6 Contributions Needed for Student Aid Fund The school year will end soon for 25 CMC students attending Goshen College, Hesston College, AMBS, and Bethany. These students urgently need your help in the next two months to finish this financial school year in the black. As the end of the school year approaches, we still need $28,968 to meet our obligations to our students. Please consider helping further the continuing Christian education of these CMC youth with your financial donations. Thank you for considering this mission. Volunteers Needed Greencroft Bus Drivers: Additional volunteer bus drivers are needed. Requirements include a public passenger driver s license, ability to assist people getting on the bus, and being prompt. We currently have only two drivers, and when they are not available we need to hire a driver from Greencroft. For additional information, contact Marty Lehman. Sunday Custodians: Currently we have only two Sunday custodians and need an additional two or three people. Duties include the ability to lift heavy things and move furniture, locking and unlocking doors, room setups and teardowns, etc. For additional information, contact Scott Litwiller or Marty Lehman. Kitchen Volunteers: Additional volunteers are needed to help with funeral meals. For additional information, contact Jessica Whicker at jessica@collegemennonite.org. Neighborhood Group Sunday May 7 Our next Neighborhood Group Sunday will be May 7. If you have not attended a neighborhood group, contact the church office for information about your group. Contact Information Update John Zook 3117 Drake Ct., Goshen, IN landline disconnected use cell # as listed in directory Join CMC s Growing Ministry with Children There is a lot of growth and change happening in our congregation right now. This is good news. But it also means we will need to make adaptive changes. In the last 13 months we gained 25 children under the age of 18. We will need to add more Sunday school classes, which also means more Sunday school teaching opportunities. We invite your prayers as we work through these growth opportunities and encourage you to consider being part of the valuable ministry of teaching the children of CMC. Talashia Keim Yoder, pastor for family ministry and Lori Copsey, chair of Discipling Commission 6
Bible Study Hispanic Ministry From April to May, the Hispanic Ministry, led by Luis Tapia, will conduct a series of Bible studies called Walking Toward Shalom: A History of Salvation in Anabaptist Perspective. The meetings will be every Friday at 6 p.m. in different places. These Bible studies will be a practice of communal interpretation of the Bible, where participants read the biblical texts and discuss their meaning for our time. Church Library Book Notes Bec Anabaptist Essentials: Ten Signs of a Unique Christian Faith (Herald Press 2017) by Palmer Becker, former director of the pastoral ministries program at Hesston College. He expands on his book, What Is an Anabaptist Christian? by focusing on Jesus, community, and reconciliation. As Malcolm Gladwell says, It s hard to explain to an outsider how seriously Mennonites take these three things Kal When Breath Becomes Air: What Makes Life Worth Living in the Face of Death (Vintage 2016) by Paul Kalanithi, a neurosurgeon and new father, who died at 37 years of lung cancer. The diagnosis prompted this elegant, literate memoir and meditation on dying. Mennonite Women Report, April 6, 2017 Forty women gathered on Thursday, April 6, for fellowship and a time of working on various projects. Mennonite Woman of the month is Edna Hunsberger. Clinton Frame Church has invited our women to meet with them on May 3. Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Women s meeting is scheduled for May 6 at Holdeman Mennonite Church. Linda Christophel shared about the MDS work in Saipan in which she and several other CMCers participated. Gay Lehman told of the many ways The Window reaches out to the Goshen community. Work completed: 95 bags strung, 77 rolled bandages, four cards, 300 prayer squares completed with 80 donated to the deaf women s retreat, two comforters. Offering: $155 for MCC s Global Family project. 7
8 Mennonite Women May 4 Join Mennonite Women for a workday beginning at 9 a.m. on May 4 in the Gathering Rooms. Bring toiletry items and egg cartons for The Window. All women are invited to join in a variety of projects.
