4 Page Four DO NO HARM We listen quite a while before we get to the punch line of the first reading today: even though it would be an easy thing to do, David will not harm the anointed one of the Lord. We, of course, know that Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed one of God, but the Bible uses this term for many different people. It is scripture s way of indicating who has been chosen by God for a special place and mission in salvation history. In today s Gospel, Jesus presents a greatly enlarged list of those who, as children of God, we should not harm, but love instead: our enemies, those who curse us or do us harm, those who owe us money, the ungrateful, the wicked. The point of Jesus teaching is not to encourage these kinds of behaviors in others, but rather to form us in the image of our heavenly Father by increasing our opportunities to love unconditionally, expecting no return; to be merciful and forgiving, even when it would be easier not to. 6 Page Six Learn Succeed Lead PLEASE READ --- IMPORANT UPDATE St. Anne School St. Anne School has been diligent in keeping costs in line and keeping school affordable, while working to grow academic programs and enrollment. This is a delicate balance as Catholic schools today must conduct themselves as a business, with a business model and planning for the future. Times are difficult for many Catholic schools. However, St. Anne School with an ongoing commitment from our parish and community has turned the tide for a positive future. We are staying competitive and strong to become more self-sustaining relying less on parish support each year. This has taken the efforts of a hardworking and dedicated team of parish and school administration. The school has dynamic and strong leadership in our principal and a small, but effective team in place that is results-oriented with a remarkably supportive pastor. Every step is a team approach for growth and sustainability. Three and a half years ago, St. Anne School became part of the Healey Education Foundation marketing program through the Diocese of Allentown, receiving grants and professional consultant services for three years to engage in and continue proven best practices. These practices included development of a business model for the areas of enrollment and marketing, development and governance, including the hiring of an advancement professional whose role is to create and employ enrollment, marketing and development strategies and processes. St. Anne School is now a Healey Alumni School, receiving consultant support and is the recipient of their prestigious Annual Founder s Grant Award. The first steps in this program were branding and marketing the school which included a new mission developed with the assistance of parents, alumni, parishioners and faculty. A new logo and marketing program were created to give us identity and put St. Anne School back on the enrollment/marketing map. Proven enrollment practices both internally and externally were employed and continue each year. Everything St. Anne School does is mission driven and data informed. Second was St. Anne School s specific advancement efforts -In these three years we have raised over $65,000 in applied for grants, annual appeal and awarded grants for outstanding achievement in enrollment and marketing efforts. Our school administrative team has worked diligently to streamline tuition collection and scholarship award processing to help many families afford a Catholic school education while keeping costs in line. Our enrollment has grown at a slow and steady pace as these best practices have taken hold. This year, St. Anne School has experienced its best enrollment success and we will vigorously continue our efforts to grow and move forward as we attract new families to our parish and students to our school. We are a welcoming, engaged school community for all families and all faiths. Third in the process was the formation of a Board of Specified Jurisdiction which is part of The Healey Education Foundation and Diocese of Allentown model for success. This board, which follows specific operating principals is a group of dedicated volunteers and pastor, who lend their specific professional expertise, employing business models and strategic thinking for the future growth of St. Anne School. The board oversees the school budgeting process, enrollment, marketing, development and facilities planning. The board does not engage in the school s day to day operations, academics, or hiring/ human resource issues. We are deeply grateful for the Board members willingness to give of their time, talent and treasure on behalf of St. Anne School. St. Anne is positioned for a bright future. Thank you for your ongoing support of our efforts for the growth and sustainability of St. Anne School, as our beautiful Catholic school shines bright for the future.
