June 2009 Hopkins Community Reformed Church th Avenue, PO Box 336 Hopkins, MI (269) Office Hours: M-F 8:30-4:00 PM Sunday School is over until Next Fall and Discipleship Should Never Stop I ve said it before, but it deserves to be repeated: The family is the primary place for discipleship. We work together as a church to grow in our faith as we participate in Sunday School, Small Groups, Bible Studies, Sunday Worship Service, etc but these should all be in addition to your personal and family activities of faith. Last Sunday we shared different activities that people build into their lives to remember and focus on their relationship with God. Here is what we came up with: -Every night hold each other in arms (married couples) and pray together before going to sleep -Celebrate anniversary of Baptism -Celebrate anniversary of accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior -Christmas read the Christmas story before opening gifts -Christmas bake a birthday cake for Jesus -Memorial Day-go to ceremonies at local cemeteries -In the morning pray for each child by name -Easter plastic Easter eggs, each with a symbol in them to help tell the story of Easter -Daily Personal Devotions (ready the Bible and pray, sometimes using devotional book) -Family Devotions Read scripture and pray together as family -Pray with children when tucking them in for bed -Prayer before meals I encourage you to sit down with your family and discuss how you will build into your days, weeks, months, and years, ways to remember and focus on God in your lives. Use ideas from this list and come up with ones of your own (please share your ideas with Pastor Mark) What can we do every day? Wake up Breakfast Lunch Dinner Bedtime Bathtime What can we do weekly? -Sunday (how can Sunday be a special day for your family with God?) -Other What can we do monthly? What can we do annually? Remember, discipleship is a constant and continual process that you are the primary person responsible for both as an individual and as a parent. We as a church family help each other with Sunday School during the school year, but as families we should be active in this all year. See you Sunday as we gather for our weekly congregational worship service! Pastor Mark CHURCH HAPPENINGS Ladies For The Lord meets on the 2nd Monday night of each month at 7:00 pm. MOPS meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 9:30-11:30 am. Moms In Touch meets every Wednesday from 8:15-9:15 am at church to pray for our children. Bible Study meets every Monday at 8:45 am. Men s Bible Study NEW! Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Women s Bible Study Meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 9:30 am. Plus One A group for post high kids/ young adults to get together during Sunday School for a time of study/ discussion. Young At Heart NEW! A group for 55+ meeting the 1st Tuesday of the month at 11 am. Youth Groups check calendar for dates & activities.

3 USHERS Ushers should be at church by 9:10 am and are responsible for passing out bulletins, and seating the congregation. The church would like to thank the Ladies For The Lord group for the donation they recently gave towards the building fund in the amount of $5,000. The congregation s support of the various dinners, fundraisers, etc. that this group of women work hard on all year long is so much appreciated, and we also thank them for their generous hearts and willing hands! Thank you to Tabitha Wolters and the many ladies from our church family who supported Lakeshore Pregnancy Center at the Cara s Creations purse party! What a fun way to get together with friends, pick up a little something special for yourself, and help a great cause all at the same time! The diaper bags you helped purchase will be a very nice surprise for some new moms in tough situations. Thank you for caring! ~The Lakeshore Pregnancy Center Staff & Volunteers Thank you to the Junior High Youth Group, roofers, Jon Pavlak and anyone else that I may have omitted who have helped to get Mel Trotter Camp ready for this summer!!! If you have ever wondered how you could help, here are a few needs we have before the coming season: Band-Aids, bug spray, hand sanitizer, sun block, water balloons, squirt guns, ice packs for injuries, and ace wraps. These items can be placed in the box under the back tables. Another new thing this year is that I would like to have a prayer partner for each of my 50 staff members. The wonderful meals that were brought to us were very much appreciated thank you all! ~Bev & Carl Barnhardt Dear Church Family, I would like to thank you for the many cards that I received and the visits to Stanford Lodge where I stayed as I convalesced as my hand healed. It was a long process but I m thankful that I had a place to go that treated me very well. It feels really good to be back in my own home with all my own surroundings. The Lord was good and your friendship and prayers were meaningful. ~Sincerely, Julia Gilder ALIVE! at HCRC: mark your calendars for Sunday, June 14th to come and hear the group Alive! who will be presenting an entire worship service of music for us that day. Come and join us for an hour of inspirational music! Win-Some Women s Retreat: The theme of the retreat is Heart of God and will be held on Mackinac Island this fall from October 21-23, Reservations will be accepted beginning August 10 and there are 2 different sessions during the week that we can sign up for. Reservations tend to go fast however. Lodging will be at the Grand Hotel and ranges from $155 per night (3-4 per room) up to $175 per night (2 per room). The keynote speakers are Rev. Don Piper and Jennifer O Neill. Please check with Cindy Hoffmaster about plans and details for this retreat.
