4 PW putting together special supply kits for the Food Pantry. Food Pantry Project In September, PW provided 48 special supply kits to the Fairbury Food Pantry. Each kit contained shampoo, conditioner, soap, antibiotic ointment cream, antibiotic cream, band aids and Q-tips. These items were requested by Kathy Cook, director of the Food Pantry as items that her clients could really use. PW was happy to supply them! PW Fall Gathering Tuesday, November 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for the PW Fall Gathering on Tuesday, November 4th at 6:30 p.m. Food and fellowship will provided. Following a brief meeting and installation of new officers, we will work together to assemble school kits for delivery to Presbytery. PW Purpose Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study to support the mission of the church worldwide to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God s kingdom. They meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the Library. Wednesday Bible Study This group meets every Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. They are studying the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. John 3:16 This group of couples with children meets once a month for fellowship and study. Free childcare is provided. They are studying a video on marriage called Love & Respect. John 3:16 meeting date for October TBA Koinonia κοινωνία A faith, food, and fellowship class aimed at something s meets on the 1st Friday of the month. 6 Trunk or Treat Sunday, October 26th 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Trunk or Treat 2014 is coming up! If you are not familiar with Trunk or Treat, it is a community outreach event where we as a church provide a safe and fun environment for kids to go trick or treating. We fill our church parking lot with decorated car trunks filled with candy, and kids from the community are able to come and collect candy from each trunk. In addition to the trunks, we have a bouncy slide, fun games with prizes, and food. And it is all free! Trunk or Treat is a wonderful opportunity to connect with those in our community that may not have a church and share God s love with them. And it is lots of fun! This is one of our major evangelism efforts for the year, and so we ask that everyone participate in helping in one way or another. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex with a list of all the volunteer opportunities. Here are some of the ways you can help... Volunteer! It takes a lot of volunteer help to host a Trunk or Treat! We need help manning the games, serving food, and supervising the bouncy slide. We would also like a couple of people to work as car hops, to refill candy in the trunks or give those handing out candy a break. Provide Some Candy! If you can t make it to Trunk or Treat, you can help by providing a bag or two of candy. We will put out a plastic candy cauldron in the narthex to collect candy donations in October. Provide a Trunk! We need families to provide trunks. Providing a trunk involves bringing your car to the parking lot, decorating it, and providing two large bags of candy and someone to hand it out. The church will provide additional candy if you run out. Get the word out! Invite your family, friends, and neighbors! We can even send a postcard to anyone you want to invite. Simply contact the church office with contact information and they will take care of the rest. Help Set Up! We will meet on Friday, October 24th at 4:00 p.m. to decorate for Trunk or Treat. We will be putting together the goodie bags we give out to parents at that time as well. There are lots of sitting jobs that can be done!

8 The church office hours will be changing over the next few weeks due to a family emergency with our sitter. Office hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. These new office hours will be in effect until further notice. All Town Food Drive Sunday, November 16th Youth groups from various churches around town will be collecting items for the Food Pantry on the afternoon of Sunday, November 16th. If you wish to help, simply leave your donation on your front step and someone will pick it up. Blend A Cappella Gospel Sunday, November 16th Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 16th! Blend A Cappella Group is going to be leading our worship service that morning. Blend performs gospel in a 50 s doo-wop style. They have lead worship at the fairgrounds in the past, and they were a huge hit. Invite your friends and family for this special worship service! Fall Food Pantry Items On November 1st, the Deacons will put up their fall decorations. You are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to add to the display in the narthex throughout the month of November. The items will be donated to the Food Pantry on November 16th during the All Town Food Drive. The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. -Psalm 67:6 Sunday, November 2nd

Please help us fill the Food Pantry box with cereal this month. This is a very simple way that we as a congregation can make a very big impact on the lives of several families in the community as we reach out in love and serve in Christ s name. The Deacons thank you for your help with this project. Session Summary Session took the following action at the October 23, 2014 meeting which will affect the life and work of the church: Motion approved for Pastor time off October 6-12 for Continuing Education. Motion approved for Pastor Sunday away November 9th for the Lake Geneva Youth Retreat November 7, 8 & 9. Motion approved for Pastor time off January 14-20, 2015 for vacation. Motion approved for the use of the church by Deanna Pratt for Christmas Concert on November 29 with rehearsal on November 28. Motion approved for use of the church on April 18, 2015 for a concert through ISU. Motion approved to receive the 2015 Challenge Budget. Motion approved to ratify June 30, vote approval to give Jim Munz signature authority over all the church s investment accounts at any and all financial institutions. Motion approved to ratify July 25, vote approval to authorize the baptism of Kaley Anne Stuckey on Sunday, August 10, 2014 during worship service. Motion approved to resume regular worship time at 10:15 a.m. starting September 7, Motion approved for church use by the Prairie Youth Ensemble every Thursday 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. (unless there is a conflict on the church calendar). Liturgist & Fellowship Time Treats Volunteers Needed We are in need of volunteers willing to be liturgist, as well as providing treats for fellowship time for the next few weeks. There are sign-up sheets in the narthex if you are able to volunteer for either of these ministries.
