ANNUAL MEETING TODAY, 11AM 1PM: Following worship we will gather for lunch, Bible study, election of officers, and highlights from the year. MUSIC NOTES: We welcome the Beckwith Handbell Choir to our service today. Many of the students serving in the choir are completing their semester, and we thank them for their dedication this year. Our service also features two anthems by local composer and CWRU faculty member, Eric Charnofsky. We thank Mr. Charnofsky for accompanying two of our pieces. ERIC CHARNOFSKY teaches Keyboard Ensemble, various music- related seminars, and coordinates the accompanying program at Case Western Reserve University, where he has twice been nominated for the Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. Mr. Charnofsky has performed as a collaborative pianist throughout the United States. He has concertized with members of the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and The Cleveland Orchestra. A graduate of The Juilliard School where he majored in piano accompanying, Mr. Charnofsky also holds degrees in solo piano performance and composition from California State University, Northridge, where he received the Outstanding Bachelors Degree Graduate award. Formerly on the faculty in the pre- college division at The Juilliard School, he served as staff accompanist and ear- training fellow in the Juilliard College division. He is programmer and host of Not Your Grandmother s Classical Music, a weekly radio program on the campus station WRUW- FM. LAY WORSHIP LEADER TODAY is LUCY MATZ. Lucy is the daughter of Dennis and Nancy Matz and was baptized in Church of the Covenant in 1989 and confirmed in She has participated in many youth mission trips, served as an Elder and on the Pastor Nominating Committee that decided on Reverend Starr Redwine, and serves currently on the Communications Committee. Lucy is in her third season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and considers both Anderson Varejao and Austin Carr her "ʺbuddies."ʺ Want to know

Ushers distribute bulletins, conduct some worshipers to their seats, and collect the offering. Ushers also help at special services and musical events. HEALING CIRCLE MEETS TODAY at 12:30 pm in the Sonia Golden Room. Engage in meditation exercises, and hear about each other s work and research. The session includes a light lunch, energy work for those who have a need, and an update on the Covenant s work with University Hospitals. AMY STARR REDWINE is away this week, Monday through Wednesday, on study leave at the Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina; and next week, Monday through Thursday at the Festival of Homiletics in Denver, Colorado. 6 IN THE COVENANT FAMILY WE KEEP IN OUR PRAYERS Covenant s Associate Pastor Nominating Committee, and Glenn Anderson, Sr., Barbara Boyd (Freddie Holman s sister), Jan Dean, Kevin Ekeberg, Sharoon Hanook and his father, Ginny Kallay, Marilyn and Rolf Krotseng, Kathleen Kwasniewski, Tenisha Owens, Carol Roe, Jonyrma Singleton, Barbara Thatcher Williams, Marjorie Wadsworth, and Fred Watts (Kitty Borchert s brother- in- law), as well as other Covenant members and friends who are struggling with illness, convalescing, or are homebound. TODAY WE WELCOME SEVEN NEW MEMBERS who were approved by Session on April 22: MARTHA COOPER had worshiped at Covenant with daughter and son- in- law, Lyn and Jim Tomaszewski, so when she moved to Breckenridge Village from New Philadelphia, joining Covenant was a natural choice. She worked with her husband, Fred, in their shoe business, and was an active volunteer in both her church and community. She joins by letter of transfer from First United Church of Christ. MARIE JONES, M.Div, LSW, a social worker with Neighborhood Health Services, Inc., lives in Cleveland and joins upon reaffirmation of faith. She and husband, Craig, are the parents of Keasia, 10, and Raymond, 8, and have loved Covenant s PACT activities. BETH SILVERMAN recently married Tracy Blake and joins Covenant by profession of faith. She is a banker with First Federal Lakewood and the mother of Brooke and Kathryn Johnson. She and Tracy live in Chagrin Falls. PORTIA MILES SMITH lives in Cleveland Heights and joins Covenant by letter of transfer from Trinity Cathedral. The widow of the Rev. Kenneth Smith, who died recently, she is pleased to return to worship at the Covenant. JAMES (JIM) SPITTLE joins Covenant by reaffirmation of faith, and he teaches this year at Mosdos Ohr Hatorah School in Warrensville Heights. He and wife, Hilary, are the parents of Thea and live in Cleveland Heights. A sideline for Jim is playing drums in a local band and volunteering at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. ANN AND LOUIS (LOU) STARK is an account executive with Hylant Insurance and mother of Elizabeth and Will. She and husband, Lou, join Covenant by letter of transfer from St. Mark s Lutheran Church in Marion, IA. Lou moved to Cleveland recently as CWRU s new Vice President for Student Affairs. He and Ann now live in Cleveland, following Ann s move from Iowa a few weeks ago. DEACONS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS are invited to volunteer to serve at receptions and/or to create flower arrangements.
