All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send? THE WORD Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord? I have hear You calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have bourne my people s pain. I have wept for them, they turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak My word to them, Who shall I send? Here I am Lord Prayer for Illumination Let us pray. God of mercy, grant that the Word you speak this day may take root in our hearts, and bear fruit to your honor and glory, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. First Reading Habakkuk 2:18-20 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Psalm Psalm 39:1-6, O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
3 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! I try to count them they are more than the sand; I come to the end I am still with you. Second Reading I Corinthians 6:19-20 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Sermon "TEMPLE" *HYMN Sacred the Body No. 27 RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBER Sarah Traylor AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Study Catechism Q. 13. When you confess the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ are you elevating men over women and endorsing male domination? A. No. Human power and authority are trustworthy only as they reflect God s mercy and kindness, not abusive patterns of domination. As Jesus taught his disciples, The greatest among you will be my servant. God the Father sets the standard by which all misuses of power are exposed and condemned. Call no one your father on earth, said Jesus, for you have one Father the one in heaven. In fact, God calls women and men to all ministries of the church. Gal. 3:28; Eph. 5:21 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Choral Response Amen C. O. Beck TITHES AND OFFERINGS Offertory Cantique Flor Peeters *Presentation God, We Honor You No. 709 *Dedication Prayer Let us pray: In the name and in the spirit of Jesus, we bring our gifts to you, O God. Help us to give with them a ready mind, a willing spirit, and a joyful heart. Amen. *HYMN In Christ There Is No East or West No. 317 *BLESSING

The new study is called Simple Devotion by Judy Brower. The study is described as: There are seven challenges common to most women. Hindrances. Roadblocks. Emotional strongholds. Spiritual hurdles that we minimize, avoid, or overtly fear. If we will take courage to face them, to stare them down, to bring them to Jesus, He will give us freedom. He will give us life. He will invite us into a truly simple version of devotion never imagined. The companion workbook prompts anyone seeking freedom from women s seven most common heart-hindrances to intimacy with Jesus. This is your invitation to press through an authentic process inviting you on a journey toward a simpler devotion. MEN S BIBLE STUDY The Men s Morning Bible Study meets every Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. After a light breakfast, we study and discuss the Bible passages and the study questions listed in the study guide. We try to finish by 8:00 a.m. so that those who are still working may join us as well. All men of the church are welcome to attend!! 5 SCOTTISH HERITAGE SUNDAY SUNDAY, JANUARY 25TH A wee bit o Scotland will be returning to First Presbyterian Church in Kearney on January 25 in the form of a Kirkin of the Tartans worship service. We will celebrate our Scottish heritage as Presbyterians with Scottish music, a bagpiper, a beadle, Scottish attire, and following the service, a Ceilidh (a Scottish happening) with shortbread in the Family Life Center. The Kirkin of the Tartan service originated in the United States during the 1940s and was instituted by Peter Marsahll, minister of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C. Dr. Marshall began the ceremony as a special offering to aid Scots who were suffering the ravages of World War II. The presentation of the tartans symbolized the rededication of one s life to God s service, and affirms the Scottish roots of our Presbyterian heritage. Scots are asked to bring a piece of their clan tartan to be blessed. Those who are not Scots, please bring a swatch or token that represents your family to participate in the blessing. Whatever your heritage, however, all people are encouraged to come and celebrate our roots as a Presbyterian family of faith. Wear something plaid, if you are able. Bring your friends that are Scottish or Scots by contagion. Local Kearney leaders will be joining us as honored guests and their work in the community will be blessed to the glory of God. Invite your friends to join us in worship! PRIME OF LIFE Prime of Life Group does not meet in January so the next meeting is Sunday, February 15 at 6:00 pm. CONSIDER BECOMING A CASA VOLUNTEER CASA volunteers donate their time to act as the independent eyes and ears of the court, investigate in the field, and speak solely in the interest of the child. Volunteer Training is scheduled to start the 2nd of February 2015! The training consists of speakers from the community, curriculum set by National CASA, videos, hands on case training on a mock case and lots of question and answer time. CASA programs in Nebraska operate in compliance with the Nebraska Court Appointed Special Advocate Act (Nebraska Revised Statutes et seq). The CASA training will be held in Kearney during the evenings and one Saturday to get to the 30 hours required. In surveys, Judges find CASA volunteers to be very effective in a wide range of activities that support the court process. They find volunteers most effective in considering the best interests of the child and in monitoring the case. Volunteer input is most highly valued on issues related to placement, stability, permanence and safety of the children while in care. To volunteer call 308/ ext. 115.
