The St. Anne s Parish is a diverse Roman Catholic community, which proclaims the good news of Jesus Christ by teaching, witness, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Mass Schedule: Weekend: Saturday Vigil - 4:30 PM Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 noon Weekdays and Holy Days: as announced in bulletin Reconciliation: Saturday - 3:15 to 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:15 AM PARISH MEMBERSHIP: Active parish membership is both necessary and helpful to all involved when seeking sponsorship certificates, Marriage or Baptism preparations. Please call the rectory to register or to report address or phone number changes. HOSPITAL VISITS: Please have someone notify the rectory when you or a family member is hospitalized. BAPTISM: Parents must attend a Baptism Prep Class before the Baptism of their child. Classes are held on Sunday in the months of Feb., Apr., Jun., Aug., Oct., and Dec., and Baptisms are held once a month. Psalm - Lord, every nation on earth will adore you (Psalm 72). Second Reading - The Gentiles are copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6). Gospel The magi were overjoyed at seeing the star (Matthew 2:1-12). Winter Bible Study Schedule: In January, February and March, the Bible Study will convene on the THIRD Sunday only. Same time (6:30 PM), same place (Rectory Meeting Room). Just bring your Bible! Discuss & Pray Group: We meet the first and third Wednesday of every month from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the rectory meeting room. All are welcome! Helper s Pilgrimage: Please join the Helpers of God s Precious Infants at the prayer Pilgrimage for the unborn and all those involved in abortion. The pilgrimage on January 13th begins with Mass at 8:00 AM at Notre Dame Church of Bethlehem, and continues with the Rosary at the AWC abortion site located at 31 South Commerce Way in the Bethlehem Industrial Park. 3 Epiphany of the Lord Page Three GOD S PROMISE TO ALL PEOPLE Today Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and that they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God s fidelity to them, all people shall become God s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God s promise to Israel. St. Vincent de Paul Society: Meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the convent. Parishioners are welcome to visit a meeting! Members take part in the activities of their choice, including helpful visits to families and persons in need, or some of the services found below. All services need new helpers! Clothing Center: The Clothing Center has resumed service and is now accepting fall and winter clothing, footwear and linens. Food Project: Parishioners donate bags of non-perishable foods and toiletries in bins at the church entrances. Volunteers bring these to the convent where members sort and store it for the needy families we visit and for food pantries. Envelopes for money or gift cards are at the bins. Family Matters: This New Year offers your family a new beginning. Consider making a family commitment (AKA resolution). Make it simple, for all to be able to do. Put it on the refrigerator door. Pray for the grace to follow through. Pray For One Another. Monthly Mass for Anointing of the Holy Spirit: The next Mass for Anointing of the Holy Spirit will be January 9th, 7:00 PM at St. Anne s Church. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. 4 Feast of the Epiphany: Sunday, January 7th. The arrival of the three wise men! The journey of the Magi has ended they followed the star and brought gifts to the baby Jesus. The feast adds dimension to the Christmas understanding of the Incarnation. March For Life: St. Anne s Parish is sponsoring a bus day trip to the 2018 March for Life in Washington D.C. A 50-passenger motor coach will be leaving St. Anne s on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7:30 AM and leaving Washington at approximately 4:30 PM to return to Bethlehem. The cost of the trip is $25 per person. The Knights of Columbus of St. Anne s have kindly donated to reduce the cost per person. Please join us to show your support for the unborn! Iran or Saudi Arabia, Tarshish or the Isles come to mind, but Cologne, Germany would be a good choice. There the Shrine of the Three Kings has been the centerpiece of the city s cathedral since the fourth century. Today it is the largest reliquary in the world: a gilded and ornamented triple casket gleaming high above the altar. In the fourth century, the supposed relics of the wise men were taken from Constantinople to Milan, where they remained until the German Emperor with the unlikely name Frederick Barbarossa (Red Beard) gave them to the Archbishop of Cologne. Ever since, pilgrims have streamed into the city to honor the magi, the first of all pilgrims, and thus the heavenly patrons of all who have some holy wanderlust. This largest Gothic cathedral in Europe today was begun in the mid-1200s to house the relics. In medieval times, the relics in a city s possession were often the key to a sound international economy. The reliquary was last opened in 1864, and the remains of three men were indeed discovered. The cathedral is well worth a visit, with enormous twin spires forming the largest façade of any church in the world (it is the model for St. Patrick s in New York). Construction began in 1248 and ended in 1880, a six-hundred-year project. Today, it is a World Heritage Site, described by the U.N. as an exceptional work of human creative genius. This great treasure of our tradition suffered fourteen direct bomb hits in World War II but did not collapse. Charismatic Prayer Group - NEW - schedule: Weekly Meeting: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Charismatic Prayer Group will henceforth meet every Tuesday, evening at 6:30 PM. in the Rectory chapel of St. Anne Church. Charismatic Prayer Group will not meet on January 9th or 16th. Children s Word: will be held on Jan. 14th. at the 10:30 AM Mass. Children s Word is a celebration of the liturgy for all children 10 and under. Children s Word meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We are looking for interested adults to help.
