We are happy to receive any contributions of nonperishable food; however, we wanted to share our specific need for: cans of pineapple, cans of corn or peas, rice beans, boxes of mashed potatoes, cans or packets of gravy, spaghetti sauce (cans or plastic jars), pasta, mayonnaise and Easter desserts (ie. Candy, Packaged Cookies). Please No Glass Jars! We are also accepting monetary donations to help defray the cost of the hams we hope to give each family for their Easter meal. The collection of food will be now through the weekend of March 24 th - 25 th. We pray that God will reward your generosity abundantly! Adoption - Children in China need homes. 7 St. Ann s Parish 5th Sunday of Lent March 18, 2018 One of the requests I received from parishioners when I first became your pastor was to make Fr. Anthony Hall available for rentals. We needed to spruce up the hall a bit but we did, and we made the hall available for private parties. This has been a source of income for us, and I was also hoping it would be a means to bring people into contact with St. Ann s and with the Church. I installed a literature rack where spiritual materials are available for them. At first things were going very well. But lately we ve had a long run of problematic rentals including a lot of damage to the hall. They have trashed the grounds, left beer bottles all over the church property as well as the neighbors houses. They have played music at excessively loud levels and made such a racket in the street that the police were called in. I attempted to remedy the situation by having a policy monitor on site for every party, but the monitor isn t there when they set up. One rental broke the handle off the refrigerator. Another took the pictures off the wall and broke the frames. One DJ unplugged the refrigerator on the stage to plug in his equipment and all the food defrosted. Another decided they needed more room than the refrigerator in the kitchen provided, so they took all our hospitality and ChristLife food out of the refrigerator in the stage and put it in the freezer. When we came in the next morning to set up for hospitality all the milk, etc. was frozen. Another rental took down the crucifix and left it on the floor of the stage. I purchased ten round tables to use for ChristLife, and only two years later six of them were ruined and had to be thrown out. One party left a dog in the hall overnight. But the best of all was the recent 1 st birthday party for a child where they set up a petting zoo inside the hall including two goats, a sheep, and a pony! The next morning we had a bake sale for the school and the hall smelled like a barnyard! (You can t make this stuff up!) Of course, we take a $100 damage/cleanup deposit which we return if everything is fine, but when we have to withhold it they get angry and abusive. It hasn t brought anyone back to the faith, and lately the income has not been worth the aggravation. Finally, after consultation with the Parish Council, we have decided that rentals of Fr. Anthony Hall will be restricted to parishioners of St. Ann s Parish. It s sad that we had to go this route, but I have to make sure Fr. Anthony Hall is properly maintained for the use of our parish groups who meet here.
