CORE STORIES OF THE BIBLE SERIES CONTINUES TODAY for students of all ages. In worship at 10am, children's Sunday School at 10:15, adult education at 11:30 in Beckwith Hall, we are exploring the cross and what it has to teach us on our modern-day journeys of faith.

5 MUSIC NOTES: Our music this Sunday reflects themes of the Reformation through the focus of the sermon topic on the cross. The choir anthem Da Jesus an dem Kreuze stund was written by the 16th century Germany theologian Johann Böschenstein ( ) and set to a harmonization by Hans Leo Hassler ( ). The hymn text presents the seven last words of Jesus on the cross while calling the listener to repentance and righteous living. The offertory presents the German "Creed Chorale" Wir glauben all an einen Gott set by the German romantic composer Max Reger ( ). A central element of the Reformation was the codification of a belief system centered in the justification of all through faith in Jesus--a founding principle in the establishment of civil equality in the 18 th -century Enlightenment movement. Organ works from the 17 th and 18 th centuries by Samuel Scheidt and Johann Sebastian Bach round out our service. OUR STUDENT LAY LEADER is Julz Tindall, who is a second-year law student at Case Western Reserve University. She grew up in Pittsburgh attending Southminster Presbyterian Church for Sunday School, worship services, and youth group every Sunday since her infant baptism there. Southminster youth group was such a positive environment it has driven her to want to give back everything she learned to the Church of the Covenant community.
