3 Dear Sisters and Brothers, 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time As I mentioned to you last weekend, we had a very successful visit with Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez. His humble presence, his directness, his wisdom, and his holiness were felt and perceived by all. He was joyful, wise and interesting in his message delivery, encouraging the faith, family, parish community values and role in adapting to the challenges of today's life. Before, during and after Mass he met with all who aspired to meet him. He was warm and cordial in his approach to everyone. He was concerned with the reality of gang violence that Long Island had experienced, and he prayed with sincerity for the victims and their family's. Similarly our Bishops: Barres, Perez and Brennan were very supportive and kind in every way, enjoying his visit and offering their help and support. The entire visit was taken very seriously by the Police Department who were very much present and prepared to take care of any challenge. The Cardinal met with them, and they were very appreciative of his presence as well. All of that happened with the great help and support from many of you. Most of all I want to thank Marge Baum our Pastoral Associate for coordinating all efforts with the Diocese and literally watching it on the ground as it was happening, coordinating all issues that would pop up. I want to thank everyone for all the different services that you helped with: from the church cleaning and decorating, to outside maintenance and parking control, for music and ushers, for our youth and young adults, who helped with security and crowd control, for reception management and food service. I want to thank the members of our Pastoral Staff for giving of their time and talents. I want to thank the Knights of Columbus for being there with their Honor Guard which made the ceremony more solemn and respectful. Thank You All for helping and serving! We need to continue with the attitude of doing things together as a family, as if it were our own house, in welcoming others, because it is in a sense your house. I hope I am giving you that sense of belonging since definitely the Parish is my home too, but it is not my property, as it is yours. If you feel at any time, that I am coming off as if I am bossing you around, or that I am bossing others around too much, please feel free to tell me that, so I may be considerate of your feelings and those around you, so that we all may feel this is our place, our space, our church. It is my job as your Pastor, to be your leader, in a sense your "father", so as a father, may be trying to offer guidance, be prepared as well, to take my observations and criticism or frequent requests for help, its part of my job as well. It all comes down to the question Jesus asked in the Gospel of today: Who do you say that I am? That question is directed to each and everyone of us today. Who Jesus is for me? That question is going to generate an answer of words and answers of actions. Words can be empty, actions speak louder and more clearly. Both are important, but actions are an ultimate response. They show our definitive stand and commitment to God and to each other. " You are the Christ, the Son of the living God is Peters response. Than Jesus makes his statement about who Peter is to him : You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it ". It is an interesting revelation both ways, and we know how much credit Jesus was giving to Peter - it is much before betrayal- and how much Jesus was giving to the Church making the promise that he made, the promise that is so important to us today and always when the world seemed to be in turmoil, and the Church seemed to be overpowered by evil and political wars and corruption. It's great to have Jesus extend himself and being so generous and merciful with Peter and with us. "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven ". What a great promises and power given to Peter and the Church! What authority! Will we be able to comprehend all that Jesus meant, and the extent of those promises? Let's go back to where it started: Who do you say that Jesus is? How it affect your words and actions? How it affects your life? Think how it changed Peters life from a weak broken man into " the rock. Are you the rock yet? Or are you the Peter before the time of becoming the rock.? This can be answered only by everyone personally. What a great dialogue Peter had, and what a great contribution Jesus makes to it. Let's be attentive to what Jesus will tell us who we are according to him, when we tell him who he is to us. What a great conversation! Do you know yet who you are for Jesus? If not, make sure you tell him who He is to you, to provoke his response, if you want to know. Have a great week!!!! God bless everyone!!! God bless America!!! Fr. To show our appreciation for all he has helped us with this summer, a portion of our second collection this weekend, will be given to him, to use in his mission work in his home country. We love you Fr. Milciades and look forward to your return to St. Anne s next year.

8 OUR PANTRY SHELVES ARE AT A DANGEROUS LOW AT THIS TIME. MORE AND MORE FAMILIES ARE DEPENDING UPON YOUR GENEROUSITY! PLEASE HELP IN ANYWAY YOU CAN TO FILL THESE SHELVES ONCE AGAIN. The generosity of the parishioners of St. Anne Parish allows us to reach out to people in our Brentwood/Bay Shore neighborhood who struggle every day to make ends meet. Our pantry shelves are very sparsely filled. If each parishioner brought in one nonperishable food item, it would help us to feed the hungry in our community. Thank you to all who donate to our food pantry. During July 2017, we were happy to assist 142 families, 28 seniors, 201 adults and 160 children. We also helped 11 new families. Here are some items our pantry needs this month: soup, Goya beans, cereal, jelly, juices, pasta, sauce, rice, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving cream, disposable razors, diapers (size 4 & 5), baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, pet food and laundry detergent. We are requesting school supplies for the school year The supply list is always very extensive: composition notebooks, #2 Ticonderoga pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, crayons, glue, glue sticks, Fiscar scissors, highlighters, dry erase markers, thin washable markers, rulers, 3x5 ruled index cards, pencil cases, 1 and 2 binders, loose leaf paper, 2-pocket folders (laminated or plastic), lunch bags and backpacks. No Spiral Notebooks. Any donated school supply item is gratefully appreciated. There are boxes in our church near the statue of St. Anne for you to drop off your donated items.
