to join the group, which will gather at 5:15 pm on Saturday, December 16th in the Family Room under St. Joseph church. Do you know of anyone who is unable to join us for liturgy, but might enjoy hearing some Christmas Carols? Call Justine at the office (ext.103) and give their name, address and phone number. She will add them to our caroling list. You can also visit the parish office, or drop a note in the collection basket.
