By taking the time to change and wear clothing different from what we wear to a ballgame or the supermarket, we remind ourselves that we re gathering on Sunday for something more important, namely, to offer the unbloody sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. Kindly refrain from wearing shorts, tank tops, bare midriffs, flip -flops, bathing suits and other beach clothing, T-shirts with inappropriate images or sayings, or any similar apparel. 7 St. Ann s Parish 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 12, 2015 Several parishioners have asked me if I would publish in the bulletin some information to help them explain to others why we are not in support of the Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states, why we are not being hate-filled and discriminatory toward gay people, and why for any Christian to support this decision represents a rejection of God s sovereignty over moral issues. Space in the bulletin does not permit me to present everything here. I do, however, have everything spelled out on my blog, so if you d like this information, just visit my blog. On a successful note, I d like to share with you the story of the baptism of Osaivbie Andrea Otakponmwenhi that Fr. James performed at the 10:00 AM Mass on June 28 th. Osaivbie s parents, Andrew and Emmanuela were told that Emmanuela's heart test showed her heart was not pumping adequately to allow her to give birth to her unborn baby girl; she was four months pregnant at the time. 13 doctors at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC sat down together with Andrew and Emmanuela in a conference room to urge them to abort the baby. The couple did not want to do this and was referred to Tony Felicissimo and the Advocates of Life to help. A pro-life doctor referred them to another OB-GYN in White Plains who after consulting with the couple also urged them to abort. The pro-life doctor who did the referral said that the OB GYN did not recommend abortion often and so there must be something about Emmanuela's health that we do not know about. The OB GYN eventually decided to send Emmanuela to a cardiologist at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla who, after examining her, told her that she would be fine and that there would be no problems if she gave birth. Throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy Emmanuela NEVER HAD A PROBLEM and she gave birth with no health problems whatsoever. She and the baby are completely healthy! On June 28 th Osaivbie was baptized by Fr. James, with Anthony Felicissimo serving as Godfather. In addition to Anthony Felicissimo, I am grateful to the Santoro family for their spiritual assistance to Andrew and Emmanuela. One of the things I appreciate the most about the Advocates of Life is that they don t just talk about how abortion is wrong; they go out and do things to make a difference. You have supported the Advocates of Life every year in their baby bottle drive, and I hope you feel good that you played a part as well in saving this baby s life. God will reward everyone who helped save a child. Plight of Christians Around the World The plight of Christians around the world, especially in the Middle East, has become a major catastrophe. Massive numbers of Christians are being subjected to violence, displacement, and even death, explicitly because of their faith. Yet there is little attention being paid in the West, and few governments are saying anything in response. However far away, we are still impacted by the sufferings of our fellow Christians; we are all one human family. Catholic social teaching calls us to stand in solidarity. The Middle East is the birthplace of Christianity; it is the land of Jesus life, death, and resurrection. It s time to take action!
