5 NOTES Near the beginning of our worship, we will have a time for sharing events of the life of the church. Bulletin announcements will be highlighted by the Worship Leader, followed by an opportunity to offer additional sharing. Please be mindful of the limited time we have to worship together on Sunday mornings. --Worship Committee Allison T will be attending the Women's Retreat at Camp Friedenswald Sept and she has shared that she would be happy to offer her car for carpooling. Tickets are $11 for adults and kids 4 years and up (kids under 4 are free). Sign-up sheet is in the church foyer. Please plan to attend the Annual Congregational Meeting to be held on September 27, directly after service. We will be discussing the Leadership Slate and the Annual Budget. All are encouraged to attend. What actually happens in the delegate assembly and behind the scenes? Come learn more on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m. in the gathering space outside the sanctuary. As the joint adult/high school MC USA convention series continues, Ed D will share about the MC USA delegate assembly and his role as parliamentarian. Everyone is welcome, and no preparation is necessary just show up! If you would like child care for your infant or toddler during the education hour for any of the Sundays during this series, please let Jane P know via or phone. Christian Education Committee will be happy to provide this service to enable parents to attend. Each event is $5 at the door and is followed by a social hour. 6 Thank you for supporting our students! Brianne B, now a junior at Goshen College, will be bringing us the sermon on Oct. 25 as she reflects on her 3-month study-service term in Nicaragua last summer. Our congregation has a $500 pledge to support Brianne s tuition coming due this fall. All of this money comes from personal donations; heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given in the past. If you would like to give or give again, please make checks payable to CMF with student mutual aid written in the memo line. Your designated gift can either be given to Treasurer Steve H or placed in the offering. If you have any questions, please contact Suzanne Marie H of CMF s Student Mutual Aid Committee. RECYCLING - Thanks for those who have been bringing in their empty items to contribute to our recycling donations. I will be discontinuing the Capri Sun drink pouches, so if you have any, please bring them during this month of September. I will put out the box for collection of the empty toothpaste tubes and floss containers, used toothbrushes, and the packaging that these items come in, 4 times a year. I will put them out for the rest of September, and then again during the months of December, March and June, as well as the box for empty scotch tape dispensers and the middle circle (as I'm sure a lot of scotch tape will get used-up in December!) 7 Women's Retreat 2015 WOMEN RISING: Naming, Claiming, Transforming September Central District Conference Mennonite Women will host the annual women's retreat at Camp Friedenswald Sept , This year's guest speaker is Biblical scholar, Laura Brenneman. Expect worship, fellowship, free time, workshops, recreation, time on the water and in the woods. We invite all women to come - with your brokenness, your strength, your laughter. Open to the Spirit - come. The retreat begins Friday evening and closes Sunday after brunch. The cost is $150 and women 25 and under may attend for free. Register online at and contact Marcia E. Experience the beauty of the natural world while catching up with old friends and making new ones. Alan Kreider of Elkhart, IN will speak on the power and problems of prayer, and Hal Hess of Cincinnati, OH will lead us in music. Activities include primitive fire-building, nature hikes, an outdoor service project and the annual Friedenswald Mennothon. Come to relax, be challenged and have a great time! Everence video contest invites young people to express views on money A video contest about young people s views on money will begin receiving entries on Oct. 1. The Everence Money Talks video contest is open to anyone 15 to 25; the top award of $2,000 will be split between the winner and a selected charity. Awards also will be given to second- and third-place finishers and their selected charities. For more information go to Creation Care - Global Warming: Mike Tidwell, author and filmmaker who predicted in vivid detail the Hurricane Katrina disaster in his 2003 book Bayou Farewell: The Rich Life and Tragic Death of Louisiana s Cajun Coast, will visit the Goshen College campus September Tidwell, the founder and director of Chesapeake Climate Action Network, will present the 2015 Yoder Public Affairs lecture titled, Will Indiana Overheat or Become a Clean Energy Paradise? on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:30 pm. On Wednesday, September 30, at 9:00 am, Tidwell will speak to Goshen College first-year students about his book "Ponds of Kalambayi: A Peace Corps Memoir," followed by a convocation at 10:00 am, titled Global Warming: How Young People Can Change an Old Debate." All events are held in the Goshen College Church-Chapel and are free and open to the public. 8 PRAYERS FOR FAITH AND LEARNING Pray that the Hispanic Pastoral and Leadership Training programs, Instituto Bíblico Anabautista (IBA) and Seminario Bíblico Anabautista Hispano (SeBAH) would be a source of blessing as they train leaders to work towards the expansion of God s kingdom. PRAYERS FOR THE MENNONITE MISSION NETWORK Mennonite Mission Network partners Annette and Paco Castillo are commissioned by the Mennonite Church in Burgos, Spain, to begin a children s ministry in Ivory Coast. The Castillos, who began the La Casa Grande ministry in Benin, request prayer for the children s health and for electricians and plumbers to mentor apprentices Book Club will meet on Sunday, November 8 after church at the home of Jim & Joy M. The book to be discussed is "David and Goliath" by Malcolm Gladwell. Please bring a dish to share. Journey Groups Contact information available through the office for all facilitators.
