As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time on and forevermore. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous might not stretch out their hands to do wrong. Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts. But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways the LORD will lead away with evildoers. We confess that we do not hold fast to your sacred word, but we accommodate your teaching to suit ourselves. We shy away from your truth when it seems to demand too much of us. Forgive us, O God, and hold us back from our evil ways, so that we may learn to keep your word and your teachings. Renew us in your ways, forgive our lack of care for the oppressed and the other, and remember our sins no more.

The Out-Reach Committee would like you to know that the Menaul School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is collecting General Mills Box Tops for Education. This program helps them "buy" classroom supplies. Please put your Box Tops in the Best Choice collection box in the church office Per Capita. Our per capita is $32.00 per member for This money goes to offset the administrative cost for the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly which supports Presbyterian programs, missions, and ministries. COFFEE HOSTS NEEDED Please sign up on the chart by the Family Life Center doors. SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 Sunday School for all ages began Sunday, September 9th. Youth classes meet at 9:30 am to 10:15 am. Adult classes meet at 9:15 am to 10:00 am. Join Us! MARTHA CIRCLE BIBLE STUDY We are open to all women and our theme this year is God s Promise: I am With You. Books are available in the office for $10 each. We are working with the School Emergency Fund. They are looking for donated children and youth sizes of clothing without logos and pictures. They need sweat pants, socks, underwear, t-shirts, and all types of hygiene items and toiletries. The four person scramble will have a 10:00 am shotgun start with registration beginning at 9 am. Entry fee includes 18 holes, lunch and cart rental. Sharon Rees represented the Presbytery of Central Nebraska at the biennial meeting of the General Assembly in St. Louis, MO in June. SEPTEMBER MINISTRY OF COMPASSION KEARNEY PUBLIC SHOOLS EMERGENCY FUND The Ministry of Compassion in September is the School Emergency Fund for our schools. The purpose of this fund is for the school personnel to provide clothing and hygiene items as needed for school students of all ages. Your generosity enables us to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we reach out to those in need in our schools. The fund s immediate needs are: Socks (all sizes) Plain t-shirts (no picture or logo) Underwear Feminine hygiene products Sweat pants/shorts Cash for lice kits Toiletry items (bars of soap, lotion, tooth paste and brushes, shampoo/ conditioner) Many thanks for your thoughtfulness and generosity. REJOICING SPIRIT SERVICE Sunday, September 16-3:00 PM - Family Life Center Rejoicing Spirit Service is an inclusive worship service adapted to meet the needs of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities! Participants come from a variety of community churches while First Presbyterian hosts this monthly worship for the summer. Although the Rejoicing Spirits service is adapted to more readily engage people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it remains inspiring and meaningful to everyone who attends. John Gosswein at pr.john.foc@gmail.com or call the Family of Christ Lutheran Church office at ELMER HOLZRICHTER ARTWORK First Presbyterian Church has received a gift of works of art by Elmer Holzrichter. Margaret, Eric and the entire Holzrichter family have made this remarkable gift possible and the church gratefully thanks them for their efforts. The gift includes seven banners and two cut letter collages. The two largest banners and four of the smaller banners have been hung in the Sanctuary in a way that simulates the large stained glass windows of old cathedral churches. Another banner and the collages are hung in the small conference room adjacent to the main office. These artworks add significantly to the spiritual aesthetic of our building and we hope all members will enjoy them for many years to come.
