2 CREATIVE BLESSINGS Led by Malinda Brymer Calling all crafters and those who think they could never craft! Join us on Saturday, November 3rd at 10 A.M. in the Old Fellowship Hall as we make a wreath (your choice Christmas or Fall), share brunch and are encouraged by a devotional. Has been sold out, how wonderful. Bring a brunch item to share. womensministry@fbcpleasanton.org DATES Oct. 28th Morning Proposed 2019 Budget in Foyer Nov. 4th 6:30 P.M. Business Meeting discuss the budget Nov.11th 12 Noon Vote on 2019 Budget after service. YOU can make a difference in a child s life. Nearly 11 million shoebox gifts were collected worldwide through the Operation Christmas Child Ministry in 2017, with more than 8.8 million collected in the U.S. We are thankful for the millions of children who have already been reached through this ministry, and we pray that the Lord will continue to bring multitudes into His Kingdom through the Gospel. At its heart, though, Operation Christmas Child is still about the impact of a simple gift delivered with the Good News of Jesus Christ into the hands of a boy or girl living in the midst of poverty and despair. Every one of these boxes represents a precious child of God, many of whom have never received a gift before in their lives. Some also have never heard the Good News of the Savior who loves them and offers them eternal life if they turn from their sins and put their trust in Him. As Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14,NKJV). How to participate: 1. Get a shoebox for a girl or boy, label it & mark the age group. Boy or Girl ages 2-4, 5-9 or Include a Wow toy such as doll, soccer ball with pump or stuffed animal. 3. Add other fun toys, hygiene items & school supplies. 4. Most importantly, pray for the child who receives your gift. We will be accepting boxes until Sun. Nov. 11th. Things not to put in you box: candy; food; seeds toothpaste; used or damaged items; war-related items; liquids, lotions, vitamins; breakable items or glass containers and aerosol cans. Don t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour on Sunday November 4th, daylight saving time ends. Deacon Meeting Sun., November 18th at 5:00 P.M. in the conference room. Sunday, Nov. 18th at 6:30 P.M. in the Old Fellowship Hall Thanksgiving Meals Main Street Outreach in Pleasanton will be providing free Thanksgiving meals on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 22nd to the elderly, low-income, and homeless families. If you know of someone in need, in Atascosa County have them call the church office to reserve a meal. The meals can be pickup at St. Andrew s Hall or if they are not able, we will deliver them. If you are interested in delivering meals just call the phone number above. This is a wonderful thing you can do with your children to experience the thankfulness. Last year s Thanksgiving Dinner was a great success. Many volunteers helped & 1000 people were served from Pleasanton, Leming, Charlotte, Poteet, Campbellton, Christine and Jourdanton. We have been so lucky that we have always been able to feed everyone that needs a meal. We can always use volunteers: people to prepare the food, drivers and helpers for Thanksgiving Day, and clean up crew. We have whole families come to help. If you would be interested in volunteering, please call the church office

3 Jot From John James 5:16 says, Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of righteous man availeth much. We have had many to pray for lately in regard to their health. Our prayer board is full and the opportunity for ministry is great and is wonderfully being fulfilled. Thank you to each one of you who has taken time to pray, to visit, to send cards, to take food, and to minister to those in need. Pray for these, Gayland and Frances Ashton, Verna Ward, Bonnie Murphy, John and Laura Clader, Travis and Gayle Powell, Bob Beeter, James Cox, Deanna Skinner, Dea Warnken, Jennifer Manzanares, Craig Dowdy, Dorothy Bennight, Sally (Trimble) Smith, and Stacy Myers. And, anyone else on your heart. We found out recently that Linda Cordova, who has been keeping our place of worship clean for 40 years, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She has begun chemo treatments that will last for several months. Pete, her husband is in Retama South. Pray for Pete and Linda and their family; for healing, for strength and for peace. In light of this diagnosis Linda will be retiring from her position at our church which she has faithful held since Nov. 1, We plan to honor her at sometime in the near future for 40 years of service. We ll give you the opportunity at that time to express your appreciation and to show her your support in her fight against Leukemia. Brother John Days of Refreshing Sunday Nov. 11th 10:50 A.M. and 6:30 P.M. Guest speakers Randy and Debbie Fair have been called to the challenge of church revitalization, and are the founders on lifeone Network. They have been in full-time ministry since they were married in January Randy has served for a total of 16 years at four churches in staff positions ranging from; Student Pastor, Senior Pastor, as well as Worship and Outreach. Randy will be doing a talk chalk during each service. Here is John sharply dressed in his tuxedo on the evening that the Singing Men of Texas sang at Carnegie Hall. Thank you for your prayers and support of this mission trip as the Singing Men sang the Name of Jesus in New York. Dear Church Family, It s so good to be back at FBC with my working shoes on! Thanks again for the prayers! Some of you have expressed to me that you don t understand all the different Christmas offerings, ministries, etc. That come up this time of year and the difference in each of them so, here goes! Hope this helps! *Lottie Moon is our precious Missionary Offering named for the missionary Lottie Moon who gave most of her life to missions. This missionary endeavor is strictly a Baptist effort but encompasses a worldwide ministry. Barbara Lewis has given several explanations of Miss Moon s ministry and I am sure she would be glad to share with you all that this offering encompasses. *Christmas Village The idea of the village was created here at this church many years ago. If it hadn t been for this church family wanting to tell everyone about Christ we would not have the Christmas Village today. This is an reenactment of the story of Jesus from the foretelling of His coming to His resurrection! It has been described to me by a young man as the...first time I have understood what Jesus did! If you aren t in on this or haven t helped we have more info in the other page on the newsletter. *Operation Christmas Child is a work of Franklin Graham and Samaritan s Purse that takes a shoebox to children all over the world from you and me and give these precious little ones the plan of salvation! It is an awesome way to show each of us that Christmas is Christ s and it extends outside our family, church, community AND comfort zone! I believe Norma Swinney or Leah Robertson would be happy to share more information. *Chuck Colson s Prison Ministry Fellowship is an effort to deliver Christmas gifts to the children of inmates all over U.S. counties. Your family (or an individual) can take a name of a child/children in Atascosa County (the mom or dad is in prison and has asked that a gift be delivered to the child on their behalf). We can take the gift and are encouraged to give Bibles, tracts, the plan of salvation and invitations to come to church. See me for this one. I usually have about children. *Last but not least is ACCEPT 18, which covers the poor families, including the elderly, in Atascosa who need help this Christmas with toys for their children. FBC has been doing this program for about 31 years and you may see me for more information. The Christmas tree you see in the foyer during Christmas is for ACCEPT and also assists with Prison Ministry Fellowship. I praise God for you and ask His unfailing promises continue to carry you through 2018 and into a glorious 2019! Jeanne Ulrich

4 Child Development Center It has been an incredibly busy fall at FBCCDC! I am so excited to share with everyone all about our latest and greatest updates. With the beginning of the school year, FBCCDC began the early Childhood Assessment. The Assessment goes along with our WEE curriculum and was developed by the Texas Baptist Church Weekday Education Association. The Narrative beginning of the year tool was completed and results were sent home Sept. 28th. Through the Narrative each child beginning at age 6 weeks through 5 years old were provided with a series of activities that are developmentally appropriate for their specific age. From this Narrative, the teachers use a scope and sequence to plan creative experiences that are age appropriate to encourage children to reach their developmental milestones while being sensitive to each child s abilities. Nov. brings cooler weather and wet days. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for each days weather. The teachers take advantage of the days they can take the children out and they will make sure your child is bundled up to be outside when necessary. When the days are too wet and cold they spend time in the New Fellowship Hall playing games and working on gross motor activities. Also, please make sure your child has extra clothes in their cubby that are suitable for the weather please include socks and shoes. Our PreK-4 class took a recent field trip to Devine Acres Farms. They learned about growing a pumpkin, took a hay ride around the property, fed ducks, goats and pigs and painted a pumpkin to take home. They recently took a trip to Retama North Nursing home. The director read them a book and did a craft with the children and residents. They finished the morning with a pizza lunch before heading back to the CDC. Ms. Melody s and Ms. Sara s 3 year old class will be taking a field trip to Morgan s Wonderland Friday Nov. 9th. This is always a fun day for the children & their families. Monday November 5th the CDC will be hosting the annual Thanksgiving Feast for our children and their families. Each class will be decorating tables with seasonal themes. In the spirit of giving, each family will be providing part of the meal that Ms. Gloria, Ms. Martha and Ms. Alvira will be preparing. The church office and other staff will be helping by serving and joining us for lunch. The CDC will be closed Thursday Nov. 22nd and Friday Nov. 23rd. FBCCDC had it s first fundraiser for the school year. The catalog sale was a great success! All money raised will be used to buy needed items for the center, as well as, adding to our playground fund. Speaking of our playground fund, we have gotten proposals from two different companies of updating the children s playground in the courtyard. This playground is where our younger children under the age of two spend their play time while outside. I would love to share this information with anyone that might be interested in helping us fund this project. Please stop by the CDC office anytime! POINSETTIAS Church members are invited to purchase one or more poinsettias in honor or in memory of a family member or friend. The cost is $16.00 per plant, and they will be used to decorate the church for Christmas. You may pick up the form in the office or in church on Sunday mornings. The Deadline is Sun. Nov. 18th. If you have any question please call the office New Living In His Presence By Robert Morris Starts Tuesday, Nov. 13th Led by Caryl Hudson 6:30 PM the Old Fellowship Hall Please welcome Wally Goodman as our interim Pastor. He will serve in this capacity until the church hires a full time Pastor. At the last business meeting, the pastor search committee informed those present that they have narrowed their search to 1 Pastoral candidate. We look forward to the time Wally has and will spend with us.

7 Christmas Village 2018 Did you know that our church started the Christmas Village in 1998 which is now in Poteet? Did you know that some of our church family have participated every year since its birth! Did you know that this church and its members continue to be a driving force today for the village? Did you know that all our Pastors are part of this event? John is in charge of all the music and entertainment. Brian was one of the Jesus s. The rest of the Avery family have parts in the village. The Village is something that every person in our church should be very proud of! Talk about ministry work! Last year the Christmas Village had over 1000 people come through in 3 days. Each person had their own experience. Some heard the word of God for the first time. Others have heard it over and over and find it s really hard to understand and connect to, until they saw it (they needed the visual). But most agree there is something about seeing and experiencing the journey that gives people goose bumps. That s when you know they understand. Have you ever been to The Living Christmas Village at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds? If you haven t been for a while or not at all, you don t know what you re missing!!! You re literally stepping back and Experiencing the Journey of Christ!! It takes a diverse group of volunteers to make the village come to life. Throughout the weeks to come we will need volunteers for a variety of jobs from building sets, painting, decorating the scenes, sewing & sorting costumes, just to name a few projects. We will need volunteers for our cast. We have something that you can do as a family. You can be a village person where you just walk thru the village the whole night. There are speaking and non-speaking parts available and always room for you to share your talent while entertaining our guest as they prepare for their journey through the Village. We will continue to work most Monday s, Wednesday s and Saturday s from 9 A.M. 3 P.M. with lunch provided on Saturdays. Most Mon s., Wed s., are Construction Days 9 am & Sat. s we have Construction & Sewing Days 9 am. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10b) Walking Down the Romans Road to Salvation. Because of our sin, we are separated from God. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) The Penalty for our sin is death. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) The penalty for our sin was paid by Jesus Christ! But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) If we repent of our sin, then confess and trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will be saved from our sins! For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10) To receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, Pray to receive God s forgiveness by faith.
