3 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Sisters and Brothers, Happy Thanksgiving to all and to everyone!!! It s hard to believe we are already at Thanksgiving week. November came fast and it is going to pass fast with the business of Thanksgiving. Historically we know, that the feast was inspired by the immigrants to the new world as early as beginning of 1600 referring to the harvest festival, than over the time it grew into the National Feast. Those historical developments took place in different states and times, but eventually the First National Proclamation of Thanksgiving was given by the Continental Congress in There is much to the American history that is intertwined with the history of Thanksgiving Day. Today I want to ask everyone to be more personal about their Thanksgiving, not so much as a National Holiday, but as a personal attitude towards everyday life. Yearly feast reminds us of the necessity to be grateful for all the blessings, but if we are able to make it a daily practice it is going to enrich our everyday lives. What are you grateful for Today??? There is a true story of a young man who daily was trying to come up with three reasons to be grateful. He was so particular about it, that he would put notes to himself on the door of his room or on the bathroom mirror, so that he would keep in mind those reasons. The young man was very gifted. Meeting a group of people in the classroom for the first time even if they were 25 /to say the number/, after they said their names he would remember the names of all. He was so smart, yet he was giving himself those reminders about being grateful TODAY for those three things. That awareness of being blessed permeated the life of the young man and radiated on others. The young man was deeply liked by everyone, he was a soul of the company wherever he was, very unselfish mindful of others. His happiness and love of life was contagious, his personality was making people at ease, his sense of humor was putting smiles on peoples faces. He was a happy person to the day when a car accident took his gift of life and replaced it with the gift of eternal life and happiness, for which the young 32 years old man was prepared already by being happy and grateful daily, not only on Thanksgiving Day. For Andres, Thanksgiving Day was everyday, and that awareness made him the happy person that he was.. He was able to make others happy, because it was easy for him to see potential in others as he was aware of the potential that the Lord placed in him. With his short life he touched many lives through his positive, happy, grateful attitude with which he faced everyday. What are you grateful for Today??? Tomorrow??? Day after Tomorrow??? Etc... Do you want to be happy today??? Start to be grateful now!!! Do you want to be happy everyday???? Be grateful everyday!!! It is not the turkey that brings happiness on Thanksgiving Day, but the sentiment of appreciation of who we are, and the sense how blessed and loved we are by others and by God. Last Sunday readings spoke to us about wisdom of life, about being prepared for the Lord. This Sunday they speak about going further in that preparation, first by being blessed in life by finding a good wife as a companion for life, than by fearing the Lord and serving him by living good life, using ones talents for the benefit of God s Kingdom. It is not so much by waiting for the Lord that we are saved, but by serving the Lord in whatever way we can. Life is about being a person that is committed to welcoming people and Christ into our lives, so that we may be welcomed by God when our life is done. Our life can t be just selfish walking in circles around ourselves, but constant reaching out to others and to God in deeds and prayers, so that they reach out to us when our pilgrimage is done by inviting us to heaven out of the place of rest. 6 The generosity of the parishioners of St. Anne Parish allows us to reach out to people in our Brentwood/Bay Shore neighborhood who struggle every day to make ends meet. Thank you to all who donate to our food pantry. During October 2017, we were happy to assist 156 families, 37 seniors, 231 adults and 224 children. We also helped 17 new families. For Thanksgiving, we will be giving our regular pantry clients extra food for their Thanksgiving meal. If you would like to sponsor a family, please see the attached form. You can also call our outreach office if you have any questions ext We graciously accept any donated food items to help us during the season of giving. Toiletries are always appreciated by our clients. Here are the items most needed: toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving cream, disposable razors, diapers (size 4 & 5), baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, pet food and laundry detergent. There is a box in our church near the statue of St. Anne for you to drop off your donated items. Thank you for caring for the poor in our parish community. ANNE S PARISH SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION Baptism: For children under 5, please contact the Parish Office ( ) for an appointment to speak with a Priest or Deacon at least several weeks before the Baptism. For older children, contact the Office of Family Faith Formation ( ). First Holy Communion: Children usually begin Religious Education studies in the First Grade and are prepared for Communion in the Second Grade. Call the Family Faith Formation Office ( ) to register your child the summer before the school year begins. Confirmation: This Sacrament is currently celebrated in the Eighth Grade after 2 years of preparation. Please call the Religious Education Office ( ) for more information. SACRAMENTS OF HEALING Sacrament of the Sick: Call the Parish Office at any time to arrange for the Anointing of the Sick either at home or in the hospital. Reconciliation: The Sacrament is celebrated every Saturday from 4:00-4:45 PM in the Church or by appointment. SACRAMENTS OF VOCATION Marriage: Congratulations! Couples planning to marry should make an appointment with a Priest or Deacon at least eight (8) months in advance of the wedding to allow time for adequate preparation. Holy Orders: Is God calling you? Call a Priest or Deacon to discern a possible vocation to the Priesthood, Diaconate or the Religious life. Il a rendu stérile le don du roi; et le roi, simplement, tire la conclusion: il a pris le cadeau du roi comme un fardeau.
