1 THE HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Love, then is a form of work or a form of courage. Specifically, it is a work or courage directed toward the nurture of our own or another s spiritual growth. We may work or exert courage in directions other than toward spiritual growth, and for this reason all work and all courage is not love. But since it requires the extension of ourselves, love is always either work or courage. If an act is not one of work or courage, then it is not an act of love. There are no exceptions. -M. 2 Welcome House of Hope welcomes all who worship here today. Our caring and active community welcomes you. We extend the hospitality of Christ to all who gather here. Today s Worship Our regular Sunday Worship time is 10 a.m., followed by refreshments, fellowship, and educational opportunities. If you have any questions, our greeters or ushers will be glad to help you. We invite you to join us for refreshments, including fair trade coffee, served in the Kirk Parlour following the service. Professional childcare is provided for infants through age 3 from 9:30 a.m. 11:15 a.m. in the East Wing. Infants and Toddlers Room 8 PreK through Rising 6th graders are invited to the East Wing after the Time for Children. Large print hymnals and bulletins are available from ushers. Hearing devices can be signed out from the table in the Narthex. Ushers are available for assistance. Please return the hearing device after worship. Live broadcasts and audio versions of worship services are available at hohchurch.org. Copies of past sermons are available at the church s Welcome Centers and in the rack across from the Assembly Room. The single candle near the pulpit is our Peace Candle, lighted each day as a reminder of the ongoing need for our prayers for peace in our world. The yellow Pastoral Concerns cards provide a way to alert the staff to the pastoral care needs of the congregation. Please use them, and place them in the offering plate or give them to a minister. This is a way to keep us informed about the life of our members. If you would like a pastor to call on you in the hospital, or if you are ill at home and would like a visit, please call the church office at (651) , to let us know. 6 Affirmation of Faith from the Confession of Belhar (unison) We believe that Christ s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the community of believers who have been reconciled with God and with one another; that unity is, therefore, both a gift and an obligation for the church of Jesus Christ; that through the working of God s Spirit it is a binding force, yet simultaneously a reality which must be earnestly pursued and sought: one which the people of God must continually be built up to attain; that this unity must become visible so that the world may believe that separation, enmity and hatred between people and groups is sin which Christ has already conquered, and accordingly that anything which threatens this unity may have no place in the church and must be resisted. Designed by Harlan Boss and executed by Amerigo J. Brioschi of the St. Paul Statuary Company. An inscription wraps around the base of the fountain that reads: He shall lead them to fountains of living water. Several stained glass windows are visible behind the the fountain.
