1 the October 2015 ViSiTOR A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF CHETEK & DOVRE LUTHERAN CHURCHES Vol. 3 Issue 10 COMINGS AND GOINGS BY PASTOR REDFIELD "The Lord will bless your going out and coming in from this time forth and forevermore." Psalm 121:8 We rejoice that Wendy Newman has come to be our Youth and Family Director starting October 5. Wendy has a great love for The Lord, and for young people and families. Let us pray for Wendy and our ministry with young people and families to grow in Christ! Coming Saturday, October 10, 11 am-3 pm, Annual Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner at Chetek. Good time for fellowship and good eatin. Not for Norwegians only, so spread the word. Ufda! Coming Sunday, November 1, 10:30 am, Confirmation Service at Chetek for Dovre and Chetek young people making their Confirmation Vows. Let us pray for our confirmands and families in this time of celebration of God s love in Christ! Thank you for prayers for my wife, Renee, recovering from eye surgery, who reflects: On Labor Day Weekend I had to have emergency surgery for a detached retina in my right eye. My left eye is impaired with cataracts so my vision has been a blur. It has been a challenge not being able to do the things I love to do, but know God is with me and in everything God works for good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. A friend asked if I m angry at God. No, because bad things happen to many people and God can use them for his glory. Andrae Crouch has written, In every situation, God gives blessed consolation, to let me know my trials will make me strong. Through it all, I ve learned to trust in Jesus, I ve learned to trust in God. In my time of recovery, I am grateful for the cards you have sent that Guy reads to me, meals, fresh produce, house cleaning, visits, encouragement, and prayers. Thank you for sharing your care and love in Christ. I am trusting The Lord to bring healing as I touch the hem of his garment and am thankful for the doctors God has gifted to help the healing. The prophet Isaiah writes, Those who hope in The Lord will renew their strength. 2 Page 2 Wendy Newman.a little about me I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the ministry team at Chetek Lutheran and Dovre Lutheran. I m from Montana and love small town life. I attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a Biology major and Business minor. While in college I discovered a special place, Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp, and the joy of being a camp counselor. For six summers I had the privilege of talking with youth about God s word and their faith while out enjoying His beautiful creation. I ve had a variety of employment experiences and the common thread has been youth and children. My first job out of college was a Youth and Family position at a Lutheran church in Iowa before I returned to Concordia College and worked with high school youth during their college search. After a summer at camp I staying in Kalispell, MT and ran an after school program and summer day camp program at The Summit, a medical fitness center. When we had an opportunity to move to a warmer climate in South Carolina, I worked as a Library Assistant in the Children s Department at the main branch of the county library. Since moving to Wisconsin I have worked part-time at Luther Park as the Retreat Coordinator and will continue in this position in addition to my job at Chetek Lutheran and Dovre Lutheran. My husband Keith is the Director of Luther Park Bible Camp and our daughter Marissa is a 3 rd grader and the unofficial camp host and greeter! We also have a sweet Newfoundland, Abby, and a slightly ornery cat, Bear, to round out our family. I am a member of the PTO at Roselawn and enjoy co-leading a Brownie Scout troop. I am looking forward to meeting youth and families and working in partnership with you. Youth and Family Ministry Open Forums In October there will be three different opportunities for members of Chetek Lutheran and Dovre Lutheran to share their thoughts and ideas on strengthening and expanding youth and family ministry opportunities. Parents, grandparents, congregational members and youth are encouraged to attend! Open Forum Times: Sunday, October 11 Dovre Lutheran 11:00 am following worship Wednesday, October 21 Chetek Lutheran 7:00 pm following worship Sunday, October 25 Chetek Lutheran 9:30 am following worship

Construction Job to be performed by Boy Scout Troop 29 & led by Kyle Pierce Kyle Pierce has planned and will implement a project next door at our outdoor worship facilities. Kyle s plan increases handicap accessibility to the outdoor worship area by installing concrete and rebar in the areas that currently have pea gravel. Our outdoor worship area, park and playground area is used frequently. Kyle created and presented the project to our church council. Chetek Lutheran s Church council has approved it. $2,100 is needed to complete the project. Kyle has the manpower so let s give a hand funding this important project. This project will fulfill Kyle s requirements for his Eagle Scout project. Kyle is currently 14 years old so this is an awesome accomplishment. Donations can be made to Chetek Lutheran. Please write in the memo line: Concrete Project.

Motion made by Wayne, seconded by Gail to accept the Minutes. Passed. Treasurer's Report reviewed. Cathy will be gone for a month this Fall. She will give the check book to Arlene to pay the bills. Thanks to Wayne and Connie Olson for donating their propane gas to Dovre. The gas tank is not moved yet. Wayne said gravel will be poured outside the Cemetery for the truck to drive on to refill the gas tank so there will be no need to drive on the new sidewalk. New Business: The Youth and Family position is filled---wendy Newman has been hired. She has a lot of experience with Bible camps and is enthusiastic with many ideas. Organists: Will be Rita (1 st Sunday), Connie (2 nd Sunday), Mary (3 rd Sunday) and David (4 th and 5 th Sunday). Tina will see to it that a Sunday will be filled if necessary or let Lynda or Connie Olson know. Mary Johnson's father died; the Council will send a $50 memorial to the family. Motion made by Lynda, seconded by Gail to give $50 to Warner family. Motion passed. We will get a card and the congregation will sign it. Discussion of who is responsible for paying pastors who fill in for Pastor Redfield. We agreed Chetek will take care of the payment, as it's part of the Dovre-Chetek Agreement. Dovre prefers to pass the peace toward the end of the service as we usually do. It will be changed in the bulletin. Harvest Dinner: October 4 th, the WELCA is having a potluck style meal. We need volunteers to bring the boxed quilts, etc. to Rice Lake. Bob and Lynda Rogers will bring them on Oct. 10 th. Constitution Revision: Bob Rogers, Connie Olson and Karin Jorstad are on the committee. Karin will contact Bob and Connie about a meeting time. The changes made should be brought to the congregation before the Annual Meeting so it's taken care of. Revision will include allowing Council members to succeed themselves. Cemetery Mowers: Allan Ranney, Gary Nielsen, Wayne Olson, Dave Lund and John Jorstad give of their time to mow and trim the Cemetery regularly. Wayne suggested a Thank You card and dinner out or an acknowledgment at the Annual Meeting is in order. Sidewalk: Paul asked about sidewalk sealing and salt for the winter. It is sealed. Furnace: Paul will contact Geissler Heating in Bloomer and have him check the furnace; it didn't seem to be keeping up with heating last winter. Also, the heater under the Cemetery Directory doesn't work. He will ask Kevin Ranney to take a look at it. Snowplowing: Paul will continue to snowplow the parking lot but should have a backup in case his truck breaks down. Also we need to plow along the fence line for the LP truck this winter. Next Meeting: will be October 18 th at 8:45 a.m. Motion made by Gail to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m. Minutes respectfully submitted by Karin Jorstad, Secretary
