Our parish strives to make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for us through the Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure. All of our parishioners are encouraged to count their blessings each day and to make a sacrificial return through the parish offertory, and by compassionately serving one another s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Mass Schedule: Weekend: Saturday Vigil - 4:30 PM Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 noon Weekdays and Holy Days: as announced in bulletin Reconciliation: Saturday - 3:15 to 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:15 AM PARISH MEMBERSHIP: Active parish membership is both necessary and helpful to all involved when seeking sponsorship certificates, Marriage or Baptism preparations. Please call the rectory to register or to report address or phone number changes. HOSPITAL VISITS: Please have someone notify the rectory when you or a family member is hospitalized. BAPTISM: Parents must attend a Baptism Prep Class before the Baptism of their child. Classes are held on Sunday in the months of Feb., Apr., Jun., Aug., Oct., and Dec., and Baptisms are held once a month. 3 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three BEARING THE RIGHT KIND OF FRUIT Today s readings focus our attention on vineyards. Isaiah s song concerning his friend s vineyard begins with inspiring and poetic images of an idyllic vineyard where the choicest harvest is expected. Instead, the vineyard yields wild grapes, which causes the owner to abandon it. The psalmist cries out to God, asking that God once again take care of the vineyard, which is the house of Israel. The parable told in today s Gospel offers a stern warning that those who commit treachery in the hopes of attaining personal wealth will be put... to a wretched death (Matthew 21:41). Jesus warns his listeners not to act like the murderous tenants in the vineyard. Instead he exhorts them to produce the kind of fruit that will lead them to the kingdom of God. Family Matters: Every time we promote the dignity of a human being we are pro-life. God grant us the courage to choose life in our words and our actions. May our families reflect the importance of promoting the goodness of life in the ordinaries of their daily activities. You Pray for My Family and I Will Pray For Yours. St. Anne s 55+ Club: invites parish members and friends to attend Godspell on Oct. 22 at 2 PM at De Sales University. Tickets are $20. Registration forms can be located on the tables at the church entrances or call Isabelle at St. Francis Center for Renewal: is in search of a part-time cook with a flexible, welcoming nature. Hours vary between hours per week. Person filling this position will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to groups ranging from people. Prior experience preferred. Culinary education not required. Weekends are a must, no late nights. Please send letter of interest to: chef.stfrancis@gmail.com St. Vincent de Paul Society: Meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the convent. Parishioners are welcome to visit a meeting! Members take part in the activities of their choice, including helpful visits to families and persons in need, or some of the services found below. All services need new helpers! Clothing Center: The Clothing Center has resumed service and is now accepting fall and winter clothing, footwear and linens. Food Project: Parishioners donate bags of non-perishable foods and toiletries in bins at the church entrances. Volunteers bring these to the convent where members sort and store it for the needy families we visit and for food pantries. Envelopes for money or gift cards are at the bins. Partnership with Share Care: Parish drivers provide rides for elderly and handicapped parishioners. New drivers are welcome! Need a ride? Requests must be made at least two week in advance. Call Share Care at , identify as a St. Anne s Parishioner. We welcome all who wish to lend a helping hand to our needy Bethlehem neighbors or to transport elderly parishioners! New members Always welcome! Children s Word: will be held on Oct. 8th. at the 10:30 AM Mass. Children s Word is a celebration of the liturgy for all children 10 and under. Children s Word meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We are looking for interested adults to help. 4 Financial Concerns: On average, our Sunday collections have dropped over $1, per week since the new fiscal year began on July 1st. We try to avoid too much talk about money at St. Anne s, but this trend, if left unchecked, will put St. Anne s over $50,000 in the red by the year s end. We depend on your generosity and support to meet our financial obligations and serve our community as fully as possible. Thank you. Our Lady of Fatima: In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima, Portugal, Bishop Alfred A. Schlert will consecrate the Diocese of Allentown to Our Lady of Fatima on Sunday, October 15th at the Noon Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine, Allentown. All clergy, religious, and lay faithful are invited to this historic event in the life of our local Church. Parish Breakfast: The Knights of Columbus will be hosting Parish Breakfast on October 8th, 8-12 noon in the Community Center. Adults, $6.50; children, $4. KIDS UNDER 5 yrs., EAT FREE! Autumnfest Weekend - October 21-22: We are looking to have 200 gift baskets available to raffle off. To make this happen, we need parishioners to assemble and donate a basket or gift bag valued at $25 or more, and bring it to the school or rectory by Oct. 16. Please let the rectory know if you are planning to donate a basket or bag. Join us Saturday, October 21 for Fr. Mongiello s Annual Evening of Fine Food and Music. Great food, fun, and musical performances by Fr. Mongiello and Friends in Faith. Reservation deadline is Oct. 16th, cost is $25 per person. Cemetery Sunday: Mass will be celebrated on the grounds at Holy Saviour Cemetery on Saturday, October 14th, beginning at 10 AM, in commemoration of Cemetery Sunday. In the event of inclement weather, please contact the Office at Holy Saviour Cemetery at ext. 3 for location. Stephen s Place Bingo Fundraiser: Sunday, October 22nd at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Doors open at 1:00 PM, tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Contact Sr. Virginia at for advanced tickets. Cash prizes, Basket Raffle, Food! All contributions support the mission of Stephen s Place. Page Four Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering (BES): The BES program is in desperate need of volunteers. This program has served homeless individuals for more than 18 years. This winter, the program is moving to a single site location. Overnight sheltering will be provided for up to 20+ women, and 60+ men during the four coldest months of the year - December through March. Location chosen is Christ UCC located at 75 Market St., Bethlehem. The sheltering program is looking for churches to make a commitment of volunteers, once or twice a month. Volunteers will provide meals, service and support of the overnight guests. Join us for The Family Fully Alive: 100 Years of Fatima on Sunday, October 22. The Office of Youth, Young Adult and Family Ministry invites you to come together as a family to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Our Lady s appearance at Fatima and learn about what Our Lady told the world at that time! Events will include a family holy hour, Fatima related crafts and activities, and a family meal (pasta, salad, rolls). The celebration will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Whitehall. The registration cost of $10/family includes dinner and activities for the entire family, and we encourage families with children of all ages to attend! York and the Helpers of God s Precious Infants at the prayer Pilgrimage for the unborn and all those involved in abortion. The pilgrimage on October 14th begins with Mass at 8:00 AM at Notre Dame Church of Bethlehem, and continues with the Rosary at the AWC abortion site located at 31 South Commerce Way in the Bethlehem Industrial Park. Please note: It is not necessary to go to the Abortion Center, you may remain in the church to pray the Rosary. 5 RCIA: Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic tradition? The RCIA process is a journey of faith: through the initial stages of asking and seeking, through beginning involvement with faithful Catholics, through Hearing the Gospel proclaimed on the Word of God, through study and discussions about Catholic teaching and way of life, through a growing desire to serve and love others and through the sacraments of initiation - baptism, confirmation, and eucharist. It is not too late to join us on Wednesday at 7 PM in the Convent. Come meet some faithful Catholics who love the Lord and would consider it a privilege to get to know you. 6 Page Six Habitat for Education in Support of St. Anne School We are inviting volunteers, 18 years old or older to spend three hours in support of St. Anne School to assist with cleaning, and sprucing up the building and grounds. WHO: Parishioners, Board Members, Parents, Alumni, Friends of St. Anne School WHEN: Saturday, October 14 th - 9:15 am 12:15 pm - Arrive at 9:15 am and receive your group assignment - Work will be completed by 12:15 pm immediately followed by a complimentary and quick Thank you lunch WHERE: Meet at the St. Anne School Main Entrance (Gym entrance) WHAT: Help with school cleaning and sprucing up! The more hands the better! School Parents: 3 hours will fulfill your Three for ME volunteer commitment.
