1 First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna 99 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ ~ November 2017 INSIDE THIS ISSUE The Mission Committee wants you to know how our special offerings and designated mission funds are being used to bring shelter and comfort to those who need it most in our community, and support the work for peace and social justice in the world. In October the following donations were made: A special gift of $250 was made to PCUSA World Missions and designated to our mission co-worker in Bolivia, Chenoa Stock, in celebration of her growing family. Chenoa and her husband, Jose are expecting their first child in January. You can learn more about Chenoa and her work by visiting The Faith Kitchen received $250, the proceeds of the sale of Walking Tacos on Succasunny Day. Presbyterian Disaster Relief received $500 to be used towards hurricane relief efforts in Houston and Florida. Peacemaking Offering resulted in $500 in gifts. Camp Johnsonburg received 25% or $125 for summer camp scholarships for youth in need. A donation was made to Roxbury Social Services of $250. The funds are to be used to help those in need of assistance with meeting the cost of heating their homes over the winter. Homeless Solutions received $100 of designated mission funds to support their program to provide shelter for the homeless in our community. During this season of thanks, we are very thankful for these gifts and the opportunity to share God s great abundance with others. WHY BUY SHOPRITE CARDS THROUGH THE CHURCH? The most obvious reason to buy your Shoprite Cards through the church is that it is a very effective and minimally labor intensive fund raiser that yields several thousand dollars a year. We have a hard core of purchasers but can always use more. The second, and not so obvious reason, is that it speeds up the checkout process in both the regular and self checkout lines. When you use your latest chipenabled hack-proof credit card, the machine sits there for a while processing the payment while you stand there and smile at the cashier or shrug your shoulders at the next person in line. When you use a Shoprite Card, the transaction is instantaneous and the receipt starts printing before you get the card back in your wallet or purse. If you doubt that statement, you can perform your own test. Shoprite Cards are available for sale every Sunday during Fellowship time or by contacting Dick Schulte at

6 CALLING ALL Help Wanted Needed CRAFTERS Do you like to make hats, mittens, scarves, or other holiday items? Now is the time to donate them to the Mission Committee to sell at the Alternative Gift Market during the Home for the Holidays event. The relatively simple method of counting, recording and depositing our donations to FPC has been functioning fairly well. Our number one problem is the shortage of Counters. Ideally, there should be a minimum of 10 people but, we have only 7. This means that counting once (or less) per month is not possible. With other activities by the existing Counters, there have been times when there have been no Counters available and we scramble to get the counting done. Would you please help us; the process takes about one hour during or after Fellowship Hour. If interested, see Pastor Carie or Bob Criswell. ~ Finance Committee SUCKASUNNY DAY UPDATE Thank you to everyone who volunteered or made a donation to help make the 30th annual Suckasunny Day a great success. Proceeds were donated to the Faith Kitchen. ~ Rick Lansing Vendor spaces (36) $ Drinks $ Games $ Walking Tacos* $ Cookies $ Silent Auction $1, Italian Ice + Root Beer Floats $100.00
